Life changing. After suffering 7+ years with post concussion syndrome, and seeing every neurology practice in San Diego county with repeating failed and frustrating attempts, I had given up hope that I'd ever be back to any semblance of a normal life. I lived every day with PCS symptoms to strong varying degrees and never a minute of relief - ever. With the lack of tangible concussion care from over eight neurologists in the entirety of San Diego county, I also became depressed and accepted I'd be ridden to my home and some days/weeks in bed, never able to enjoy activities prior to my accident or even have any quality of life. I couldn't see friends or family, drive or be a passenger in a car for longer than 20 minutes, grocery shop, exercise, or just go outside if the weather wasn't just right. Some days I could barely hold a conversation. I had debilitating symptoms to many degrees for years. One day I happened upon Oculus on social media and something inside me told me to contact them. From just the first call alone with Sydney scheduling my first appointment for an assessment, I felt like this place actually understood PCS. When I went in to be assessed by Dr. B and Dr. T, I left crying tears of joy. It was the first time in years that I actually felt "seen" and had semblance of hope. Just from how they assessed my full symptoms, the questions they were asking, information they were able to provide me on the spot - that no other neurologist was able to answer - I knew this was where I needed care. They were even able to provide me tangible data for my assessment a few days later that answered what couldn't be answered for years. Dr. B developed a personal, targeted treatment plan for me based of my results. We started treatment and I noticed significant improvements within just two weeks. Heck, I was able to go in an elevator for the first time in years without feeling multiple symptoms! We continued treatment and I am SO THANKFUL to share that I no longer have any symptoms. Dr. B truly gave me my life back. I am beyond grateful every morning that I found Oculus and gave my health "one last chance". I am now living my best life, exercising, working, hanging out with friends and family, heck even able to go the grocery store without issues, thanks to Dr. B. Not only that, but I was also able to start a family and gave birth to my first child this year. None of this could have been possible without Dr. B, and I am forever grateful for the care and modern treatment from Oculus. Please, if you have any concussion or migraine related issues, call Oculus. You will be given a second chance at life. read more

We started going to Oculus because my young daughter was experiencing headaches and dizziness. Her headaches started after an accident on the playground which resulted in her getting a concussion. After learning from her doctor that there wasn't much we can do post-concussion, but just wait it out, we kind of sat around waiting for the lingering headaches and dizziness to stop. But they stayed for almost a year. In this time she also hit her head again (which I later learned from Dr B may have been due to her balance and coordination being off from the concussion a year ago). After spending many anxious nights googling things to do to help my daughter feel better, I came across Oculus Brain Centers. I was so happy! I cried because seeing your kid in pain and not being able to help them is a horrible feeling. So thinking there could be something to help her made me feel a lot better about the situation. Right from the start, my daughter loved going in for her checkups! Dr B is so nice and helpful, and Dr T is very funny. Those were her words. Haha. It didn't feel like a scary doctors visit for her. It was fun! She got to play games and practice her coordination with all the fun tools Dr B has for kids. The office is very clean and welcoming. The front office secretary, Sydney, is super sweet and accommodating when it came to making our weekly appointments. They also have two cute dogs that hang out in the office. My daughter couldn't wait to be done with her exercises so she could pet them. My daughter graduated from their concussion protocol last month and she's been feeling great ever since! She's back to all her sports and activities without the lasting headaches and dizziness she was getting last year. I am forever grateful for everyone at Oculus for helping my baby feel better! Thank you!! read more

I have been suffering from chronic headaches and migraines for the passed 20 years. in that time, I've experienced some variation of debilitating head pain at least 200 days out of the year, no joke. The pain is always paired with neck pain, sometimes intense nausea or vomiting and unfortunately, depression. When my chronic pain began, the inability to fall asleep easily at night also became an issue (which has also fed depression). Then, after being hit by a drunk driver several years ago, I experienced very painful tailbone sensitivity. ITS BEEN ALOT! I have never once found a doctor who could help me. they just wanted to throw drugs at me and send me on my way. So frustrating! I have been receiving care with Oculus twice a week for at least a month now and I am pretty mind blown with the progress I am experiencing. I haven't had a single migraine, the headaches I've experienced have been minimal (and induced by specific external triggers like stress and doing hard labor in the hot sun). And just yesterday it hit me, I've been falling asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow for weeks and my tailbone pain is GONE! Absolutely gone! This is a huge deal to me! I've never had anyone actually help me in the way I needed. I sought out help and solutions for years. I felt defeated. I am beyond pleased (and pleasantly surprised) with the progress we've made. My quality of life has been trash in many ways for so long with this grab bag of pain, depression and the inability to just fall asleep. At this moment, I feel like a fully functional human...I could cry over the gratitude I feel for that. I pray that I'm cured forever because this is wonderful...and I've suffered enough. read more

I had been struggling with a number of ailments or conditions for years for which I was being treated by my physician with medications. These never got to the actual cause of my ailments and truthfully one led to another so new medications were added over time. I was living in a bit of despair, never seeing improvement, only management. I was subconsciously resigned that this would be my life. I kept a happy face but was secretly defeated inside. And then I accompanied my daughter to an appointment at Oculus Brain Center in San Diego where I met Dr Stephanie Barbakoff. Her manner was so welcoming and positive. She exuded capability and knowledge and an excitement to share it. "I care" was written in her smile. I was so happy when she accepted me as a patient. I knew in my heart that she was worthy of my trust and that we could be good partners on my wellness journey. Her guidance is helping me to know myself better, to understand my conditions and what I can do to improve them. I want to do good for me...and I want to do good for her. That desire keeps me on the path she has laid out. I feel, for the first time, that there is light at the end of the tunnel, that I am not in this alone and that there is life to be lived in a better state of health in my future. I do not fear being a name on a folder in her file cabinet. I know that she sees me, that she knows me and what I need for success and that she will not abandon me until my goals are met. I cannot recommend her more highly. read more

I had been feeling dizzy and unbalanced for about a year. Going to several doctors saying I was normal and healthy, or suggesting medication for my condition they didn't know (Just to try). Decided to find some relief from my discomfort and went to the San Diego Chiropractic Doctors in La Mesa and one of the chiropractors referred me to the Oculus Brain Center, suggesting they would be able to help relieve or solve my condition. There I met Dr. Barbakoff and Dr. Terrano. Both very friendly and helpful. They've helped me with my condition, always answering my questions and concerns in a professional (well understood) and warm manner. They've helped me heal and given me my confidence back. Their office is always welcoming. I would feel dizzy and unbalanced every day. Now I have more normal days where I don't have any symptoms. You have to trust in the therapies and can't give up because you believe they're not working. It's better than taking expensive medicine that may or may not work or a possible surgery. I would suggest their practice to anyone first before taking risky procedures. It's definitely worth it. All I can say is "Thank You" for helping me! read more

In Fall of 2019 I suffered sudden onset hearing loss which set my entire body into a free fall. I spent months dealing with all kinds of testing and drs to get to the root cause. But I wasn't better and needed a plan to take control of my life back. After researching and learning on the internet, I came across Occulus. One simple call and Dr. B spent so much time listening to me. I did the initial testing with them and was not well enough to drive to their office. During that time, Dr B kept calling me. Imagine that. Someone who cared enough to call me to make sure I was getting the proper care. I immediately saw results when I started working with them weekly and kept going until Covid. Dr B. still did check ins with me while we were in lockdown and I had exercises to do at home. Months later, I still had some residual symptoms of something and Dr. B put me on a toxin cleansing program. I have never felt better. Dr. B and Dr. T are what healthcare is all about. They listen, care and follow up. I am so thankful for them and their dedication to their patients. read more

About a year ago, we were told my 15 year old daughter had POTS, a type of dysautonomia. After months of trial and error with no real progress, I started searching for other options. Research lead me to functional neurology and more specifically Oculus Brain Centers. From the first conversation on the phone, we felt comfortable. After my daughter's initial in office evaluation, we knew she was at the right place. It was the first appointment in months where she didn't walk back to the car and cry. Instead of being the "perplexing" patient, she finally felt heard and validated. She was encouraged that her body systems could be retrained. In the 2 months since evaluation, the stabbing chest pain she was having daily is drastically reduced and tingling arms/legs are very rare now. The episodes of lightheadedness and temporary loss of vision have reduced significantly as well. Thank you Dr. Terrano and Dr. Barbakoff, for your understanding, sharing knowledge, and most importantly, for giving my daughter HOPE that she will be able to regain her life back. read more

The oculus brain center team has been such a valuable resource to me throughout my healing journey. Both Dr.B & Dr.T are incredibly intelligent, understanding and dedicated. Sydney at the front desk is personable, kind and feels like a good friend. I found them during a point in my life where I was really sick, uncomfortable, and scared and without hesitation they knew and helped me understand what was going on with my body (which was something 3 ER drs, 3 internal medicine drs, & 1 integrative MD couldn't do). As a patient & nursing student it was really important for me to learn the details of what happens in our bodies and they have been an extraordinary teacher and mentor throughout my time with oculus. From the first appointment with them I felt comfortable, safe and well cared for. These two have quite honestly changed the trajectory of my life and career. For that, I can't thank them enough, and to anyone considering seeking their help you won't be disappointed. Forever grateful for these amazing people! read more

I came to Oculus Brain Centers after sustaining my 5th concussion and receiving a Post Concussion Syndrome diagnosis. I had tried medications and my neurologist was recommending a treatment plan that just didn't feel right for me. I was in such a hard place, I could hardly function. I was having daily migraines, panic attacks, mental health flares, brain fog, the list goes on and on. I went through the week long intensive and am so grateful for everything Dr. T and Dr. B have done for me. After the intensive, I wasn't 100% better but I could finally function again and had a plan forward. I've continued seeing them over the past 6 months as we've worked through remaining symptoms and have made tremendous progress. Not only is my day to day very manageable now, but I'm finally able to get back to activities I love and things beyond just trying to survive. Can't recommend Dr. B and Dr. T enough! They truly care and will work to find the right treatment plan for you. read more

I have suffered with migraines for the past 30 years. I've tried several medications to help with the pain but this past year my migraines became much more frequent (especially before and during my cycle) and I hated taking the medication so often. I found Oculus online while looking for a practitioner that administers the Dutch test (hormone test). To my surprise, I found out that they specialize in migraines. After my initial exam I was skeptical that anything except medication would be able to help with my migraines, but I was willing to try anything. I started my treatment plan and saw Dr. Terrano twice a week for about a month, and to my complete amazement, my monthly cycle came and went and I had zero migraines! I am so thankful to have found Oculus Brain Center. Dr. Terrano and Dr. Barbakoff have been so great to me. They have listened, and put me at ease, and made me realize that there are options beyond just taking a pill. read more

My daughter sustained a concussion and struggled with symptoms well beyond the 10-14 days that my google research (lol) suggested it would take to recover. We had an assessment and consultation with Oculus Brain Center staff. They were friendly and knowledgeable. Provided a wealth of information and a specific plan for treatment. She completed the week-long intensive and by Thursday she was able to complete a mild/moderate workout. The following week, she was able to complete more intensive workouts without symptoms. The ongoing assessments and treatment has significantly improved symptoms as well as her athletic performance. She was recently able to participate in a three day University of Oregon softball camp. So grateful for their support especially as the recruiting window opens for her. Thank you so much!! read more

I started seeing dr B and dr T around July 2023 for chronic migraines. At that time I was struggling with daily pain and I was struggling at work. Their receptionist Sydney was very warm And welcoming and I loved how their office was decorated, making it homey. I loved how I depth they went at the first appointment as they ran various tests, which took an hour, testing my balance, gait, eye movement, range of motion etc. I went in 3x week to start with, then 2x week and eventually 1x week. I enjoyed my experience with Dr T and Dr B. Both of them are very knowledgeable and started me on the path to improve my pain and quality of life!!!! I've also good other friends who've suffered from chronic migraines about this center. I'd definitely recommend them more! read more

I found Oculus Brain Centers when I was looking for relief from my migraines and constant dizziness/ foggy feeling I was having. I have tried my primary care doctor (prescribed medication that made me feel worse and left me in a daze for days after taking), acupuncture, massages with little to no relief. I came in for an assessment and decided to continue on with the treatment plan they recommended. I'm only a few weeks in to the treatment plan and have not had a migraine since starting. My vertigo and brain fog got better with each visit and is now gone. I couldn't be happier with the success that I've seen with the treatment they have provided. I would definitely recommend anyone looking for relief from migraines and headaches to give them a shot. read more

Dr. B and Dr. T are an amazing team. I found them after searching for someone to help my teenager who was having convulsions while exercising and dancing and her heart rate was going high and low within a second. Dr. B was able to diagnose her, start a treatment and explain what her future would look like. She is not cured and never will be but she has the tools to manage more effectively and has a high tolerance after the intensive. This is the great office to help give accurate information not just fluff. I would recommend them to anyone who needs their specialized care. They worked with me on a plan that fit our financial needs while holding my daughter responsible for her own care and what she could do at home to help herself. read more

I've known Dr. B for over 3 years and I can honestly say she changed my life. I suffered severely from migraines for 10 plus years without any solutions from my primary care physician. She was recommended to me and I gave her a try because I had nothing else left. Dr. B say with me and actually listened to everything I said and felt. She cared about my pain level, mental, emotional and physical health. She made me feel seen and heard. I had to go on disability for 3 months and she was on top of all the paperwork I needed and would respond to me right away. Since I met her I have cut my pain and migraines by over half. I am a functioning person and it has everything to do with Dr. B! I can't recommend her enough! read more

I had a concussion I didn't even know about. After nice and caring treatment from them I was so surprised with how much better I was feeling. They took care of problems I didn't even know I had. I wake up feeling better, I preform better in my high school varsity sports, and I referred my girlfriend who got her back and jaw problems fixed. Even though I am feeling 100 percent physically, I will continue to go get treatment because the vibes in the office are so amazing. Truly lovely people and I always feel better physically and mentality after some very personalized treatment and therapy. Thank you for everything that you do. I have suffered from chronic tension headaches for over 20 years. Within two visits my headaches began to subside. The Drs are extremely knowledgeable! It's been a little over 3 months of working with the Drs, I have not heard any headaches!!!! In addition to their brilliance, the entire staff are friendly and welcoming. HIGHLY RECOMMEND read more

The doctors at OBC are better than the rest. I have suffered from migraines for as long as I can remember, trying different therapies and medications, with no luck. Since starting my treatment at Oculus 6 weeks ago I continuously keep progressing the amount of time between headaches and the severity of them. I do not remember the last time I went this long without taking Excedrin. OCB has changed my life and helped me improve in such a short time, I did not think it was possible!! read more
