Up until about a week ago I had never walked into Ocean Rainbow, although I had always been curious about trying their ice cream and etc. I'm pleased to say, it was delicious! I had the water-based coconut popsicle. With each bite, it took me back to a nostalgic time when I used to live in Mexico and eat those after a day at the park with my cousin. OMG...to my surprise OCEAN RAINBOW has been CLOSED by the Health Dept for Vermin infestation as of today 01/02/15. I wanted my fruit salad and mangoniada. I really like this place but not sure if I can come back once it opens. Just the thought of rats running around all nights freaks me out!!! My kids love this place. I think they are a silly for making you pay 50 cents to wear a mask in their store. They charge 50cents for credit cards under 10.00$ which is a little crazy too. I would go to handles if I'm going to get ice cream for 20$. read more

We each got something different and only one thing was consistent, they all tasted like chemicals. Like all the items had a touch of fabulousa added to it. And the one by the taco place off emerald has good agua frescas, but this location was so bad. The agua fresca was overly sugary without the fruit flavor. It had chunks of fruit but we tried the fruit and it was hard. The ice cream we got was a cross of freezer burn and chemical. The milkshake was just a simple chocolate yet tasted so bad, again like freezer burn and a cleaning chemical product. The other ice cream we got was also not good, same issue. 0/4. We all agree, we will never repeat. Our friends all got items and they were disappointed as well. We took it to go so to be fair we didn't complain to the workers. They seemed very aggravated while we were there so not sure if alerting them would have helped. The taste can't be helped. Needs cleaned out and fresh ice cream put in its place. I wonder if they just spray cleaned and it got on all the ice cream. I don't know but like I said we all agreed it all tasted chemically. Except for the agua fresca. It did not taste like cleaning product at all. But maybe the fruit was hard and not ripe so they added a lot of sugar to compensate. That's what it seemed like. Maybe don't make that flavor of the fruit is not up to standards. Floors were sticky but one little table was cleared. Chairs were not cleaned though. We didn't stay, workers seemed aggravated so not an environment we wanted to hang out in. Maybe they'd had a lot of customers that day and were tired maybe. So I'm not assuming they are always stressed and aggravated. They were just during the time we were there. And there was three families of us all ordering so a lot of orders. I think there were 4 workers at the time so plenty to share the load. We did three different orders too, to give them a break in between. So 4 items, 3 items, 5 items.

There were 3 employees and two were standing around while one worked. A customer who came in after me got his order, and all employees were just standing around. I went to the counter and asked if I had been forgotten. 2 of the employees got to work on my order. The only young woman working there was on her phone and handling food with the same gloves. I said excuse me, to her and pointed out that she had been on her phone and handled food in without getting new gloves. She looked at me and said, "So do you want me to change my gloves?" I replied "yes, it's a sanitation issue. I have worked in the industry and taught restaurant management." She changed gloves, cut off the edges of the Taiyaki waffle she had touched with the other gloves, finished my dish, and slid my finished dish across the counter. She said nothing as she slid the dish of taiyaki towards me, and turned and walked away from the counter. The restaurant had an "A" rating, but the cross contamination issue of handling personal phone and food with the same gloves, is not "A" rating behavior. It was close to closing and I do understand that it was getting late. It is still very disappointing. The restaurant did appear to be clean in the customer area. As I watched all 3 employees, the gentlemen working showed safe and sanitary work behaviors. I hope this cross contamination behavior by the female employee gets corrected.
