I stayed for the week after Labor Day and have stayed there several times over the decades. My rating is high b/c of the front desk. They were honest about the renovations being much needed and taking time. They are also very open to suggestions for improvement as their goal is to make each stay enjoyable. The NEW ELEVATOR is so much better. The SUPPORT STAFF were friendly and quick to help. The fact that each room has a fFULL KITCHEN allows families to enjoy the ocean w/o having to eat out all the time. Bottom line, each person can decide if they prefer friendly client-forward service or corporate plastic smile service. I, for one, appreciate the management's focused efforts to take a different path from the previous management. Their vision cannot happen overnight. Their attitude was an overnight change from the previous management. I am looking forward to next year's stay! read more

Emailed ahead that id arrive early when I arrived they told me it'd be a few hours, when I came back they said "oh yeah we got it cleaned a while ago".....ook? room felt like I was at my grandparents so pretty cozy. Would've been awesome told that construction was going on, what goes great with panoramic ocean front views? the loud BBBBRRRRRRRRRRR of power tools and yelling. If you get a room up high, take the stairs, the elevator takes FOREVER and occasionally stops at random floors so get your steps in. Laundry room is $2 in quarters to wash and $1 to dry use the soda machine by the room to make change since there's no change maker and the only laundry room is on the 2nd Floor, so if your top floor, forget that elevator. If you're looking for a place to rest and shower? it's ok if you're on vacation it's mehhh and not really worth the price to be honest. read more

This hotel needs major updates, the parking garage is horrible it's too small for current vehicles. For the money charged we could have stayed at the Hilton lesson learned read more

so far the staff has been very helpful and nice. definitely needs updating. in this day and age you expect to have usb plugs , most hotels that are not "resorts " provide shampoo, lotion, body wash etc. even a holiday inn provides that . only first day of 5 we will see how it goes read more

I never leave reviews because I never have that much time on my hands but I think I will this one time. First we got a call on the way there from them and found out the elevator was broken and they only have one elevator which I mean is not that big of a problem except it was tiring carrying the luggage up 20 flights of stairs to the 10th floor to our room. But my issue with the elevator being broke is they didn't offer any kind of discount or coupon or next time or nothing like all the guests could have easily said screw this and went to another hotel they need to be more appreciative. Then the elevator wasn't fixed until literally the last night we were there. The elevator service company needs to work harder at getting the service completed and the manager of the resort needs to put that pressure on them. Especially if you have elderly guests and guests in wheelchairs. My other observation I noticed was the hotel needs to be under new management or new maintenance people or new cleaning people one of the three. The room was good for the price and it was clean and I loved the kitchen and everything but there was just little things guests will notice when they stay there like: -broken/dirty light switches -broken wall outlets -moldy shower curtain -didn't use jets in tub because it smelt like mold -the mattress sank in the middle I'm not complaining about these things I listed it's just stuff I noticed that could be improved. The thing I'm most mad about is 1. The parking is way too tight because all the parking is literally in a parking garage that was literally designed for a little smart car. If you drive a truck like I do or even a good size suv you can not go past the first floor because the turns on both ramps are way too tight. So tight that it took me 30 minutes to figure how to get to the top floor and I also scratched my truck the wall coming back down. The reason I even went to the top floor was because the big rude woman that worked the front desk at night came out when I was parking on the bottom floor one night and rudely told me I had to park on the top floor because my truck stuck out a little bit. Ok? That's not my problem that's your problem and the dumb asses that designed your parking garage? I shouldn't have listened to her I know but I tried to do what they wanted but I'll never do that again. Then when we were leaving on the last day I was parked next to a wall so I had to pull up so my wife could get in and another big front desk lady with a nose ring came out and got mouthy with me and asked "what is all of this about?" Because I was waiting for my wife to get in the truck. By this point I was pissed off by how rude they were and I gave her attitude right back and she wobbled back inside. I would recommend other people to stay there but I'd definitely tell them how our experience was. It was a really good room for the price but the negatives out weighs the positives unfortunately. read more

This is a horrible place to travel. I tried communicating with the manager and lady at the service desk about a concern. Very poor customer service read more

Pretty good in total! Good... Price, location, amenities, staffs, size, service, swimming pool, free bike rental, no parking fee Bad... No tea, coffee, shampoo, conditioner,... I got mysterious bug bites and went to ER. Doctors could tell what kind of bug. I had a bad luck here then because I have a sensitive skin condition. Nobody got this issue besides me. So I recommend this hotel to the people who doesn't have any medical issues like me. read more

This resort can a use a renovation, but the room was a nice size & clean. The view was gorgeous, the kitchen was well stocked & the staff was professional & friendly. The only downside is the parking garage is tight and there is only one elevator, but I would definitely stay here again. read more

We got this place through RCI. The view and its location just steps from the beach are the redeemable factors. Safety is a concern. Anyone can walk up to your room until 11pm, when access door towards elevator gets locked. We came back from the beach this afternoon and found our door was left ajar. My husband blamed an inexperienced housekeeper and not to say anything. We went out for an hour returned before 10pm and found a couple knocking ar our door. After approaching them, they asked if this was our room. We confirmed and they just shrugged and said they must have the wrong hotel. Weird. Will report this tomorrow a.m. and will request no more housekeeping until we check out. We would have overlooked the need for a good deep cleaning or the updating of fixtures (fridge and electric stove) but feeling unsafe twice on the same day, never happened to us before. read more

Just stayed here for the first time January 2024 after many years of my last stay. I took my husband on a mini getaway weekend from all our chaos at our home in Norfolk. I will say Brandon at the front desk was the best customer service person I have ever had to deal with. Kind, funny, caring and very understanding to my wants for this stay. We had the best time with the hot tub , 2 room suite and a beautiful view of the ocean from our 2 balconies. Sunset was beautiful and sunrise was breathtaking. One flaw I didn't care for was the this particular type bed. Nice and big but one mattress on a wire bouncy frame. I do feel like hotel beds will never measure up to your own bed at home. So we dealt with it. Restaurants in the area were perfect! Doughboys across the street had phenomenal staff. Great drinks and friendly people. Will be coming back one day. Thank you Brandon for all your help. read more

Quiet, pleasant staff. Bed comfortable too. Convenient to the beach, safe to take walk with wife and children.

So very surprised at this place. It's an older hotel but to walk in to an oceanfront suite with a full kitchen and a separate bedroom. Didn't make it to the pool but got to see fireworks and sunrise from the balcony. The parking deck is pretty tight but managed to maneuver around. Staff was very friendly the whole time. The cafe downstairs was delicious also! read more

The location and rooms are great but they allow smoking in the rooms and on the balconies. So the smoke gets sucked into everyone's rooms if you have your balcony door open. It's a constant exposure to second hand smoke which really ruins the experience. read more

Let's go with the pros: Excellent location Excellent view (Oceanfront) Like having a one bedroom/Kitchen/balcony Free bike rental Cafe downstairs is good for breakfast Beach accessories Friendly staff Cons: First and foremost for me-the bed must be comfortable. This bed didn't give at all when you sat on it. It was more comfortable lying on the beach than the bed. Outdated and uncomfortable living room furniture. Pool is inside not facing the beach (on backside) Sundeck is not on the floor with the pool-again not facing the beach (on backside). This forces you to stay all day directly on the beach if you want to see the ocean. Needs a deep cleansing. It's clean for "home" standards but not for hotel standards. Corridors have old carpet, dirt around light switches and all over the elevator door. One elevator for 14 floors and it is slow. For me, rate is high but had no choice on late cancellation. read more

Not the most updated, but room was very clean and had everything we needed including a full kitchen with dishes and appliances. View of the ocean was great! Private balcony was perfect! I would absolutely stay again. My only complaint is with the hotel restaurant. Ate there for lunch, food was good, drinks were good, service was excellent! After having lunch, we went out on the beach. Our bottled water started to get warm, so we went into the restaurant and asked an employee if it was possible to get 2 cups of ice to go in a plastic cup. She was very friendly and said sure. As she was getting the ice, another employee kept looking in our direction. she then came over and said that we would need to pay 25 cents per cup. That turned me off, especially because we were staying at the resort and ate with them. read more

We purchased a one bedroom time share here and have enjoyed the property. The location is perfect on the north end of VA Beach and is located in a popular area with lots of popular stores, bars and restaurants that are convenient. The location has been updated and is modern on the inside. They have a small hotel style gym, internet, fully furnished rooms with all the needed amenities. The building is a little older but well maintained. Probably one of the best assets is the outstanding customer service. They have always been helpful with anything my family has needed for our stay. Overall it a great place to stay with reasonable rates, great staff and fully furnished rooms. read more

We have had condo here since the 80s. Always a welcoming location with good sized rooms and great sea views. The bonus over last few years is that this has become the hot area on the beach and now four sails is right in he middle of it. read more

This was quite the surprise. The room had a stove, big fridge, silverware, massive tub and a pretty view. It is actually a little apartment, not just a room, which was such a nice surprise. They also let you borrow bike for free for one hour and everyone was really nice. Our maid wasn't the best and the bed and pillow were not the greatest, if it wasn't for that this place would've gotten 5 stars. read more

Even writing this review is making me angry with all the BS I have had to deal with because they messed up and charged the wrong card twice for my two night stay on top of charging the card that it was all originally suppose to go on for one of the nights. I had put my debit card down to hold the room. When I checked In to the hotel the boy (who was clearly new) asked if I would like to use the card on file or if I would like to pay another way. I handed him my Citi Credit Card and said I would like all of my stay to be placed on my Credit Card. Low and behold I check my Debit and my Credit Card that night and one night stay had been placed on the Debit Card and the Second night stay had been placed on my Citi Credit Card. No big deal. What done was done and everything was fine. The day I checked out, once I got home I checked by Debit Card account and they had charged my Debit Card again! So how at this point I am freaking out.considering I had already set my finances up for it to be all taken out of my Credit Card. The next day I called and they assured me that the one transaction on my Debit Card was just a pre authorization and the money should just stay in pending and be back on my card at the end of the week.... WRONG!!!! So needless to say I overdraft in my debit card account. On the 9th of Aug. it will be a month I have been dealing with this. I got a new card and disclaimed the second double charge on my Debit Card. The Citi Credit Card it still in pending. Financially they screwed me up so bad and then now this being three weeks later the manager Daphne never said sorry before I said y'all owe me a apology. I said this has been such an awful experience and y'all have messed me up because the guys at the front desk charged the wrong card... I think some compensation is needed for all this inconvenience and she has the audacity to tell me she doesn't see where there is any needed!!!!!! Awful awful experience. I tell her that she can go ahead and charge to the card that was already charged for the second night stay to the Citi Credit Card and now she calls and she needs my help to get it from holding.... Ma'am if y'all did your job right the first time it wouldn't even be in holding and none of this would be happening. But hahaha as long as they get there money back it's cool. I've been without it this long ... you can wait to..... The hotel it's self was awesome beautiful rooms great view but when it come to Customers Care and taking responsibility for their actions it's a Zero!!! Never want to deal with them again! read more

I'm currently still staying here, I like it! Staff is friendly and they have an indoor pool...I just wish it was a bit bigger and they had a hot tub but each room has a jacuzzi type tub. It was very clean and I enjoy having a Kitchen to cook in. It's on the boardwalk which is a big plus. read more

Stayed here in mid September. The weather was perfect. We shut the a/c off and left the sliding doors open the whole time. Listening to the ocean was beautiful. WiFi was good. We used the free bike rental and rode the boardwalk. There are no planned activities, but who needs it with the ocean right there. Loved walking the beach every morning. Even spotted some dolphins. Only one elevator, which made for a wait sometimes, especially during check out time. read more

Great for the price and the view. I had a late check in - 1a.m. and a 10a.m. check out. We requested a 2 queen bed room, but ended up getting put in a king sized bed room, but it had a pull out in the living room. The tiny kitchen was convenient for someone staying longer. There was a jacuzzi bathtub but it didn't function properly which was a bummer - but other than that, really nice place to stay with friendly staff. read more

I just love Four Sails. We have been coming down for years from NY and each year we basically see the same staff. Not much turnover (great sign). I love the hard work and effort put in by the staff to make sure the guest have a terrific time. Also, I love bingo and every Thursday night is bingo night, yeah. I loved this place, spoke to a lady on phone last nite named Sherry I think. I didn't book it at first because I don't usually splurge on oceanfront rooms and that's all they had. I called back later after learning other hotels near beach were booked at about $40 less a price. I decided I was going to treat myself and be on the beach today vs driving all the way back to Richmond after DMB show. Anyway such a great awesome room w kitchen. It was way more than I needed but waaaaay worth it. Close to everything and the rom was clean and pretty updated! So gracious ;) read more

Loved the separate bedroom and living room/kitchen, both with great views of the beach and ocean. It was very clean. Very clean, spacious room. Free bikes available to hotel stayers! Great location. Would stay again!

We are timeshare owners and traded in for a week, 2nd week of September just after the summer peak. Very nice King suite (living room, full kitchen, whirlpool bath and King bedroom with Oceanside balconies (living room and bedroom) more like an apartment than a room. Awesome beach & boardwalk views. You step out of the building onto the boardwalk. The building is older (and shows it age just to set expectations) but maintained and the suite we had was updated, clean, well-stocked and real nice to stay in. Daily trash and towels pickup. Parking garage is tight but workable, free bicycles, beach chairs, and beach umbrellas are available, DVD rentals, single computer workstation in the lobby for shared use and FREE WIFI in the rooms. Single elevator, there is a restaurant on location. Awesome location, we walked to everything. Indoor pool, sauna, fitness room, city view sun deck, laundry room. The staff are very helpful, friendly and there to serve you. John checked us in and made us feel really welcome and got us off to a great start with everything we needed and answers for everything. He has quite a personality and made our visit memorable. Kudos to John. This place was a pleasant surprise and we diffidently plan on coming back. read more

I stayed here this past weekend and it was an ok hotel. The setup was nice. The fact that they had a full kitchen was amazing (and the reason I booked this hotel). The views from both balconies was fantastic and I really appreciated it. The staff was also really nice and even recommended a restaurant in the area, which was delicious. The hotel was a little basic other than the full kitchen and tub (kinda shallow and jets a little misplaced for my taste). However, the reason I only gave the hotel a 3 is the bed. HORRIBLE!! The first night I woke up with my back in horrible pain. The bed was so hard it didn't move when I laid on it. The person who was with me ended up sleeping on the couch (as a couch, the sofa bed was even worse) as it was more comfortable. I would have complained and moved rooms if I had a longer stay, but we only stayed two nights and had already unpacked and it was a pain to move. To be honest, I'd spend more money to stay at a nicer hotel with a real bed. Also they REALLY need to update/fix their only elevator. read more

After planning a birthday trip at another resort and being told by that resort I had to find somewhere else to go because of "storm damage" I found this resort on Yelp with NO HELP from the original resort. Original resort was Oceanaire. I should have known it was going to be a bad experience when I could NEVER get anyone on the phone when I tried calling and when I could they were completely clueless and said "Uhm" more than anything else. I say "storm damage" because I used to work for this company and I know the excuses management would come up with when they simply over booked the resort and had no rooms available for guests to stay in. But four sails? LOVED IT!!! Called four sails and someone picked up almost immediately and was SO helpful. I want to say her name is Cheryl but I could be wrong. She was the sweetest and made me immediately want to stay here. The view is amazing and that's one of things that mattered most to me and my boyfriend. The room is nice for the price with basically a full sized kitchen and living room with a double wide ocean front balcony view. Free parking and wifi. The parking garage is a TIGHT fit. Which really isn't a complaint for us but might be for some. The vending machine is virtually completely empty and the ice machine has no ice but this is cute and charming to me and my boyfriend as we are pretty laid back and tend to laugh at things like that. There's also a cafe attached that we're going to try for breakfast on our last day here. We haven't heard a single noise from anyone above or beside us which is really nice to us as we know this resort is fully booked. There is a nice sized jetted tub which fits both of us comfortably. The staff is incredibly friendly and willing to help you which is a huge bonus for us as we do like to feel welcome and not as a nuisance. The only thing that would make this a 5 star for us is an outdoor pool as sometimes we just don't want to deal with sand. All in all we loved it and will be back! read more
