Listen, I'm not sure where to start because there's so much I want to cover regarding OLK9's Day Camp Program. First things first, Craig [Martin] is a Rockstar trainer. Period. Our very first interaction was great...his energy was wonderful...he did not disappoint! He was very methodical with his approach...explaining every step of the process...very engaging...constant updates of the Boyz progress...videos, photos...wait! The photos that I received were Ahhhhhhh-mazing, I mean impressive...only to learn that he's a photographer as well...but I digress. The Boyz are spoiled and I have no shame in stating this...*smile*. But they needed to learn manners. I have two large and very strong Standard Poodles - Mr. Brown and Max. They're extremely smart, pretty obedient in the house, but a huge challenge on walks...my poor dog walker. I wanted to be able to take them anywhere without the extended conversations of sit, stay, what are you doing? you know better... etc. At any rate, I'd been following OLK9 Maryland for some time online. I knew that training for two dogs was going to be a budget buster. Thankfully, I was able to take advantage of the "Black Friday" or "Cyber Monday" (can't remember which one it was). I cannot say enough about the great experience I had...the Boyz were happy to see Craig each day which was a HUGE relief for me. Yes, additional work/training on my part is required...to me that's a no brainer. As a responsible pet owner, I want to make sure that there is consistency and an expectation that my Boyz are well behaved and well mannered. Which means I have to do the work. Funny, as I was driving home from our final session, I was so tempted to take them on a short walk because I knew it would be enjoyable. But decided to wait until morning... I'm so excited to be able to have an enjoyable walk with these guys... less scolding and more bonding. Well worth the time and financial commitment. I wasted over $1,000 to unknowingly abuse my dog through Off Leash K9. I sought help because my dog was reactive toward other dogs, loud vehicles, and people. I was desperate to help my dog and myself and Off Leash K9 had good reviews. What these folks didn't tell me was that my dog's reactivity, what I thought was outright aggression, was actually fear - that she was scared of all of these things and trying to protect herself from them. So with the use of the e-collar (really just a shock collar let's be honest), I punished her every time she showed a fear response at Off Leash K-9's direction. This definitely changed her behavior, but rather than helping her feel more comfortable with the things that scared her, we instead punished her for being afraid and taught her to hide her fear responses. I wish I had looked at the science behind dog behavior, because I now know research shows that punishment through things like e-collars, buzz collars, spray bottles, etc. are incredibly counterproductive to changing dog behavior long term and they seriously traumatize the dog. I'm so very grateful to have met a Fear Free trainer who taught me about positive reinforcement. It has improved my relationship with my dog immensely and it has ultimately lead to the sustained behavior change I was looking for. The training is okayish, very shock collar dependent which can come in handy but has it's pros and cons. If I had known the full reliance on the use of a shock collar, I probably would have not signed my dog up for their training program. I got an aggressive package because my dog is pretty reactive, in terms of other dogs and people. But the package barely included any intensive training in regards to those specific issues. Instead the aggressive training package is very similar to their normal package, this one just includes two park sessions which are meant to desensitize a dog to it's environment. Temporarily does the job by shocking the dog in an attempt to make the dog indifferent to his/her environment but really it's like putting a band-aid on an otherwise bigger issue at hand. If you really want to mentally rewire your dog or rehabilitate him/her I would not recommend this place. If you're just looking to train a dog with very few behavioral issues - this place might just fit the bill. The training their program provides allows you to "maintain" your dog but in no way alters his/her deeply ingrained inclination to certain behaviorial issues/mannerisms. read more

This was our first time using a trainer for one of our pups. I wanted private lessons for our new puppy, Duke (Labrador retriever). I looked around at quite a few trainers online, but ultimately felt for the value, off leash K9 was the best choice. We signed up for the basic obedience classes with Patricia, which has given him and us a great foundation. Each time we arrived, Patricia was ready for us promptly, which we really appreciated. She is truly a dog lover, not to mention, she was very patient and efficient with helping us tackle some early behavioral issues with Duke. She gave us many suggestions and knowledge that without a doubt we will be able to use for years to come. We were so impressed with our package, that we have decided to continue training which will include e-collar training. We recently completed a 2 week board and train with trainer Davon and I must say, one of the best investments we've made for our young Pup Kobe. Our trainer was great in providing updates while our pup was away and also showcased a great knowledge for dog training in general. Davon provided a great foundation for training and after 2 weeks, we are bringing home seemingly a new pup. If we could, we'd give our trainer Davon a 10/10 for a job well done, can't wait to implement what he's learned at home! Cooper (my dog, 1.5 year old male golden retriever) and I had a great experience here! We did the 8 week advanced lessons and worked with Danny. Scheduling was easy, ample time to reschedule if something came up and always accessible via email. Each lesson had a different objective and Danny made sure that Cooper and I both understood. She was patient and explained things clearly and Cooper adored her and would practically throw himself out of the car as soon as we pulled up. She was always on time too and never hesitated to spend a few extra minutes if Cooper was struggling. This was a costly investment and I know that it can be intimidating, but I am so glad I did it! It's made owning Cooper so much easier and so much more fun, and we get compliments on his behavior all the time. He still has some things to work on and he still has his moments, but overall I know that after our classes, I have the tools in place to help him master them. I Highly Recommend the Board & Train program. I was skeptical at first, due to the cost and my Malamute, Kaiya, is very stubborn. I didn't think the program would work for her. At our evaluation, I went through a LONG list of issues we had with our 7 month old Alaskan Malamute. She is our 4th dog and proved to be our most difficult. I was embarrassed that we had to result to a trainer but I knew we needed help with her. Tabrina was patient and very understanding. She reassured me that Kaiya would benefit from the program and would come back as a new dog! I loved that Tabrina provided sooooo many videos and photos of our girl. She was even featured on the page a few times which made me feel so proud! I felt good about Tabrina taking care of our dog, because I was able to see that Kaiya was actually living with her, and not just caged the entire time. At our pick up - I was BLOWN AWAY. Kaiya was this reformed, obedient, eager to please, new and improved puppers. I didn't think she would make it to being off leashed trained, but BEHOLD, we are now that cool couple that has their dog 'heel' the entire time we're walking around at Lowes. I feel more confident as her owner and I can see that she is more confident as well. I'm so thankful we did this for our dog. We had a good experience using OLK9. Our 4 year old rescue husky was quite rambunctious when we got him and we decided on the 2 week board and train program. Pricey, but wow, the results were unbelievable. One caveat - don't expect miracles. You need to keep reinforcing the training after the dog comes home. read more

This was my first time going to Off leash training for my 7 month old puppy and I had an excellent experience. My puppy is now well behaved and listens to me perfectly. Everyone I know cannot believe how well trained my 7 month old puppy is now. My trainer was Timmy as he is well educated in all the basic and advanced skills my pup was learning and overall made the experience very joyful. We also had Alex as a trainer a few times and she was wonderful as well. She even helped cut my dogs nails to get him used to it. I would highly recommend signing your dog up for this training and asking for Timmy or Alex! This was an experience I would recommend every dog owner go through! read more

I have had two experiences with this place - one GREAT and one TERRIBLE. So unfortunately I'm split. Giving 3 stars though as my bad experience was really related to one employee. She cut every session short by 10-15 mins, then treated me extremely rudely when I showed up at the wrong appointment time (yes, I understand their no-show no-refund policy and I was not contesting that, just confused as to how I had the wrong appointment time and why she wasn't even willing to talk to me since I was late). The lessons were expensive, and ultimately was regretful I signed my second dog up for lessons through her :( However the first trainer (the owner I believe) was amazing and did a fabulous job with my first puppy (hence the reason I signed up the first dog)!! She was great and took time to make sure the dog understood the command before working with me to make sure I knew how to reinforce the training at home through the week. We had our 2 year old Pitbull trained for 2 weeks for the board and train. We got the military discount so it was $2500. Tucker came back super trained and listened very well, to the trainer. If I were to do this ever again I would do the training where you go with your dog and they train you how to train your dog. They taught us how to train our dog for about 2 hours by going over the commands he learned. Our dog was very in tune to the trainer and not our commands. The training he received was great and the communication with the owner was awesome as well. I would use them again but as I mentioned I would do classes with my dog instead of sending my dog on his own. read more

After reading on their website that in home training was an option, I called and paid for off leash training with an e-collar. It was only when scheduling that I found out not all services can be done at home and they would like as much family to be present as possible. It did not seem feasible but since I paid 900, I committed to try and make it work. I called several times but they could not locate my account or payment. I was told repeatedly that I needed to prove I paid. That was a big hurdle since I'd have to search credit card receipts. I finally found the proof and have the time and called to schedule today...this is now 2 years into this process. My money has apparently expired. It counts for nothing. During all of my calls there was no mention that my funds were expiring. I asked for the collar I paid for and they refused that too. They took 900.00 for doing nothing when all they had to do was offer credit and the services I truly paid for. They will respond that 2 years is too long but I tried calling multiple times in the first few months and then every few months....they just couldn't find me in their system! There are certainly more trustworthy places you can take your dogs for training. read more

Dora our great dane puppy started training the week we got her. Jen & Scott are great. Their facility is great. The program is great. Having a giant breed dog that is well trained is going to be a huge benefit. Of course if we could bring them home with us it would be even better. They make it seem easy when you're at training. They offer different packages and focus for training and have a two week boot camp program available too if you don't have time to work with your dog yourself post training. Our standard poodle was 7 months old when we decided to get her trained. It was an overwhelming process finding the right trainer. I made a lot of phone calls and visited the different training facilities but when I found out about Off leash, we knew this was what we were looking for. We were hesitant at first because of the price but Jen explained to us what they do and accommodated our schedule. Our puppy was getting stronger, difficult to walk because she barks at all people and cars. She easily pulls us on our walks which was not safe. She is doing great now, walks off leash and can stay in place on command until we release her. I've only done 2 sessions so far & there is a huge difference with my dog. My dog lacked impulse control & could never sit still. He knew the basic obedience commands but to get him to do a sit-stay or down-stay was practically impossible. Now that I have been shown how to properly use an eCollar, I can give a correction immediately from a distance. Now my too smart dog has learned that getting up before being released isn't worth it. I definitely recommend this facility, the staff is professional & nice. I'm glad that they don't talk to me like I am a clueless pet owner. We took our dog in for a two-week Board and Train program with Tammy and we are so pleased with the results! Tammy kept us updated very frequently via a Dropbox with photos and videos. We were able to see his progress and know that she was treating him with such love and care. I brought my 7 month old Mastiff to OLK9 because he was a bit rambunctious and in straight play mode. The problem with that was, He is almost as tall as I am (on all fours). Max needed to learn some manners so I opted for 2 wk boarder training. It is expensive but I had to get control before he started walking me...I needed results. OLK9 DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!! Admittedly, I was nervous to spend that kind of money because I had a bad experience with another company....I thought to myself" maybe my expectations was just too high". Well I now know,: they weren't!!!! What was detailed on their website, is what they gave me. NOTE: I have given OLK9 4 stars just based on videos of my baby. Today Max comes home! We took our 14 week old puppy here for their puppy training program, which is three full days supposedly devoted to training my puppy. I was under the impression it would be some one on one time, but who knows what she actually got. during the day while she was there, I was given several blurry photos of her in still poses I guess doing some things they were teaching, and one video of many dogs interacting (which did not even include my dog - or maybe it did, but I couldn't tell because the video was blurry) on the first day. When picking her up, none of the trainers offered to talk to me about what she had done during the day or how I could continue to reinforce what she had learned. I was referred back to the training videos they posted on Dropbox, which were pre-recorded segments on different topics. However, for example, on the last day it was a two minute video which gave a brief overview of one topic, but when picking her up on the last day, her report card stated she had trouble staying in the "place" command. No videos were provided on how to teach this and no one explained to me how to work on this problem. Anyway, $400 later, my puppy is no better off, and neither are we. Thankfully they use positive reinforcement methods for puppies, but we will not continue with them based on this experience, and I don't want to resort to using an E-collar on a puppy when there are other more appealing methods available. Thankfully she hasn't developed any serious problem behaviors that need that kind of training. Overall, would NOT recommend this place, given other options in the are. read more

I took my adopted one-year-old purebred German Shepard dog to this company for eight lessons combined with four basic obedience, two advanced obedience, and two aggressive. On my first day lesson with the trainer Craig, we tried to communicate with my dog "sit," and she did not understand the command at all (verbal and sign language). The ecollar truly works on my dog to correct her behavior. Over time, my dog quickly picks up. Craig and one of the owners, Jennifer, is very communicative through emails, texts, and in-person, although I haven't met Jennifer yet. I genuinely enjoy working with Craig, a very knowledgeable, patient, and friendly person. He is a very integrity person that speaks his mind that helps me to reframe my thoughts on how I approach the people with my dog in public, especially the people want to pet her. This place is amazing. It not only changed our lives but changed the quality of life for our dog, which is the most important thing. We have a gorgeous 40 pound rescue dog (we have had him since he was 3-weeks old) who was so friendly and energetic. Unfortunately, when we moved to the city, he developed severe leash aggression/reactivity (i.e. barking, lunging, jumping, growling, etc.). It had gotten so bad to the point where we would have to carry him through the lobby of our building every single time he went out. We tried everything... in home training, one-on-one training sessions, group classes both in home and at locations, treat based training... you name it, we tried it and spent thousands of dollars in the process. We were at a point of exhaustion and built up anxiety when trying to walk him for nearly a year. Off Leash was able to work with our dog for the 2 week board and train and he came back an entirely new dog. He was so happy to "work" and be outside, go on walks, etc. He is able to pass other dogs and greet other dogs with the best manners. I really love that during the board and train, the dogs live with their trainer and do everyday things with them, as well as wear a gps collar. Our trainer, Kim, also posted a lot of videos and photos every single day. It really put us at ease. This training may not be for everyone or every dog, but for us, it has improved our pup's quality of life and now he can go everywhere with us without any issues! I hope this post helps anyone looking for this type of training. I met with, called, emailed, read hundreds of posts/reviews from at least 15-20 other places, and I chose this place. This training has been amazing First, the website was informative but I called the office for more information and the staff answered and patiently answered my questions. Next my sessions started exactly on time. I had three different trainers for my dog. Each was patient, efficient and loving. Lastly my dog has beeen trained perfectly. Thought the training went well until I was told by the Animal Control that OLK9 said my dog should be put down. They didn't tell me there was a problem with the dog. Had no problem taking my money, but when I asked for a write up on the training Animal Control told me that OLK9 sent them a report that was the exact opposite of what the trainer had told me. read more

My one year old male pooch on had a week training with Craig a month ago. Before the training, he would run out of an opened door, bark at people and dogs during walks, and pull on the leash/harness. He is not listening a lot better. He doesn't pull the leash anymore and walks on heel. He sits when the door is opened and doesn't run out without me giving him permission. He does not jump on the furniture or nip at my kids feet anymore. He also stays on place in a relaxed position until he is released. If you don't have the time to train with your dog on your own everyday after taking the classes this not the training for you. I took first two set of classes then the two week class because I thought the dog would come home trained. It only works if you can continue to train them. My dogs problem are occurring when we not home, thought the training would fix that. Hasn't changed anything. Was not a success at all for us. read more

Considering how crazy and disobedient our Layla was, Off Leash K9 gave us another life with our dog. LOVE Skip and Off Leash Training! We rescued our Coco (pit bull mix) and she needed help with listening to commands. We love her, but it was frustrating when she wouldn't listen to us at all. We purchased the Basic Obedience Package and had lessons with Skip. He was great and he was part of the reason we chose Off Leash Training. You can tell he loves dogs and cares about training them properly. We didn't want a militaristic training, we wanted someone who could help us make our dog easier to live with and stop her from being a jerk. He also helped with training us, so we know how to reinforce the work that he did with Coco. The program works as long as you follow the instructions/homework that your trainer gives you. Our five month old French Bulldog/ Boston Terrier, Moose, mix spent two weeks with trainer Chris for the OLK9 board and train program and we couldn't be more pleased with the results. Moose was alwasy our sweet little guy but really needed help with basic obedience and even house breaking was something we continued to struggle with. Chris transformed our sassy, disobedient and destructive puppy into a real superstar!! Cannot say enough good things about this program and the trainers, but here are a few of my top highlights and notes from my experience: 1. Trainer Chris provided us with constant photo updates throughout the two weeks making the seperation much easier for us. We knew Moose was getting tons of love and felt comfortable and safe. 2. Picking Moose up and seeing all of his new tricks was really impressive. The training space is immaculately clean and professional looking. Chris walked us through everything he had done with Moose and told we would need to know for continuing and maintaining Moose's progress. This took about two hours- we felt really taken care of and left feeling even more confident. The trainers care deeply and want this program to keep working for you! 3. Moose showed Chris affection during our pick up debrief session- this really made me happy knowing how happy my pup was and I was glad to see the trainer bonded so well with him! More peace of mind and satisfaction with our decision to enroll Moose in the board and train program. 4. A review of the overall "after"- Moose has significantly improved. He could barely walk on a leash with my fiance and I (causing havoc in our apartment lobby with other dogs or annoying other residents due to our inability to maintain him on a leash and also endangering himself and stressing us out as we tried to walk him at parks and throughout DC) and walking him was never enjoyable. This has gone away and now he is so polite and mannerly to walk with!! This by far has been the most AMAZING aspect of his transformation. It was our goal to see Moose become more managable and this has absolutely been achieved. Chris took care of his potty training issue with ease and this has been a huge life saver. Moose listens when we say "off" (the command used for "no") now and he has ceased all chewing and destructiveness in our house. Major bonus!! 5. Two days post training session, Moose is not exactly 100% accurate at all times- he is only a 5 month old puppy after all- and has little "oops" moments where he completes a command half way or slightly incorectly. HOWEVER, we can clearly see that his little puppy brain gets it and he is trying really hard and that is absolutely fantastic to see as a dog owner. The "Aha moment" is there in our Moose thanks to Chris and now we are running with it! That being said, we are just floored with his transformation and feel 100% empowered and prepared to keep his training going on at home. Chris provided us with the information and instructin we needed to do this and answered all of our questions. He has been super helpful with emailing to answer questions or reassure us when needed and I truly appreciate all of his continued support and genuine concern! FINAL NOTES ON MY EXPERIENCE: This program is vigorous and intensive. In two weeks my pup has completely transformed and it this was obvious the minute we picked Moose up. Worth absolutely every dollar!! YOU WILL GET RESULTS. I really feel that with Moose's new oedience I will now be able to build a better relationship with him. As an owner, I feel that I can now get the most out of my relationship with Moose (less time scolding, less time feeling frustrated, more time enjoying him and doing fun activites without stress!!!) LASTLY, I would like to recommend this program to anyone interested in improving the obedience and managbility of their dogs. I really think this program would be amazing for bigger breeds too for those reading with larger pets in mind. While the OLK training confirms the program works for any breed, any age, any size (and I can attest it does- my little guy is only 25 pounds!) I can imagine it would be truly amazing for bigger dogs. The training facility is equipped with lots of large obstacle pieces and things to jump on to. I grew up with Pitbulls and Boxers and was thinking that my childhood dogs (never trained professionally, good dogs but total goofballs) could have really benefited from some time with Chris! Our 5 month old golden puppy completed the 2 week board and train with Tabrina a couple of weeks ago. Ever since our pup has been home it has been such a game changer. He responds beautifully to the commands. And overall he is such a well behaved pup now. We got everything out of the board and train that we were hoping for. I wanted the trainer to teach my dog the skills and then our family would just have to reinforce the training once he came home. We do work with him daily, but that has been easy to manage because he already knows the commands and skills. Tabrina was great with our dog and took him in for the 2 weeks like he was her own. By far the best trainer you can find in this area...PERIOD!!! If I don't know if I could put a number on the amount of times I have referred them to anyone I know, strangers I met with dogs etc, if I did it would be in the hundreds.
