This means you do not hear any cars, you do not see people walking by, there is no noise, ad the park hardly ever gets crowded because of this. Is this a plus or what! Besides this the park is FREE. The grounds are VERY WELL kept, there is never garbage around, the grass is beautiful, and the best is the park is on the water! What parks around here sit on the bay with the view of boats and the bay? The bathrooms are open, basketballs, tennis, softball, kids play area, shuffle board, and the park even has the equipment to lend you. There are people fishing in the far end which is nice to watch.

I work near the park and since Covid hit I've been attending nightly AA meetings here with my dad until more in person meetings open up. I've also bought my son here to play. The park has many options, a small nature trail and lake to walk on. I've found my first and only geocache so far here. Two playground sessions, a basketball and handball court. For my first visit during my lunch break today because I'm going later for a meeting I went into the office to drop off letters to Santa that my son and my nephew wrote. There's an ice skating rink as well. It's a pretty decent sized park. If you want a park with many options this is one to check out.

I don't use them but there are plenty of sporting areas to use. Tennis, soccer, baseball and I believe there are even indoor basketball courts. There's a playground for the kids as well as an area to BBQ with tables and benches as well as grills already there. There's also a lake here and a trail that goes not quite around the lake or the park but it's a decent trail. I always see folks fishing here as well.

Though for whatever reason, I spent all summer walking over to Ridder's Pond and never once left my Yelp mark. I don't know why. Maybe it was the quiet calmness of the area that left me wanting to check out from social media. Perhaps the picnic tables and benches were better used to gaze into the blue skies and (somewhat) murky water in front of me. Or possibly it was a childhood connection (or reconnection) to this tiny park as it was somewhere I used to spend a lot of time as a lad galavanting in the tiny playground area. Whatever it was, as I sat at Ridder's Pond yesterday at the end of the summer (a few more calendar weeks left technically), it just felt right to write a little ode (and take a few pics) to this calming spot. I don't expect you to know Ridder's Pond. It's honestly nothing special. Like I mentioned, the water isn't necessarily clean. The bathrooms are rather outdated. Oh and the geese reign strongly at certain points of the warmer months so be wary of them (and their droppings). But despite all of this, there are truly blissful moments that can be found sitting and peering out at the ripples of water. The path around the pond works well for exercising and you can even fish or catch a glimpse of some wildlife (turtles, bunnies, an occasional hawk feeding). No matter your reason for coming, it'll be a relaxing vibe that always wins out over anything else (even the geese). Overall, Ridder's Pond is a small local spot that helps in giving you a little nature in all the right ways. It's far from perfect, and you may end up with a little goose souvenir on your shoe if you're not careful, but the view makes it worth the negatives. These walks and hangouts are something I'll miss once the weather starts to take a turn towards cold, but I know when Spring finally rolls around again, I plan on continuing to disconnect and leave the Check-Ins to someone else. I'll enjoy the view instead.

just a heads up this review is mostly about the dog park in the back of the park. since moving to…read morelong island a few years ago my partner and i were looking for a local spot to take our corgi puppy and this one was the closest. it ended up being a pretty solid choice. they've made some updates recently like expanding the synthetic turf in the big dog area which is great. the rest of the park still has a mix of sand and gravel on both the small and big dog sides which is fine but gets a little dusty sometimes. on hot summer days there is a little bit of shade which helps but not a whole lot so definitely bring your own water. the fountains are there but they're not super reliable. they've worked on and off over the past few years but lately they've been mostly off. outside of the dog park you can tell the community is really into the tennis and pickleball courts. the parking lot was also recently redone so no more giant dips or weird bumps which is super nice. overall it's a good dog park. not perfect but glad it's nearby.
