Love this place. A co-worker whose wife works here recommended it when I was complaining about my current dentist office being terrible with mean ladies who seemed to take pleasure in hurting me... I came here and it was like going to my small home-town dentist office where they knew my name, my parents, and remembered a lot of details about my life at every visit. It is located near the beachfront right off the interstate and near the Virginia Beach Convention Center. It has ample parking in the attached lot though it is a smaller parking lot with about 8 or so spaces - it never seems to be so over crowded that I can't find any parking... it has been close once or twice though... The inside is very very clean with new equipment and cute beach-y furniture and wall decor - surf boards and seashells and such. They sell Sonicare toothbrushes and products and do oral surgeries and tooth whitening here. I have never needed more than a very minor filling that did not require numbing and the doctor (Dr. Heffelfinger mentioned below) has an excellent bedside manner who decided to not numb me and we went very slowly to see if I even needed it for such a superficial filling. It turned out I didn't so he spared me the stress and pain of that for which I greatly appreciated it. Means I didn't drool on myself all night needlessly. Plus he personally called the next day to check on me - something I believe they do with all patients who had a procedure done and which is a real personal touch that you don't find most places anymore. I've had a few hygienists since coming here over the last two years but my favorite was only there temporarily and left - my current - Kimberly - is very nice and works with me because I am a bleeder with sensitive gums and A LOT of plaque build-up every time no matter how much I floss or how expensive my toothbrush is.... she seems to go out of her way not to hurt me and to try to minimize the dreadful experience. Which is nice. She also asks about my life and makes an effort to remember the details. My dentist - Dr. Heffelfinger is a very nice younger doctor with a friendly and funny personality - who happens to have gone to JMU - my alma mater - which makes us instant best friends and means he is automatically a great American to me.... plus he's pretty damn cute so it could be much worse. I still don't really enjoy coming to the dentist - but it's much better than ANY previous experiences I've had and especially in the Virginia Beach area. if you are looking for the small-town dentist feel where they remember your name and some family details every time you go in and don't farm you in and out like cattle, come here. You won't regret it. read more

I absolutely love this dentistry because of the excellent service you receive from the minute you step foot in their office. They go above and beyond taking care of the patients. Dr Heffelfinger did not hesitate at all when I called him after hours to evaluate a mouth injury my son had, we were in his office by 9:00 pm to solve the issue. This is my 3rd check-in, whoops, my bad. But I can honestly say that we happened onto this place 8 years ago and love these people totally! When we first moved here I took my daughter to a pediatric dentist only for a scared little girl become verbally abused by the dentist. I told that dentist that what he did was unnecessary and that we wouldn't be back, and to pray to His God that I wasn't going to sue him for verbal abuse and walked out! Funny thing, I can't remember where that happened at, but the incident I definitely remember! If my husband had heard him, the dentist would be picking up his teeth up off the floor. My turn to find one, loved the office staff, dentists and the dental hygienists! My husband loves them, I love them and when my daughter had a panic attach about pulling a baby tooth out, the newly hired Dr. Hefflefinger, Dr. Heff to the kids, walked in with his Elvis do! All smiles, talking and playing with my daughter until she relaxed and he got her tooth out. I just love that man! LOL.... After that first day with Dr. Heff, she is willing to see Dr. White if Dr. Heff is too busy! Heck! Dr. Heff works on my teeth too! So if I could give this place my true rating it would be a 10! read more

Absolutely the best experience I have ever had at the dentist. I am always very stressed and have to have nitrous even for a cleaning. Wendi and Dr. White really did an amazing job making me feel comfortable and safe while being great professionals. I wish I had found this practice years ago and would recommend it to everyone. It was an excellent experience with their staff. They are so nice, and very kind. It is my first time to Virginia Beach for vacation. Before I left Toronto, I had toothache, but there was no time for me to see dentist. Things got worse and worse, I could not sleep due to the toothache. I just walked into this clinic and asked for treatment. Unfortunately, there was no any dentist available at the time. They did not say no to me, instead, they spent 30 mins to call other clinics to try to find a proper dentist for me! With their kindly help, I got to see dentist at LWSS, and got the treatment. Best dental experience ever! I am terrified of the dentist. I went in today and had my cleaning with Kaytren, she is awesome. She is gentle and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. Best dentist ever! I came here years ago when I switched from a children's dentist and it was a super easy transition. My parents and my brother also go here and love the experience (as much as you can love the dentist, anyway). Every time I go in, my hygienist, Christina, always seems so happy to see me and eager to ask how life and the family are. Dr. White is my usual dentist and he's just as friendly and welcoming. Everyone at the front desk is always helpful and nice as well. There's a nice beachy vibe all throughout the comfy, clean office. It's a great practice that tries to make you feel at home. read more

Oceanfront Dentistry use to be a compassionate group of people. We have been going there for about ten years. I went today for a appointment because I had lost a filling. The first thing the dental assistant said was Oh we've been watching that tooth. Then why when I scheduled the appointment was enough time not allowed to take care of the tooth. I walked out with a treatment plan and no appointment. My husband has had very extensive dental work over the past 10 years and still does not have a chewing surface. He must eat soft foods. Has not had a good piece of protein in over a year. I have recommended Oceanfront dentistry to a lot of people over the years but would not at this time. In our defense I have to state also that we have always had 2 insurances. read more

When I was a little boy and my parents told me we were headed for the dentist... well, you know the feeling of fear and discomfort that came over me. Fast forward--- 2017... now I look forward for my next appointment. That's because Oceanfront Dentistry on 21st Street, has changed the culture, the experience and the ambience of what a dentist office can be transformed to. The credit goes to Drs. White & Heffelfinger for creating a friendly, welcoming, warm, and responsive team of professionals that not only know what they are doing, but they do it with a smile and beam of personally caring about comfort and calmness that is extraordinary. They invested in all the latest technologies, that weren't invented when I was a little boy. Procedures and results performed in one visit. The office is clean and busy with patients never having to wait for an attractive nurse approaching, addressing you by your first name. Nichelle was embroidered on her scrubs top. She had me chuckling without ever administering any laughing gas. I sensed that Drs. White & Heffelfinger allowed each team member to just be themselves, with no micro management style. This freedom accelerated their performance and showed each client a real feeling of confidence in everything accomplished. I asked Nichelle how many hygienists worked in this location, and she joking said, "there is only one hi-genius", and then she took a pose. Even though it was enjoyable and entertaining, she was miraculous with the x-rays, the photographs, the extensive explanation of my dental situation. She competently cleaned, spayed, flossed and polished my teeth with no discomfort at all. During my time there Dr. Heff, April, and Nichelle asked frequently about my comfort and concerns, this I have never experienced while visiting a dentist. The only down side to my experience was when Nichelle looked into her appointment schedule and said, "I'll be seeing you again in May of next year, what day would you prefer?" The successes of Drs. White & Heffelfinger has put them in such high demand, but the efficiencies of the team they have built will assure them many more years of giving dentistry a good name and helping people have great memories of quality work done.
