Home Depot sources their deliveries and pick ups by an external contractor (The Carr Group). This…read moregroup arrived promptly on time to haul away an old applicance; however, had to move it to the curb because their 'truck was full'. This was at 0900 hrs in the morning. They indicated they would be back later to pick it up. They did not. When contacting the HomeDepot customer service via text, they offered that it can be picked up over 4 days later! and that the company only delivers certain days. What does not make sense is, why did they not have space for a haul away (that's their job); and why did they not come back when they said they would. Home Depot needs to reconsider whom they source their deliveries with. I, for one, will not purchase another appliance for delivery unless they manage the delivery themselves; not subcontracts. As an aside, the one of the delivery persons asked me if I were Fillipino (which is quite inappropriate); especially given I'm quite clearly a very pale Caucasian.

Donovan's…read moreHardware has been a staple in the community for years, serving the good people of Gananoque not just hardware but also nick-knacks and decorations for the home, yard, cottage, what have you. As soon as you enter, you're faced with what amounts to organized chaos. The family-run business may seem to be completely asunder, but a few trips there and you get to know where everything is. If you can't find what you're looking for, just ask any of the staff. I once owned an old stove-top percolating coffee maker and the glass stopper at the top broke. Not knowing where to start looking for something like this, I went to Donovan's. Once I described the item, the only questions I was asked were "How many?" and "What colour?" Yeah, they've pretty much got everything.

But the store itself intrigued us; it's stocked not just with hardware but a huge selection of "stuff" for yard and home along with providing advice on everything from plumbing to screen repairs. It just has to be a really popular place for residents of Gananoque to shop, and since it dates back to 1872 and is operated by the fifth generation Donevan family we think that's definitely the case. It's right on King Street in the heart of Gananoque, a cute Canadian town that we enjoyed visiting. You won't go wrong to drop by here if you're in the neighborhood.
