What can I say, other than I'm overly pleased that I stumbled across City Beach. In an area overrun…read morewith private beaches, this is by far your best public beach option in the West Palm Beach area. It may be a little out of the way, but it is worth the trek. There is ample free parking available in the shopping center adjacent to the beach. Said shopping center also provides many food and drink options. The beach itself is enormous, and even at its most crowded you don't find yourself stumbling over people to find a spot. There's a small line of palm trees towards the back where you can steal some free shade from the glaring Florida sun. If those spots are taken they offer chair, umbrella and chair/tent/canopy rental options. I believe I heard $28 for the day for a 2 chair/canopy combo, but don't quote me on it. The water is clear, clean and amazing. The beach itself is also very clean, with soft sand and a plethora of seashells lying about. Lifeguards are on duty, but not too overzealous. There are also bathrooms, and showering facilities available. Do yourself a favor- if you're looking for a public beach in the vicinity, make this your destination. Thank me later.

Some different friends who also Disc Golf had said it was one of the best courses around so I finally felt the urge to make it up there. The open a little early which is nice too. Entering the park is impressive in itself. There are so mnay things going on from a large lake spanning waterpark, wildlife all over, a BMX park that's a good size, and of course, the disc course. The things some had said that was obvious immediately, is that the place had far more rolling hills than any park or place in South Florida. I started off at the top of a hill and had to through down to the bottom of the hill. There were shots later where I had to throw over a pond and up a hill. From the elevation changes to the great forest and water holes, it really was worth the drive. Heck, I've been back 2 more times this month already.

During the COVID lockdown, walking the trails became my favorite pastime. Especially as a pregnant woman looking for peace and fresh air, lol. Years later, those same trails are still a favorite activity for my son and me. More recently, I've taken up disc golf and was excited to find out the group I joined regularly plays at the Okeeheelee course. It's been such a fun and engaging experience! Just yesterday, I attended a picnic at one of the park's pavilions, and it was wonderful. The swings and playground next to the pavilion made it perfect for a family-friendly event. The space provided plenty of seating and shade, so everyone could enjoy themselves without being overwhelmed by the heat. There's still so much of this park I haven't explored yet, and I genuinely look forward to continuing to visit for years to come.

As well, this park has barbecue grills, a large playground, picnic tables and picnic shelters that can be reserved and rented. A small Veterans Memorial is located at the entrance to the park. The park also has a 1/3-mile concrete path that winds around a small lake with a floating fountain. The playground is quite large and has a soft mulch base and some sailcloth cover for a little bit of shade. The benches face the Intracoastal and I sat here for a bit to enjoy the waterside. This park is located on the west side of the intracoastal on Atlantic Ave in Delray Beach. It…read moreserves as a memorial for veterans of foreign wars. In the corner of the park is a sign commemorating the historic Atlantic Avenue Crossing over the intracoastal waterway. Close to Atlantic Ave is a beautiful sea life mosaic fountain. Park amenities include a huge gazebo that must be rented in order to be used, meeting rooms, restrooms, barbecue grills, benches, bicycle rack, memorials to the the veterans, and a pirate ship themed playgrounds for the kids. There is a huge green area where the city can hold events like the art fair that was being held during my visit. The real highlight of the park is the gorgeous view of the intracoastal waterway. It's such a relaxing spot to sit and watch the bridge open and close as the beautiful boats glide down the waterway. If you are looking for a place to stroll after dinner on Atlantic Ave this is the perfect place to come and take in the picturesque view.

Knowles is a small park that is between Federal Highway and the Intracoastal Waterway. There is…read morefree parking and a boat launch. The park also has a small playground, restrooms, picnic tables, and a grill. The boat ramp is very popular and so mainly boaters use this park. The park is open every day from dawn to dusk. Knowles Park is a good place to view the annual Boynton & Delray Beach Holiday Boat Parade held annually in mid December. Decorated boats travel in the Intracoastal Waterways throughout Boynton Beach, and Delray Beach to the C-15 canal. What drew my eye to the park and caused me to stop was a large sculpture called Knowles Knot that sits along Federal Highway. The Public Art Advisory Board allowed the public to vote on the name. Knowles Knot was created by Brooklyn based artist John Clement. The bright red sculpture is made of 8 inch steel pipe. Looping spirals stand 44 feet tall, 12 feet wide, and 20 feet long. The sculpture was installed in the park in March of 2008.

Palm Beach County's Environment…read moreResource Management Team has rehabilitated this 118 acre area and now it is home to hundreds of birds as well as marine life. Manatees are returning to the area as well. As part of the clean up effort 11 acres of mangroves were planted and two oyster beds were created that that clean up the lagoon by filtering out the water. Four islands were made from fill taken from Peanut Island. Wildlife that has been spotted include the American oystercatcher, Common snook, green sea turtle, and West Indian manatee. There is a 545 foot long boardwalk and observation platform that provides a beautiful view of the lagoon. There is also a 590-foot long fishing pier. There is a small lot for launching your canoe or kayak. You can't park here even though it is close to the boardwalk and fishing pier. Parking is down the street at Bryant Park and you have to walk up past the golf course. I was told that if you attempt to park in the water craft launch area you will be ticketed or towed. Other amenities include two bicycle racks, educational kiosks and three benches. This natural area runs along the base of the bridge. This area is ecologically important as well as beautiful. I saw so many birds on one the man islands off the coast. Although you can see from the boardwalk and fishing pier I feel the best way to experience this area would be by kayak. I plan to rent one in the area as soon as the weather cools down a bit.

This place has a long wooden walkway making a giant…read morecircle throigj the park, allowing you to go on a nice little walk filled with tons of creatures doing their own thing, oblivious of the humans meandering about. I was very happy to see very few instances of litter and pollution inside the park. It was very clean. Everyone here on this particular day was very courteous, and it wasn't crowded on a holiday. Like birding? This spot is for you. The avian influence is strong in this park. The trees are filled with nests of cheerful, impatient, and angry birds. The glades have little chicks hopping around, looking for food, or taking bath. Mother ducks leading their flock, and Great Blue Herons majestically creeping around. There are plenty of iguanas climbing around looking for easy snacks in the branches, and you'll see some really big ones just wandering the open pathways too. And when you're lucky, there's a gator or two soaking about. I'd get there early, because it can get hot later in the day, and parking can be a limiting factor.
