If you can imagine on a Saturday night April 5,2014 I broke my front tooth in half just above my gum line. I freaked out and went straight to the internet to search for a dentist that could see me that night. But It was getting so late I felt bad to even call but I had gotten a phone call from Dr. Rutley about 10pm that night and he asked me to come in first thing on Sunday morning , I must have talked to him from 10pm til about midnight of and on cause I had questions about Insurance, and was just so upset that this was happening to me, but he said I would be ok, so I drove to office, spent 2 hours in car early for my appt. I wanted it fixed. He took xrays and explained what the process was going to be from fixing tooth to insurance. I hate and so scared of needles but it was like an angel sitting doing the work cause I didn't feel anything. I was just more nervous than in any pain(which was none)..He then gave me a book with about 1000 movie names and asked which ones I wanted to see while he was doing the work. I had head sets on and flat screen on ceiling and I focused on the movie rather than what he was doing.. I trusted him and by the time I knew it he was done he gave me a mirror and OMG my temporary looks so good matched perfect. Now Its May 9,2014 and I'm just waiting on my dental company to decide what amount they are going to pay cause it just so happened that this was consider as a emergency visit on a Sunday and my insurance company doesn't like me to go out of network but I couldn't find a dentist that was open to see me right away, so Dr. Rutley's office staff is working with the claim and getting services approved. His office staff is so great !!!! But to this day I still have my temporary in and have had NO problems. I am just waiting so I can pay my part once insurance payments are applied to my bill and then get my crown. Never the less I am changing insurance companies and making sure that he is in the coverage plan, because I only want him to fix ANY AND ALL of my teeth from now on. Thank you from bottom of my heart, Dawn Wise read more

I had intense pain from an abscess and infected, dying nerves that had formed under an inlay in one of my molars. It was by far the worst pain I have ever experienced. I called my regular dentist, and despite it being a medical emergency and them having placed the inlay just a week prior, they said they wouldn't be able to get me in for a few days. The advice nurse at Kaiser told me my symptoms were very serious and that I needed to be seen immediately. Unfortunately, it was a Saturday evening, and all the local dentists who claimed to be 'on call for emergencies' never even picked up the phone. I expanded my search and found Dentistry of Del Mar. They told me to come in right away, and they worked late into the evening taking care of me. They even put on a movie for me, which was a nice distraction while they worked on my tooth. The staff here are awesome, super friendly, and great to chat with, and the beach-themed décor is calming. If this place wasn't around, I would have been in a very, very bad spot. I will never go back to my regular dentist and will be trying to update my insurance so I can become a regular patient here. read more

I would recommend Dr. Mark to those seeking emergency dental services on the weekend. After having excruciating tooth pal I was desperatly serking dental sttention from any dentist in San Diego but Not one dentist returned my franctic calls during their off duty hours. Dr. Was the only dentist who returned my call in 5 minutes. He gave me an appointment within 30 minites after that. At his office Dr Mark quckly diagoesed my pain ( which was due to poor quality of work from past dentist). Dr. Mark took care of me from removing the old bridge and crown, cleanind the absess in the painful crown, putting new roots, vuilding up a new post and putting on a temporary crown until the new arrives. He spent hours cleaning out the old bacteria from my hurting crown until I did not have excruciating pain anymore. I am gratefil that he serves patients with emergency dental needs during non business hours. A sincere shout out to Dr. Mark' s expertise and availabily. Jack Martinez read more

First let me say that I live in Dallas, Texas. I used to see Dr. Rutley years ago when I was based in San Diego and he was fantastic. Recently, I made the decision to have some cosmetic dentistry done but wanted someone I really trusted and that had a ton of experience. After searching for over a year and not finding anyone here in Dallas that I felt comfortable with (including my local dentist that I used for cleanings), I flew out to San Diego for a consultation with Dr. Rutley. After talking with him and his staff, I immediately made the decision to move forward with Dentistry of Del Mar. They were extremely accommodating with regards to my schedule and couldn't have been more professional and on the ball. I couldn't be happier with the work and highly recommend Dr. Rutley and his fantastic staff. They are so good, I am trying to figure out how to include more frequent visits to San Diego for cleanings etc and abandoning my local dentist here in Dallas altogether! read more

I have had alot of dental work done over my 60 years, all over this country. out of 11 dentist ive been to there are only 2 that i would recommend to anyone, Dr Mark Rutley and his staff are 1 of those 2. For over 4 yrs now they have made me feel like family, it is a casual comfortable and compassionate experience. Scheduling is flexible, Dr Rutley will even make every effort to make emergency sessions possible. The time I spend there just seems to flow smoothly, having Dr Rutley take the time to explain everything showing the details of whats going on is great and also honest about what needs to be done, always some humor to keep it all a light experience and the movie selection is cool to if want that, all of the procedures are professional in my experience and i always leave a visit better than when i went in, it is always a little better day after a visit to the Dentistry of Del Mar crew. Thank you all for being there read more

Dr Mark Rutley is a life saver. I had a dental emergency late Saturday evening. I travel out of town Monday through Friday and did not know what I was going to do. I called the emergency number at my dentist with no response. My wife found Dr Mark Rutley on google, she made a call, and the Dr. called back. Dr. Rutley met me at his office at 10 am Sunday morning. Knowing that I was flying out of town, he completed 3 visits in one. Dr. Rutley spent 5 hours on a Sunday to make sure that I could fly out Monday. Also, during my visit, Dr. Rutley kept me updated through the entire process with X-rays and explanations. He made sure that I understood everything that was going on. I live in Orange County, but I will make the drive to Del Mar to my new dentist Dr. Mark Rutley. Thanks Doctor! read more

Recently I required an emergency root canal procedure. I hadn't slept the previous night very well at all and the pain was becoming utterly unbearable. Dr. Mark Rutley agreed to see me at short notice late on a Saturday evening. He was able to diagnose the issue over the telephone. I spent four hours being treated by Dr. Rutley on the Saturday evening for the root canal and then 20 minutes the following day to have the crown fitted, which fit perfectly first go. As an Australian tourist experiencing chronic pain it was a blessing to find Dr. Rutley who has allowed me the opportunity to continue with my travels now completely free of pain. read more

If you would like your dentist to speak to you in a condescending, offensive manner, then go see Dr. Rutley. He has the worst bedside manner toward his patients and he is disrespectful to his employees. I would never go back to him, two out of my three visits were nothing short of atrocious. His hygienists are quite lovely, yet they do all the cleaning work and he gets all the credit. The only interactions I have had with him have been unpleasant and nearly traumatic. He is gruff, abrasive, and rude. Find yourself a better dentist. Trust me! This is the only negative post I have ever written on yelp. Run like the wind away from this man. read more

I was lucky enough to find Dr. Rutley a few weeks ago when I was in extreme pain I called on a Thursday night he returned my call minutes later and saw me first thing Friday morning. He was able to find out that the cause of my pain was from my previous dentist who over a year ago had incorrectly placed a crown, a dentist I had been to bc of the pain weeks prior who gave me antibiotics bc he said the pain was from a sinus infection, when the pain increased he said I needed a route canal!. Thank you Dr. Rutley for finding the true cause of my pain and fixing my crown, I am pain free!. I am so thankful for you and your sweet team. read more

I had not been to a dentist in years due to a bad dental experience, and was reluctant to go back. My family just had our dental checkup with Dr. Mark Rutley today, our family dentist since 2008. When we moved overseas to the Middle East in 2012, we always include a dental checkup with Dr. Mark Rutley during our twice yearly vacation to San Diego! Also, Dr. Rutley's office staff are always friendly and helpful. Alexis, the dental hygienist, is amazing! She is so gentle while taking X-rays and with the dental cleaning that I have never experienced any pain while in her care. read more

My husband and I are new in the area and he saw Dr. Rutley on an emergency basis, having not previously been a patient. He took him in immediately and resolved the problem. Then I decided to try him for an annual check up. He discovered a number of things my last dentist had let slide and did a wonderful job. My teeth have never looked this good. He is an artist!
