This is the closest urgent care to me. I've been here several times and the doctors have been competent, knowledgeable and empathetic. The front desk woman however was not pleasant during my 2023 visits. The check in woman acts like she hates her job and openly doesn't want to be there the last time I visited. She openly sighed rudely, shook her head when asking about my symptoms as a "why are you here" as I had covid prior and visited due to symptoms still prolonging after testing negative. What inspired this review today is the hours online say closes at 6pm on Monday. I was turned away by the front desk woman this evening at 5:22pm along with another gentleman that came in a little before me. There was only 1 other woman sitting in the waiting area. read more

I went to Ocean State Urgent Care this evening and my experience was a very positive one. I didn't have to wait long at all in the waiting room. The person who gave me a cardiogram was very kind and personable. The next person, who took the chest X-ray, was very nice, also. The nurse practitioner, also very nice and knowledgeable, then called Miriam Hospital to say I was coming to get blood tests I needed that are not done at Ocean State. She sent me with my printed cardiogram and a CD with my X-ray results. This was my second experience here and thankfully both visits were handled extremely well. read more

Today I went in for ear pain and a possible sinus infection. The PA-never saw a doctor- said both of my ears were filled with fluid, red, and swollen, but were not infected. I asked her why I had so much face pain and pain in my teeth. She said I have a cold and to go home and rest. Didn't run any tests and asked me if I needed anything else and left the room. I will never return there again. Lifespan is 100% better. read more

I came in with a soar throat and a runny nose and feeling kind of feverish. The woman at the front desk Robin was so friendly despite being the only person checking people in and it being busy. I appreciate that because other urgent cares I've been to are known for not being friendly and that's the last thing you want to deal with when you're not feeling well. Went here with my elderly mother on Dec 27 at 4:15 p.m., (hours state close at 7 or 8 p.m.). She had been in an auto collision the night before and banged around a bit, so I wanted her to be checked out. I went to the front desk; there was a man paying for his visit and a young woman who had just come in before us. While I looked through my mothers wallet for her insurance cards, the receptionist told the young woman that there were nine people waiting already and that she would not be seen that day. She then turned to me and in a scolding annoyed tone of voice said "did you hear what I just said?". It took me a moment to realize my mother and I were being addressed before we even got a word out of our mouths! Like naughty children being chastised, she glared at us awaiting our obedient response. I (who had looked at the yelp reviews of this place beforehand, but chose to try it anyway because it was the closest urgent care), told her "Well, I guess the Yelp reviews about this place were right"! She looked stunned and asked me to repeat myself, which I did. Then we turned and walked out. So, my advice, don't bother with this urgent care location - TERRIBLE ATTITUDE! There are much nicer ways to deal with people. We went elsewhere that afternoon and, even where there were more than nine waiting, we got seen. read more

Awful, awful, awful. They would not check me in at 7:40 pm. I could not get there any sooner due to childcare. Their hours should not state 8pm if they are not willing to take patients late. I work in the medical field and we would never do this to a person that was sick. I've noticed in reading other reviews that most people feel the same about this place. I spent over 2 hours here unnecessarily. After waiting 45 mins in the waiting room (understandable... it is a walk in clinic) I figured they must be busy or short staffed. They bring me back and I see no less than 5 employees sitting down doing absolutely nothing. I know for a fact it was absolutely nothing, because while I was waiting in the examination room for an hour, I heard them converse about Greys Anatomy and going out to get food. Additionally, I could hear them talk about other patients being seen, including first, last and DOB (HIPPA violation anyone??) I spoke with a medical assistant about my symptoms. They tested me for the Flu. Waited 25 mins to give me the results (which take 3 mins to spin...). Came back and tested me for strep. Waited 25 mins before someone came in (mind you I can HEAR them say, "Room 2 Strep is negative" 15 mins ago). And when someone finally came in, no one actually told me the results, just asked me to put out my finger, and with no explanation pricked my finger. Found out later it was a test for Mono. Would have been nice if someone actually asked me. I had mono before... and once you have mono you almost never get it twice. Then someone swabs my throat for strep AGAIN so they can send it away. Looks like they just wanted a few more tests to bill insurance. I never even actually saw a nurse practitioner or physician assistant. Only medical assistants.Which is also illegal. As I was leaving, I informed the medical assistant that my neck was very sore, and I asked if they were concerned it may be meningitis. Hopeful he would loop in a NP or PA (or god forbid... a DOCTOR) He said, "No, you don't have any other symptoms". Which I did. Which was why I was there. This place is a malpractice suit waiting to happen. And when it does, I hope the attorney checks Yelp and contacts me. read more

Well my experience started off very well with them. I had x-rays for an injured foot. They said just a sprain so ok that was great news then I missed a call 5 minutes before closing time to call them back regarding the x-rays. So first thing the following morning I called at least 10 times waiting on hold one time for 48 minutes only to be disconnected. Someone finally picked up in the afternoon i told them I was returning their call she sent me over to some dept. it rang a bunch of times no voicemail just a disconnect. I called back they don't pick up. My husband is driving down there now as I type this for the results What kind of office doesn't pick up their phone?? Very disappointing Update husband went there to get paperwork on results the woman behind the desk was same one as yesterday . There she is playing on her phone. as just like yesterday is maskless while the rest of the people are required to wear one. She is the one dismissing all my calls today. This urgent care use to be amazing, since they were bought out it is absolutely horrible. Ruse front desk staff, inaccurate billing information, the doctors don't care. Ive been there twice since the change, first time was for a stomach bug and the doctor literally told me she had no idea and sent me on my way. The second time I went I had a very bad cough, the doctor looked at my throat and said yeah it could be a virus or bronchitis here's a Z Pack without listening to my lungs or an X ray. Days later my cough is getting worse and I can't breath. I went to a different urgent care and immediately they found I had a pretty good case of pneumonia. Went a week and a half ago, was told my daughter had an upper respiratory infection by a nurse and it just had to take it's course. She never saw a doctor. Went back today with the same symptoms and after waiting forever, was told my daughter had to go into the room alone, citing a rise in Covid, because she just turned 18. I asked for a manager, as my daughter is 18 by only a month and still doesn't understand all the medical stuff. They refused to let me in with her DESPITE being allowed to when she was misdiagnosed there a week and a half ago. That is a ridiculous policy, especially since we live in the same household and she already had two negative PCR tests. There are plenty of other urgent care centers in the area that care about their patients and their well being. Avoid this place. read more

Went to the Coventry location for intestinal issues. Was told (by a PA) that I had diverticulitis based on my symptoms and a very brief palpitation of my abdomen. No other tests were performed. I was put on two VERY strong antibiotics. They never really helped, they made me feel worse for the entire time I was on them. Ended up in the ER twice due to exhaustion/insomnia and the terrible side effects of the medicine. Both time the ER doctors did an exam and assured me that I did not in fact have diverticulitis. I went to a GI specialist who also assured me that I did not have diverticulitis. I recently signed on with a new PCP who examined me, listened to my stories from when I had diverticulitis and also assured me that I did not have diverticulitis at the age of 28. Long story short. With a disease as serious as diverticulitis, more testing should have been done (blood tests, x-rays, etc..) before I was put on the antibiotics. The antibiotics made me feel worse, I was bed ridden for a solid week, lost 20+ lbs and a lot of muscle. I am currently awaiting a panel of tests from my new PCP to make sure I am truly healthy. I will never be back to this urgent care again. They just treat and street you with little regard for your true well being. read more

I see a lot of negative reviews, and I'm sure all of these patients have a valid reason to their poor reviews. However, I had a very different experience, a very good one, to the point I'd consider changing my primary care MD to this facility. I had an awful day 10/28. I was very sick, with what I KNOW is sinusitis with Bronchitis, get it like clockwork every October or November. However, this time around it was more aggressive and I really felt horrid. My primary care would not see me without a negative covid test. They told me go to an urgent care, only I could not find an appointment. I went to a minute clinic (cvs) with an appointment and it was pretty useless. They did rule out FLU, that was about it, told me had to get Covid test, even though he agreed it was most likely sinusitis and Bronchitis. Anyway, wouldn't write a script for the meds I KNOW I need and now off to the flipping RI Convention Center for a rapid Covid test. Wait 3 hours there, sick as a dog, to find out I'm negative. Now off to Smithfield! Arrive at urgent care, site reads: open until 8 pm walks in allowed. Arrive, call number on door (now standing in the rain) and I'm told "we can't see you if you have a cough, sorry" HUH?? That's what you do! Help sick people, was about to lose my mind but she put me on hold and an angel answered the phone, (did not get her name) but she was kind and attentive and said with my Covid negative test she'd most certainly help. I went in, front desk was friendly and helpful. I waited about an hour, run down, tired, miserable and then the Paramedic, yes she was a paramedic, girl that answered door, the girl that let me in, brought me to my room. She was friendly, funny, attentive and seemed to care about my well being. Then, NP Danielle Giorgi, came in and I felt instantly better. I explained what's happening, explained since I was 18 I get this infection every October or November. She was so kind, an angel, she assured me she'd take care of me. Had X Ray done quickly, checking for pneumonia, negative. Spent some time listening to my lungs and she agreed with my prognosis. Wrote my meds, had them in an hour and was home in bed resting. I already feel marketably better today than yesterday afternoon. I would highly recommend this urgent care, especially if you get NP Giorgi! read more

I went here in December before work one morning. The hours of Ocean State Urgent Care are better than most; I'm always surprised that so many urgent care centers in RI have terrible hours. It's open seven days a week (8 am - 9 pm Monday to Friday and 8 am to 8 pm on weekends). The location has plenty of parking and is very clean. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. I was in and out pretty quickly. I would definitely go back again. read more

The entire staff was totally awesome...extremely professional, thorough and took ample time to explain a treatment plan. The X-ray tech was wonderful too. Job well done staff.. The first time I went to Ocean State, it was for some extreme back pain - to the point I couldn't even walk. Without knowing much of my medical history, they gave me a strong shot of pain reliever which made me pass out and crack my head open. If they knew the pain medication is so strong that sometimes it causes people to pass out, they should've never gave it to me. After passing out, they were very helpful and careful with me. Of course this was after my head was bleeding all over the place. They took an x-ray of my back and said that most likely I have a pulled muscle, and recommended physical therapy. 6 months later I got fed up with no progress and decided to get an MRI - turns out I had a herniated disk and that the problem was worse than originally thought. Ocean State should've listened to me when I told them what happened and they should've known that a herniated disk could've been what happened. Instead it just seems like they quickly wanted to get me in and out. The second and last experience I had at Ocean state was fairly recent. I went there because of some extreme ear pain. I told the nurse practitioner that I've had ear pain like this before and it was from an ear infection or some type of flu or cold. She asked me what my symptoms were, I told her: headache, ear pain, sore throat, body aches...etc etc. she then asked me if i grinds my teeth or have any jaw problems, I told her no but yet she comes back and says I have TMJ. Because TMJ causes all of this? It doesn't. A few days later I wake up with a 100° fever, and I'm even more sick, which is likely the flu. Needless to say I won't be returning to Ocean State Urgent Care Care. They don't know what they're doing. read more

I booked a Covid test twice. The first time they told me I didn't have an appointment but according to the app they make you use to book an appointment, I absolutely did. So I was turned away and told to try again tomorrow. Book the second appointment, get there early and everything. There's only two spots to park to get tested from your vehicle. Someone was taking up both spots. I call them to say I'm here but I'm unable to park. Girl at the front desk says ok just stay there, we see you, you're close enough, she'll be right there to test you. Provider Micheline Poirier-Woolf, FNP tells me she won't test me where I'm parked. So I wasted a second day! Mind you, I was half a parking spot away from the covid parking spots. The provider was rude and probably was appalled by the attitude I gave right back but how can you do this to someone who is clearly going through a stressful time?! STAY AWAY! I will never return here. I was sick for almost 2 weeks and couldn't get out of bed, so a little over a week in I had a virtual doctor appt since I couldn't get up. I was prescribed an antibiotic. I ended up getting worse on the antibiotic and still couldn't get out of bed. I finally drag myself to this place to be seen. The "doctor" if that's what you want to call her came into the exam room with an attitude to begin with, no tact and what seemed to be a preconceived notion of me. She asked what my problem was (just like that) and I started to tell her I was sick for almost 2 weeks. She then says, well why don't you start from the beginning since I don't know you. Umm, okay that what I was trying to do. She continued to cut me off and not let me finish speaking and when she heard about the virtual doctor appt it struck a nerve with her. She told me to stop taking the antibiotic and get over-the-counter Sudafed and Mucinex (which I had already tried). I was so upset with her treatment that I said to her that she literally wasted my time and little energy I had going there. Her response was she was "fixing what the online doctor did." Nice try! She never listened to me and/or didn't care - either way, I will never return. Also to mention she asked me at one point if I worked. She didn't so much as give me a strep test, a flu test, an X-ray for sinuses or lungs, NOTHING! Fast forward 2 days, I got worse, went to the hospital, got a chest X-ray and have pneumonia. Was there at opening 8am with three people who walked in right before me. The receptionist had no urgency isn't it called Urgent care. The first patient wasn't called in until 8:23. Why open at 8am if your not ready to serve patients when you open. At 8:32the 2nd patient was called in and at 8:44 the third patient was called to pay his deductible-he had nothing ready and had to refill out paperwork. Instead of calling me over she just stood there watching him sitting in a chair filling out paperwork. At 8:50 I walked up and asked for my ID and card back. I scheduled and appointment at the CVS minute clinic and was in/out within 15 mins. CVS was adequately staffed with efficient employees who clearly know how to run a practice. I went today to this urgent care for an issue with my arm, the person at the front desk very nice and professional, only waited a few minutes to be seen, when i was sent to the examining room the nurse asked me a few questions but that was it, she didn't take my vitals or anything, then the nurse practitioner Ms, P also asked me a few questions, did not examined me nor took vitals, she was acting like if i had the cooties or something contagious, she didn't want to get close to me for some reason, she just said it's not life threatening, you can wait until next week when you go home (I live in FL) and see your doctor, and she can order a sonogram of the arm, more or less she implied that i was exaggerating the issue, she was with me for about three minutes at most! she did not listen to anything i said, and made her own conclusion, no compassion or empathy. No, I would NOT recommend this place, not because of the front staff but the people that supposed to care for you but they do NOT! read more

Everytime i bring one of my boys or myself I'm always extremely pleased with the staff. Everyone is super nice. I never feel rushed in the room. The PA's and NP's are very knowledgeable. Medical assistants are very pleasant. Wait can be a little long but it's an urgent care so that's to be expected. The place was absolutely spotless the last time i went. As soon as we walked in the lady at the front desk was in an awful mood and being disrespectful. It always takes forever to be seen and when the doctor did come in it was almost like he wasn't even sure he knew what he was talking about. I almost had to tell the doctor what I thought it was and that I wanted medicine. They didn't even look at my sinuses after I asked them too. They gave me a strep test and said it was negative while a day later my actual doctor gave a strep test and it was positive and I had a sinus infection as well. Such a waste of time for people that are never accurate. This has happened multiple times throughout a few years. Called ahead to see if they could do sutures for my son. Was told yes, waited over 2 hours to be told that my son needed to go to hasboro. It is understandable if the level of care provided at this facility is unable to cover the need of the patient it is fine. It should NOT have taken 2 hours of our time and my son bleeding in the waiting room. The APRN was very caring but did not have the recourses needed to properly triage or care for my son. This service also does not provide an accurate estimation of your place in line as it showed our name at the top, then off the list while people were still being taken back ahead of us . This is not the first issue we have had at this urgent care but it will be the last. I am making sure to tell all of my friends and family to steer clear of this place. If our emergency cannot wait until our pcp or pedi is open we will go to the ER rather than waste our time waiting in a filthy waiting room. Our family would give these folks a 4.8. We have always received excellent care once they became Ocean State urgent care. They have looked at multiple sprains, contusions, fevers, and even removed treble hooks in fingers without a blink and done all of this with excellent communication and follow up. I give it a 4.8 because billing is not always excellent but it is good. The medical end of things is terrific. read more

WASTE OF TIME! They are more worried about whether your insurance is accepted or not and your ability to pay than your health. They give you false diagnoses.The PA doesnt listen to all your symptoms and if you dare make a suggestion for testing they think its " expensive and unnecessary" if your an out of state traveler and don't have health insurance please go to the hospital in stead don't go here if you need blood work up to rule out an infection they only pay attention to whats on the surface. read more

Scam artists , I went there a few weeks ago they said I owed them $5 from a previous visit so I paid , no problem it's $5 right . I go there tonight because I can't breathe and I feel like I'm gonna pass out and they say , you owe us $85 . For what ? I asked . The girl tells me she can't tell me what it's for . Ok, I'm not giving you $85 if I don't know what it's for . Show me a past bill , tell me when it was from and ok I'll pay you right now , no worries , if I owe it I owe it . Not happening , she tells me I can pay the $85 and call billing on Monday to find out what it's for , WTF ? . No I'm not giving you money unless I know what it's for . Her response ? Ok, call Monday find out what it's for , pay it . Then you come back . Real nice . I'll be letting everyone know how you deal with people and about your business practices which are deceptive at best . I'll call Monday , if I owe I'll pay. But I will never go to your shady place again and will be certain to advise anyone else against it as well . Note to previous customers , review your bills .
