unfortunately, I cannot give it more than zero stars. The room was in an appalling state - it was filthy, outdated, and had a persistent smell of something unpleasant, possibly due to a plunger that was left in the bathroom. Speaking of which, the bathroom itself was equipped with a full bath with jets, but it was far from inviting. I couldn't imagine anyone wanting to use it. I couldn't help but question the authenticity of the positive reviews I had read before booking. The condition of the room and the overall state of the hotel were simply incompatible with those reviews. Frankly, I believe they must be fake or at the very least, outdated. The lack of maintenance and care in this hotel is shocking. It's clear that renovations are desperately needed, and I wouldn't recommend anyone to stay here until that happens. The owners should feel ashamed of the state of their establishment and the poor experience they are subjecting their guests to. Adding to the disappointment was the staff's attitude. Unfriendly is an understatement - they seemed completely unbothered by the guests' concerns. Customer service skills were nowhere to be found, and to make matters worse, there wasn't even a proper reception desk. As for the lobby, it was barely recognizable as one. In summary, my stay at this hotel was an utter disappointment. I sincerely hope that the owners take note of the numerous issues and take immediate action to revamp the place. Until then, I would strongly advise potential guests to steer clear.

My family and I have never been to Virginia Beach so we decided to check it out this past May (2018). After looking at several places, Ocean Sands Resort was the place we all decided on. When I arrived, the first thing I noticed was that we were walking distance from everything. The location was awesome! The resort is right on the boardwalk and you have restaurants, bars, shops, and entertainment just steps away. The room, unfortunately, was not that satisfying. It was small, outdated, and needed a more thorough cleaning. The only positive was the ocean view.

Will definitely not be staying here again!! $360 a night and we had to search down basic essentials that should be in a room. We arrived; had no shower curtain for the shower. Look a little further in the room and realize half the widow was missing a darkening curtain. Walked back to the front desk...again, because we had no phone in the room for me to call them. Upon advising the front desk of the missing curtain, they provide me with a sheet to cover the window....because they had no more curtains!!! (Really, no other curtains in the entire hotel?!) The 2nd day the light was so bright I asked again for something to cover the window; they brought in a grill cover and hung it at our door! We were told this was their "display room" so it was missing things due to that reason, needless to say that is a poor excuse to not have a completely furnished room! We will NEVER book here again. We were approached to purchase a time share while there and this experience will definitely prevent that from happening!!

What a grand hotel. It feels like home with all the amenities to include a washer and dryer on the floor. We had an ocean beach view that was magnificent. The surrounding restaurants and shops were nice and convenient. If I told you the price you wouldn't believe me . Thank you to the staff (Roxanne) and the others for quick resolution related to an invoice mix up.

So let's start from the top. Check-in - Great! Friendly service, fast and efficient. Room - First off we get to the room, and the door is open. Hmm...I hope that's just a cleaning lady in there. So I open the door and yell in (I'd hate to walk in on another guest if by chance they gave us a key to an occupied room. Instead I find a shower curtain on the floor, dirty dishes in the dishwasher, but an overall clean room. I say clean with a grain of salt. So I call down to ask if cleaning staff weren't done yet? And why the door was open is the room OK? Instead of insisting they will send someone up immediately, it was more of a "do you want us to send someone up". We declined and moved on. The bed was made, the sheets were fresh and clean, it's almost like the cleaning people left the room in the middle of cleaning. So back to the door...well the door doesn't close properly. You have to push the button in with your finger and close the door at the same time (trying not to catch your finger). Option II, just slam the hell out of it and rattle the walls and annoy your neighbors every time you enter or exit. And by slam I mean SLAM!! So I did the nice thing and banged up my finger trying to push that stupid door thing in. We had an ocean view room. That was the highlight and anyone that ever uses RCI knows they deal with some pretty shi*t properties at times. This one was no exception. My biggest issues were the cleanliness of the room. Under the fridge in the corner was just grime and gunk that has never been cleaned. The bathroom also just didn't have the clean feel or look. Spider web in the corner, more grime, touch up paint that didn't match. And while the linens were clean, we just never felt comfortable that the bed was clean. Given the other issues. You know that feeling of I don't want to touch too much? This place has potential especially being ocean view, they have such a good opportunity but I guess they figure hell we're on the beach people will come period. On the plus side, again the balcony and ocean view were the highlights.

No, this isn't what some people call a five-star resort, but I do. It's clean, I'm not lacking ONE thing, the view is AMAzing, and it's $65 a night on off-season. Free WiFi! Free Parking! Balcony. Kitchen, closet, and dresser, which I insist on, and quiet. There's a pool, exercise room... What more could I want? Oh, you want more!!!! How 'bout viewing horses walking on the beach from the balcony. Dolphins a few hundred feet off the beach. And whales! Yes, whales! Humpback whales not a hundred yards off the beach. An entire pod of them. I definitely recommend Ocean Sands Resort, as it's nearly centrally located on the strip of beach, walking distance to anything you need, and yet, so quiet. I'll definitely be back!

This place does not look like much but it is our new staycation from home! I enjoyed our 1 night and wished we could have a sitter for 2! The staff was so friendly and prompt. The pool and the jacuzzi are awesome, so quaint though the jacuzzi needs to be bigger BUT the pool really is warm! Our room felt like a luxury, the kitchen is something you could use for days and make food in. The bed and linens were amazing and the location and the views were worth every penny. There is something of everything literally within minutes from the resort. Such a great deal. such a great time.

We stayed here three nights for a leisurely trip through memory lane. Our relationship started in Virginia Beach 26 years ago. We had never stayed right on the beach like this in warm weather. Being right on the beach was amazing!! It was great to have a kitchen to store leftovers in a fridge. The dishes were in the dishwasher clean, so if you can't find dishes, look there. The suite was clean and comfortable. It wouldn't have been big enough had we brought our young adult kids, but it was perfect for just the two of us. We would definitely stay there again!

Ideal location for our first visit to Virginia Beach! Right in the middle of things, boardwalk and beach are right out back door. Every room in the place has a ocean view, stay in the tower and get up as high as possible if you can and you can watch the beach day and night from a birds eye view. Watch all the people walking and jogging the boardwalk if your a people watcher. Its also nice to watch the horses walk and run down the beach. The resort has a free tanning bed, for those off season months or whenever you want to use it, just bring your eye protection or buy the sticker ones they have for 50 cents. Free washer and dryers on certain floors to do your laundry anytime you want. Walgreens is one block away. The kitchen in the unit is very accommodating. The living room/dining area has a TV and the bedroom also has one. 1 Bedroom unit is very spacious for 2 people, it does have a pull out bed in the sofa so a few kids would be OK but I wouldn't suggest 4 adult for the room although depending on what you want to spend and if you aren't too picky it can be done, especially if you are out most of the day enjoying in the beaches and clubs and just using room to pass out LOL. We had a wonderful week here, I do have to mention the jets who fly past pretty much all day...you do get used to them but they are loud at first when you first arrive and aren't accustomed to them. The up points are the ocean view, the sound of the waves all day and night when you leave the windows open, the convienience of the full kitchen and dishware/appliances the unit has to offer. Everything on the strip is within walking distance even the grocery store..... although walking back with more that one bag of groceries it is best to take a cab which was a $7-8 ride. Front desk staff was very helpful and the resort was clean and we had a very nice experience, would certainly visit this resort again. This resort has two other sister resorts one is way down the strip on the low end around 5th street (I cant remember name, but its where the timeshare presentations are held) and the Atruim which is off the strip. But this one is by far the best.

I visited during off-peak season so noise and traffic wasn't too big of an issue at the hotel. I wouldn't want to stay here during the busier times in the summer. I loved how much ocean soundscapes I could hear from the 5th floor balcony. The view was beautiful and the room felt quiet. Something I super appreciated. The only gripes I had was the mandatory valet parking and the extremely low shower pressure. The sink had drainage issues too. I also ran out of towels during my overnight stay. There's no suite, dresser, or closet in the room either. So think short-term stays. I still wouldn't mind returning again in the future and wouldn't hesitate recommending the place to anyone thinking of visiting. The downstairs lobby has breakfast spot as well as a bar and coffee shop. The concierge was friendly and very accommodating. Shoutout to Alexander for making sure everything was set up just right for my visit. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!

Overall, we had a wonderful three night stay at the Moxy Oceanfront. We selected this spot because…read moreit was dog-friendly and relatively cheaper (with decent reviews) compared to other pet-friendly hotels on the boardwalk. Our three-night stay in March, which was booked in November, was about $250 per night. Although there was a half marathon happening in the area, I think our rate (booked through a 3rd party) was on the lower end because March is still considered the off season. The hotel itself is quite modern compared to the other more dated hotels in the area. It definitely is geared to younger crowd (20s-30s) because of design, layout, the amount of video games, the bar with snazzy cocktails, and of course an indoor slide that goes from the 2nd to the 1st floor. For our purposes, I thought our room was fine for two adults and a dog. Compared to other places I have stayed, the room was a bit small. However, we're the type of people who only use the room for sleeping so not having a huge amount of space is not a deal breaker for us. Although our room had a partial ocean view (on the south side of the building), the view was still impressive. My spouse did have a minor complaint in that the rooms did not have a dresser or a closet, but the room has plenty of hooks/hangers where you can hang your things along the walls. Although the hotel is not in the "central" area of the boardwalk (around 21st street), it is still located in a nice section of the boardwalk that is walking distance to a wide array of restaurants, bars and other attractions. For example, the hotel is next door to the Wildfowl Museum. ;) Valet is about 11 bucks per night. In general, there were no major issues with valet services. Unfortunately, there was a minor issue in that the hotel overbooked valet parking due to an event it was hosting. However, that situation did not affect us too much with the exception of a slightly longer than normal wait. Everyone on the staff with whom I interacted were friendly and very professional. Also, I thought the cleaning crew did a great job with maintaining the hotel. Although the hotel is pet-friendly, I did not smell old/wet dog/cat odors in the common areas or hallways. If we decided to stay on the Oceanfront, we definitely will keep the Moxy in consideration.

Not sure if it's just a thing if the past or something new but it would be helpful if guests could have access to religious materials. The housekeeping staff does a meticulous job cleaning each room after the guests leaves. Throughout our nearly 6 months stay, Jerome and Herbert in particular have really gone out of their way to keep our stay here feel like home. For example, when our A/C unit failed in the middle of murky summer, Jerome replaced the entire unit right away. I have also had trouble handling the incredible humidity I've not experienced since leaving Japan. But thank goodness for Jerome again --he ensured I had a really good dehumidifier that also helped muffle noises as well. I cannot emphasize enough on what a truly instrumental role he had played in keeping my whole family feel comfortable. I find that especially noteworthy because we were there for quite awhile. The Lodge location is steps away from the Dam Neck Naval Base Beach and the sunrise is beautiful. It also has a kitchenette that is fully functional to cook a good meal unless you need an oven. The fridge is big enough to put in whatever you need and the stove is easy to cleanup. The cabinets are stuffed with everything you'd find in a kitchen. Cooking utensils, pots, pans, plates, cups, wine openers, wine glass, dish rack, soap and sponge. You name it, they have it. And this is what really makes the stay better than being over at the Navy Gateway Inns and Suites (NGIS) if you are here for awhile-- especially if you are like me and prefer to cook your own meals, staying at the Lodge is a MUST. And if you have pets, the Lodge is also AN ABSOLUTE must. One of the great things about Navy Lodge Oceana is how pet friendly it is. Our two beagles loved the area and there are 3 receptacles on-site to keep doggie poo thrown out. Keep in mind that it is a high tick and flea area so ensuring they get brushed after a walk is a must! Well, not unless you like to shriek like me when I found two ticks on my laptop thanks to my dog ubering them inside. And just for the record, both dogs also take Nexgard and Heartgard monthly. Now the NGIS might work beautifully for those who are in the Dam Neck /Oceana area for short term stay, or ok with eating takeouts every day because you don't cook, and /or doesn't have pets. Or that they'd prefer the nicer furniture or less noise to deal with. I've stayed at both and NGIS is far easier to make reservations for leisure and their beds are very comfortable. In sum, I had a fantastic stay and I look forward to returning every chances I get. For $75/night, the rates are exceptional and the location is perfect. I wouldn't hesitate recommending it to everyone. -- Cons: Elevator--The building has no elevator. So if you have loads of luggages, you will need to take it to your room upstairs using the staircase. Reservation --Making reservation here can be pretty easy if you are staying because of TAD/TDA/PCS orders. For leisure traveling, you'd have better luck at the NGIS or other nearby civilian operated hotels. The leisure travel can be only made 7 days ahead of the stay. And chances are, you are 99% likely to be told they have nothing for vacancies, or they have something for just 1 day out of a 7 day trip or something very inconvenient. WiFi--The WiFi here can be spotty, nonexistent, or extremely slow. If there's someone playing video games in the evening, you can tell right away and you have a bad night ahead of you if you need the Internet. It'd be far less frustrating to get Internet connection elsewhere. Also, the cellphone data connection here is also rather lousy. So no, using data won't help with watching YouTube or something else. If you need to make a call, you'd also have better luck by going outside. You'll see bunches of other sailors or marines pacing and walking around sometimes for the same reason. Noise level--You can hear just about everything from your surroundings. Toilet flushing, heart stopping door slams, other dogs barking all day, people's conversations and/or TV sounds all hours of day, jets, gunshots from the swamp side, housekeepers cleaning , anything in the hallway, etc. Privacy Please sign on the door doesn't mean much either. So if your next door guest has his alarm go off at 0500 and well into 0800, nobody can or will do anything about it. Well, not unless Herbert is working in the morning. He was the only person who was willing to intervene after multiple other lobby staff refused to help. Try imagining the alarms making a loud incessant beeping the entire time behind your headboard at 0500 on a Sunday for 3+ hours while the other guest somehow sleep through it or not even be there over the weekend! My point is, if you are sensitive to noise stimuli, or dislike wearing ear plugs, I don't recommend staying here.
