We got the "one bedroom ocean front suite with balcony". The room was very spacious, with two televisions, stove, fridge, and a large tub with jets. I think the reasonable pricing and the view made up for the rooms not being picture perfect. Nothing disgusting or anything, but definitely not glamorous. I enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the evening. But the AC is extremely loud at night. I'm rating high based on the value overall, all things considered I'd come here again without hesitation. It's directly across from the arcade and you have immediate beach access. If you want a convenient spot for a short stay, this is it. read more

I found the resort to be exceptional, especially for the location and amenities. We are staying in the one bedroom suite. I love it! It has a bedroom, living area, full kitchen (with utensils and cookware) and two full restrooms. We're on the 6th floor. All rooms are beachfront. Daniel and Britney have been AMAZING during our stay! Britney gave us information for all the off-season hot spots. Great woodwork, sleek and clean. I can't show the full layout b/c we have stuff everywhere, but this place is very clean. There is NO housekeeping services during our stay, but the room was well stocked with soaps and towels. There was plenty of parking and no fee. There was only a 100$ incidental hold. Again, this is in the way way off l-season, but, I like it here. I'd certainly stay again... and again. Do note: Any noise from the living room is heard in the bedroom. read more

Very pleased! Lots of fluffy pillows & bath towels. Clean, spacious. Large heaeted indoor pool with a hot jacuzzi in one corner that could seat 6-8 people comfortably. FREE Laundry facilities on several floors (bring your own detergent.) Exceptionally friendly & helpful staff throughout. Plenty of food & other shops across the street, but an excellent Mexican restaurant at the resort with outdoor seating as well. Easy parking. ON the boardwalk. Highly recommend. read more

My Husband and I decided to book a stay at Ocean Sands Resort for two days. We were greeted by Christiana at the entry and she motioned for us to check in with her. As she pulled up our reservation she got upset with one of her co workers for our booking and was complaining to a nearby co worker about it, mind you she did not censor her words. My husband and I were standing there quietly when she was explaining about a $25 resort fee which she did not explain we had to pay now and we assumed that we could pay later. Then Christiana decided to yell at us to pay now. My husband gave her his card and after the vulgar encounter we headed to our room. The room was quite average however it did have a beach view with a balcony. It was perfect for watching the sunrise the next morning. The surrounding area is fun for all ages with many beach shops, bars, arcades and restaurants. read more

The only good thing about this place is it's on the beach and the staff is friendly. THIS PLACE IS A DUMP! The carpet in the room was disgusting my feet were black from just walking around a minute. I put extra sheets and towels on the floor for the entirety of our stay. Why you would put carpet in a beach resort is beyond me. The bathroom floor and shower looked unclean. I bought Lysol and cleaned it myself. The fold out couch bed was maybe 2 inches thick , I felt bad that my boys had to sleep on that bed but no way was I going to have them sleep on that floor . It needs an overhaul ASAP! I would never stay there again ‍ read more

Last minute getaway for New Year's Eve weekend for two adults and teen girl. We knew that there would be parties and such but wow- it was a wild atmosphere at this place. Very loud and lots of smoking- including weed! on the balcony below us so we couldn't sit outside and enjoy the oceanfront at all. The staff were friendly and working hard. The room itself was decent. The pull out sleeper sofa bed was really uncomfortable and we had to request bedding for it, which took a while. We checked out the pool and hot tub on New Year's Eve but there was a large group drinking up there and we didn't want to be in that mix. The location is great- right in the heart of the oceanfront on the boardwalk. The bar and restaurant looks like a hole in the wall. Update today: May have to notify the staff because I think I have bed bug bites on my feet! read more

unfortunately, I cannot give it more than zero stars. The room was in an appalling state - it was filthy, outdated, and had a persistent smell of something unpleasant, possibly due to a plunger that was left in the bathroom. Speaking of which, the bathroom itself was equipped with a full bath with jets, but it was far from inviting. I couldn't imagine anyone wanting to use it. I couldn't help but question the authenticity of the positive reviews I had read before booking. The condition of the room and the overall state of the hotel were simply incompatible with those reviews. Frankly, I believe they must be fake or at the very least, outdated. The lack of maintenance and care in this hotel is shocking. It's clear that renovations are desperately needed, and I wouldn't recommend anyone to stay here until that happens. The owners should feel ashamed of the state of their establishment and the poor experience they are subjecting their guests to. Adding to the disappointment was the staff's attitude. Unfriendly is an understatement - they seemed completely unbothered by the guests' concerns. Customer service skills were nowhere to be found, and to make matters worse, there wasn't even a proper reception desk. As for the lobby, it was barely recognizable as one. In summary, my stay at this hotel was an utter disappointment. I sincerely hope that the owners take note of the numerous issues and take immediate action to revamp the place. Until then, I would strongly advise potential guests to steer clear. read more

I stayed at the "resort" July 14-19 2024. No housekeeping the entire stay. The tub didn't drain at all. The room didn't match the picture in the confirmation email. It was like they took pictures of a different hotel. I actually swept out the tub because of the sand. They charged us a $64 fee for not booking an entire week when I actually tried too but they didn't have availability. They confirmed our reservation 2 days before we arrived and STILL lost our reservation when we went to check in. I asked for service in our room and the front desk told me they had an exchange program...which meant that we stripped our own bed and brought our dirty things down to exchange for clean things. It was a horrible experience and we will never stay there again. read more

My family and I have never been to Virginia Beach so we decided to check it out this past May (2018). After looking at several places, Ocean Sands Resort was the place we all decided on. When I arrived, the first thing I noticed was that we were walking distance from everything. The location was awesome! The resort is right on the boardwalk and you have restaurants, bars, shops, and entertainment just steps away. The room, unfortunately, was not that satisfying. It was small, outdated, and needed a more thorough cleaning. The only positive was the ocean view. read more

The timeshare near the beach offers some great amenities such as an indoor pool and a bar/restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating on the boardwalk. Although the decor is slightly dated, it is relatively clean and tidy. However, there is room for improvement in terms of customer service as I witnessed a front desk representative arguing with a customer. Additionally, parking can be a bit of a challenge (very tight spaces for larger cars). read more

Will definitely not be staying here again!! $360 a night and we had to search down basic essentials that should be in a room. We arrived; had no shower curtain for the shower. Look a little further in the room and realize half the widow was missing a darkening curtain. Walked back to the front desk...again, because we had no phone in the room for me to call them. Upon advising the front desk of the missing curtain, they provide me with a sheet to cover the window....because they had no more curtains!!! (Really, no other curtains in the entire hotel?!) The 2nd day the light was so bright I asked again for something to cover the window; they brought in a grill cover and hung it at our door! We were told this was their "display room" so it was missing things due to that reason, needless to say that is a poor excuse to not have a completely furnished room! We will NEVER book here again. We were approached to purchase a time share while there and this experience will definitely prevent that from happening!! read more

So let's start from the top. Check-in - Great! Friendly service, fast and efficient. Room - First off we get to the room, and the door is open. Hmm...I hope that's just a cleaning lady in there. So I open the door and yell in (I'd hate to walk in on another guest if by chance they gave us a key to an occupied room. Instead I find a shower curtain on the floor, dirty dishes in the dishwasher, but an overall clean room. I say clean with a grain of salt. So I call down to ask if cleaning staff weren't done yet? And why the door was open is the room OK? Instead of insisting they will send someone up immediately, it was more of a "do you want us to send someone up". We declined and moved on. The bed was made, the sheets were fresh and clean, it's almost like the cleaning people left the room in the middle of cleaning. So back to the door...well the door doesn't close properly. You have to push the button in with your finger and close the door at the same time (trying not to catch your finger). Option II, just slam the hell out of it and rattle the walls and annoy your neighbors every time you enter or exit. And by slam I mean SLAM!! So I did the nice thing and banged up my finger trying to push that stupid door thing in. We had an ocean view room. That was the highlight and anyone that ever uses RCI knows they deal with some pretty shi*t properties at times. This one was no exception. My biggest issues were the cleanliness of the room. Under the fridge in the corner was just grime and gunk that has never been cleaned. The bathroom also just didn't have the clean feel or look. Spider web in the corner, more grime, touch up paint that didn't match. And while the linens were clean, we just never felt comfortable that the bed was clean. Given the other issues. You know that feeling of I don't want to touch too much? This place has potential especially being ocean view, they have such a good opportunity but I guess they figure hell we're on the beach people will come period. On the plus side, again the balcony and ocean view were the highlights. read more

The location of this resort is fantastic. It's right off the boardwalk and tons of places to walk to. There is free on site parking which is very tight. Check in was pretty smooth. Lobby was okay. There were tons of bellhops available for us to use. They were rickety though. We got to our room and the first thing that we noticed was how dated it was. It was clean but just old. The bathroom had hardware are from the 90s and they painted the walls yellow with blue countertops. One thing that irked me was that the hotel was made for four people but there was only enough towel racks for three towels. There was no where else to hang the fourth towel. Everything in the bathroom was just old. They have a jacuzzi tub but I would never ever use it. The knobs and jacuzzi jets were yellowing while the jets were just grimy. It was so nice to have a kitchen in the hotel room. We were able to cook breakfast and a couple of small meals during our stay. However, the kitchen needed some maintenance. Some of the cabinet doors were falling off the hinges. There wasn't a full set of dishes or silverware. Dishwasher door was broken so the bottom rack didn't glide out smoothly. The hotel room was slotted for four. But really, that's pushing it. We traveled as a family with two young kids and the sleeping situation sucked. The pull out mattress is a joke. It was so uncomfortable to the point that we went to Walmart to buy an air mattress. The bed was so worn in. There were two grooves on each side that you would kind of fall into if you tried to sleep on the bed. read more

We checked in to find that someone was in the room already. We were changed to another room and next day I found out that we had to moved to the original room that we supposed to be in. We were NOT the only one with this issue. An elderly couple got stuck in the elevator #2 while trying to check out and none of hotel workers provided help to them. They were in the 11th floor and the only elevator that goes to the 11th floor is the one elevator out-of-service. The front desk workers are not very useful they act like you're bothering them. I read a feedback about issues at check in and I thought that wasn't going to happen to me; how wrong I was! Talking to the lady that was in my room, revealed that she wasn't allowed to check in because room was unavailable and made her stay at the Ocean Key Hotel to come back the next day and find me opening her door. The room was ok with a great view. However, room need updates. Bed wasn't a queen but Full bed. When my bathroom is way better than the hotel, you'll question yourself. What I'm doing here? and wasn't a cheap stay either. Manager is not a competent one or do not care! I've been in the military for more than 20 years and managed many teams/facilities/programs and this is unacceptable. Her reply was... "If we let go people we can't hire new ones back". How about train your staff and make them accountable!! DO NOT STAY HERE!!! Do not commit the mistake that I made!! You're going to find just headaches in here! read more

No, this isn't what some people call a five-star resort, but I do. It's clean, I'm not lacking ONE thing, the view is AMAzing, and it's $65 a night on off-season. Free WiFi! Free Parking! Balcony. Kitchen, closet, and dresser, which I insist on, and quiet. There's a pool, exercise room... What more could I want? Oh, you want more!!!! How 'bout viewing horses walking on the beach from the balcony. Dolphins a few hundred feet off the beach. And whales! Yes, whales! Humpback whales not a hundred yards off the beach. An entire pod of them. I definitely recommend Ocean Sands Resort, as it's nearly centrally located on the strip of beach, walking distance to anything you need, and yet, so quiet. I'll definitely be back! read more

Ideal location for our first visit to Virginia Beach! Right in the middle of things, boardwalk and beach are right out back door. Every room in the place has a ocean view, stay in the tower and get up as high as possible if you can and you can watch the beach day and night from a birds eye view. Watch all the people walking and jogging the boardwalk if your a people watcher. Its also nice to watch the horses walk and run down the beach. The resort has a free tanning bed, for those off season months or whenever you want to use it, just bring your eye protection or buy the sticker ones they have for 50 cents. Free washer and dryers on certain floors to do your laundry anytime you want. Walgreens is one block away. The kitchen in the unit is very accommodating. The living room/dining area has a TV and the bedroom also has one. 1 Bedroom unit is very spacious for 2 people, it does have a pull out bed in the sofa so a few kids would be OK but I wouldn't suggest 4 adult for the room although depending on what you want to spend and if you aren't too picky it can be done, especially if you are out most of the day enjoying in the beaches and clubs and just using room to pass out LOL. We had a wonderful week here, I do have to mention the jets who fly past pretty much all day...you do get used to them but they are loud at first when you first arrive and aren't accustomed to them. The up points are the ocean view, the sound of the waves all day and night when you leave the windows open, the convienience of the full kitchen and dishware/appliances the unit has to offer. Everything on the strip is within walking distance even the grocery store..... although walking back with more that one bag of groceries it is best to take a cab which was a $7-8 ride. Front desk staff was very helpful and the resort was clean and we had a very nice experience, would certainly visit this resort again. This resort has two other sister resorts one is way down the strip on the low end around 5th street (I cant remember name, but its where the timeshare presentations are held) and the Atruim which is off the strip. But this one is by far the best. read more

AVOID Ocean Sands Resort (and their sister property Ocean Key Resort) at all costs. I booked an ocean front room with a balcony for a weekend in May. Upon arriving at Ocean Sands Resort on the day of my reservation, I was informed that my reservation was TRANSFERRED to their sister hotel. I received ZERO communication about this change in advance. In addition, the sister hotel is not ocean front, which is the main reason I chose Ocean Sands to begin with, and it is not centrally located. I don't understand how they can change the service that is being provided with ZERO advance notice. I had to speak to several front desk representatives and two of them were terribly unhelpful and were acting like the situation wasn't an issue. Finally I spoke to a representative who informed me that I could cancel and receive a refund, which is the route I decided to go with, however it's been weeks and STILL NO REFUND. Would definitely avoid this place at all costs. I had to book a new hotel at the last minute, spending $300+ more than I originally planned to. read more

This place does not look like much but it is our new staycation from home! I enjoyed our 1 night and wished we could have a sitter for 2! The staff was so friendly and prompt. The pool and the jacuzzi are awesome, so quaint though the jacuzzi needs to be bigger BUT the pool really is warm! Our room felt like a luxury, the kitchen is something you could use for days and make food in. The bed and linens were amazing and the location and the views were worth every penny. There is something of everything literally within minutes from the resort. Such a great deal. such a great time. read more

We stayed here three nights for a leisurely trip through memory lane. Our relationship started in Virginia Beach 26 years ago. We had never stayed right on the beach like this in warm weather. Being right on the beach was amazing!! It was great to have a kitchen to store leftovers in a fridge. The dishes were in the dishwasher clean, so if you can't find dishes, look there. The suite was clean and comfortable. It wouldn't have been big enough had we brought our young adult kids, but it was perfect for just the two of us. We would definitely stay there again! read more

I was gifted a stay at this resort for my birthday from a friend. The resort itself was decent but the reason for the four stars is because it is very dated. This place is not very nice at all. The good reviews must be from the owners' friends and employees because the amenities are old and warn out. This place should net be called a "resort", but rather a larger style motel. We came here for a wedding and only needed a few days, so they're penalizing us with a $64 cleaning fee. That fee mustn't get used because we found ants in our room upon checking in (just 5, but still) and there was hair on the bathroom floor behind the door. I will say the HVAC systems are great but other than that, stay away. Also, the upgraded internet wifi they charge for is only 1mbs. Hilarious. Just stay elsewhere. I will. read more

This is by far the best hotel we have ever stayed in !!!! Friendly staff super clean rooms and halls ! Great location amazing price ! Everything about this place makes you not wanna leave and it feels right at home read more

First of all this is a time share and not a hotel. So don't expect the services you would normally get in a hotel - for e.g. they won't clean and change your bed linens daily, although you can get extra towels if you run out of the ones they gave you in the beginning. This place may not be the most upscale joint on VA Beach's Atlantic Ave, but its pretty decent...especially for the price we paid. We had a 2 room unit with 2 bathrooms, a little kitchen and a balcony. The rooms were pretty spacious, clean, well equipped(TVs, good lighting, fans, A/C, vacuum cleaner, ironing board, etc. etc.) and yes...ocean facing. The beds are decent - the bedroom had a double and the living room had a pull out (double) sofa which was actually not too bad and the kids didn't mind sleeping on it at all. The kitchen appliances were a bit dated but no biggie - we cooked breakfast almost daily, and one dinner meal, during our 5 day stay, apart from making snacks, tea and coffee. The folks at the front desk are pretty decent and friendly...didn't face any issues dealing with them apart from the known quirks with timeshares. The parking is pretty tight, and if you come in way late in the evening there is a chance that you won't find any and you'll most probably be sent to their backup parking unit at the Atrium timeshare - couple of blocks away. There are only 2 elevators and they're pretty tiny and won't take more than 6 people - we used the stairs pretty frequently. In a nutshell the place is a steal, yes its a timeshare and people cook in here and sometimes you'll smell the aroma of the various cooking genres, but I'll return to this place in a heart beat if we decide to go back to VA beach in the upcoming years. read more

This is not a resort, it's a time share that is honestly a motel. If you want a fun in the sun, beach vacation do not stay here. The rooms are old, out dated and gross. I was hesistant to even take a shower in the bathroom. The pool is not as clean as it should be considering the false advertisements and great reviews listed on here. I got out after seeing stuff floating around in the water and green stuff around the pool. There are better options than this place, don't waste your money. read more

I just returned from a four-day, three-night stay at the Ocean Sands. All in all, I liked it. But I also found some areas that called out for improvement. Let's go over the pros and cons: Pros: Location is right smack on the beach! Walk out the back door, and you are there. The view is FABULOUS! You can see a huge stretch of beach plus the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean coming together. I loved watching the dolphins cavort every morning. If you're lucky enough to be located on one of the upper floors, as I was, you will be eye level with pelicans and seagulls as they fly by. They look close enough to touch! Amenities! I took advantage of the indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and weight room. Free laundry facilities! As in, no coins needed. Just show up with your laundry and some detergent. This was a huge help to me, as I ran out of clothes to wear and needed to run an emergency load. Friendly, helpful staff! Ok, now for the cons: As many other posters have mentioned, there are no balconies. The funny thing was, I didn't notice their absence at first, probably because I was swept away by the view. The front entrance needs to have an automatic door! It's a hassle to have to hold the door open while you're struggling to negotiate a luggage-laden trolley. There is only one elevator for the whole building, which would be okay if the staff didn't need to utilize it. I felt bad for them as they struggled to squeeze gurnies and other equipment into the elevator without crashing into guests. There needs to be a service elevator to make their lives easier. I enjoyed my time at the Ocean Sands and hope to return someday. read more

So we got a great deal for a room there for 6 days. The room has a queen bed and a couch with a pull out bed. The room was spacious and has a kitchen with a working stove, all the pots, pans, utensils and a dishwasher. There is supposed to be a indoor pool with a gym and other amenities however all of the amenities were closed during our visit. We were notified three days before our vacation that the pool was being fixed and would open on our third day of our trip. When the third day came they notified us that the pool would not be working until next week when our vacation was over. The hotel all in all was nice and I was very pleased with the room. The only thing that was very weird was the fact that there was no housekeeping. We were there for 6 days and after day four I asked if housekeeping comes at all and they said that if you need anything just call the front desk and they'll have someone bring it up however if you want the room clean that's going to be an extra fee. I thought that was strange being that housekeeping is not something that you pay for. The staff was very friendly and very accommodating. I'm guessing the reason that the pool and all the amenities were close was more due to Covid than anything. The hotel was literally right on the beach so every day we were able to come from our room and just walk to the beach. Other than the fact that the amenities were out of order I had a very good experience. read more
