They give you a lot of reminders before your appointment and they email you paperwork to fill out before your appointment. My hygienist was so awesome. She was thoughtful, and thorough and explained everything that she was doing and even took the time to explain my X-rays. She was so amicable and made me feel so comfortable. This was the best and most painless cleaning that I've ever had. When the dentist came in after my cleaning, he briefly talked to me listened to my concerns, and was able to refer me out to an orthodontist. I am so happy to have found this establishment.

For all the years Ive been in Va Beach, his practice has to be the best Ive been to. There scheduling is always good. They try their best to accommodate you with your chosen time. When you get into the office, you rarely have to wait long because they work like clock work. Don't get me wrong though, their hygienists aren't rushing you because they always do a great job and make me teeth feel squeaky clean but they're just fast hard workers. When it comes to the billing process, they make sure they check with your insurances and make sure they get covered but if its not they offer payment plans. And if you ever been to a dentist you know how pricey that gets... Another thing, if you're like me and you hate when you get dental work and they need to administer anesthesia, Dr. Bergano for some reason does it so good I barely feel the pain of the needle. I came here and it was like going to my small home-town dentist office where they knew my name, my parents, and remembered a lot of details about my life at every visit. It is located near the beachfront right off the interstate and near the Virginia Beach Convention Center. It has ample parking in the attached lot though it is a smaller parking lot with about 8 or so spaces - it never seems to be so over crowded that I can't find any parking... it has been close once or twice though... The inside is very very clean with new equipment and cute beach-y furniture and wall decor - surf boards and seashells and such. They sell Sonicare toothbrushes and products and do oral surgeries and tooth whitening here. I have never needed more than a very minor filling that did not require numbing and the doctor (Dr. Heffelfinger mentioned below) has an excellent bedside manner who decided to not numb me and we went very slowly to see if I even needed it for such a superficial filling. It turned out I didn't so he spared me the stress and pain of that for which I greatly appreciated it. Means I didn't drool on myself all night needlessly. Plus he personally called the next day to check on me - something I believe they do with all patients who had a procedure done and which is a real personal touch that you don't find most places anymore. I've had a few hygienists since coming here over the last two years but my favorite was only there temporarily and left - my current - Kimberly - is very nice and works with me because I am a bleeder with sensitive gums and A LOT of plaque build-up every time no matter how much I floss or how expensive my toothbrush is.... she seems to go out of her way not to hurt me and to try to minimize the dreadful experience. Which is nice. She also asks about my life and makes an effort to remember the details. My dentist - Dr. Heffelfinger is a very nice younger doctor with a friendly and funny personality - who happens to have gone to JMU - my alma mater - which makes us instant best friends and means he is automatically a great American to me.... plus he's pretty damn cute so it could be much worse. I still don't really enjoy coming to the dentist - but it's much better than ANY previous experiences I've had and especially in the Virginia Beach area. if you are looking for the small-town dentist feel where they remember your name and some family details every time you go in and don't farm you in and out like cattle, come here. In my experience, the billing from the office of Dr. Timothy Perez was repeatedly inaccurate. I…read morehave now found a new dentist. Over the last five years, I have been billed incorrectly several times. Each time required considerable effort on my part to compare the office bills with my insurance Explanation of Benefits (EOBs), provide documentation, and explain why I believed the bills were incorrect. I often had to make multiple calls and leave voicemails that were not returned. I found the lack of communication and follow-through very frustrating. The most recent incident was the worst. A service was performed in February 2026, and my insurance processed the claim in March, showing that I owed $0. Despite this, I received three bills from the Perez office in June, July, and August for $35. I returned the first bill with an explanation of the discrepancy and received no response. I did not respond to the second bill, hoping the bookkeeping would catch up. It didn't. After the third bill, I called the office and explained the situation. I was told it would be investigated and that I would receive a call the next day. I didn't. I called again a week later and left another message. No return call. Several days later, when the office called regarding an appointment, I asked to speak with the bookkeeper. I was asked to provide documentation of the insurance payments. I explained that I believed the office should have that information. In frustration, I joked, "If you want me to be your bookkeeper, I'll take care of it. Hire me as your bookkeeper." I was told they would take care of it. Five minutes later, Dr. Perez called and told me to find another dentist. He told me that I didn't understand insurance and that the discrepancies were only a few dollars here and there. He did not address the specific discrepancies I had raised. This was the third significant billing problem in five years that I had to correct, in addition to other occasions when bills did not reflect insurance payments or adjustments. On one occasion, I received a bill showing that I owed $513 when my records showed that I owed only $123. I have spent many hours reconciling these bills with my insurance EOBs. My advice to patients is simple: carefully compare your dental bills with your insurance EOBs before paying. I'm glad I did.
