This place is such a hidden gem in Delray Beach! Wakodahatchee Wetlands is packed with wildlife, and the boardwalk trail makes it easy to soak it all in without disturbing the natural habitat. On my recent visit, there were so many wood storks nesting!! I spotted babies peeking out of nests, along with adults perched on eggs. It felt like stepping into a real-life nature documentary. Beyond the storks, I also saw a marsh rabbit, anhingas, several types of ducks, and even a Great Blue Heron just casually doing its thing. What makes this spot even cooler is that the wetlands are man-made, but they've become a thriving ecosystem--proof that nature finds a way when given the chance. It's free to visit, and there's plenty of parking. Even when it looks full, just be patient--spots open up quickly with people coming and going. The full loop is about ¾ of a mile, with a few covered seating areas along the way if you want to pause and take it all in. Definitely wear a hat, bring water, and don't forget your camera--you'll want it. If you live in or are visiting Palm Beach County, this is 100% worth checking out. Beautiful park. It's about 4000 steps to walk around. Two plus around and you can get your daily number ! While we didn't see any alligators, we did see beautiful iguanas, birds and vegetation! We had family and friends come visit us. The weather was perfect for a day outdoors in nature. There was a short line for parking but it was free and only took around 5-10 minutes wait. This was our first time visiting this wetlands and we had an enjoyable experience. We spent about an hour here. Seeing all the wildlife was awesome, very serene environment. read more

Beautiful day for a walk here. The wood storks are building nests and some are expanding the homes. Some babies are here and they're hungry. . Some beautiful tricolored heron blue eggs are here. The anhinga is drying her wings. Some cattle egrets are shopping for building materials. Others have their coffee breaks. The sounds of nature are here and the birds are singing. The iguanas are sunning. The trees are starting to fill with beautiful green leaves to protect those baby birds. All glory to our creator for this marvelous park. read more

This place is great. Walkway paths are outlined and you get to see some nice birds. Not a ton of shade so choose the day you go wisely. Also the day we went, parking took a while as there is someone directing traffic and he only lets you in when spots open up so parking is limited. It's free entry and parking is also free. It's not a long walk so don't expect to be there all day... maybe an hour but worth coming as it's relaxing to stroll through some nature. read more

It was a beautiful day to explode the wetlands. A parking attendant directed vehicles into both lots & security officers walked along the boardwalk. We followed the boardwalk passing egrets, turtles, cormorants, alligators, iguanas...There were many bird calls & sounds. Birders had binoculars while photographers had large fancy lenses & seniors had walkers. Besides benches and lots of garbage receptacles , water fountains, clean well stocked, restrooms, there were places to park bicycles. read more

Not as many birds as when I have been previous but time of year and time of day likely having to do with that. Still a good place to see and observe birds, alligators, iguanas and any other animal that may be there. Friendly people and also good people watching. You never know if you will see someone from back home here. Also a good place for nature photography so if you have one, bring a good camera and a zoom lens. read more

Nice spot to walk around and look at nature/wildlife. Wish it was a longer walking path! There was a line to get in, security was managing only allowing people in once someone left, since the parking lot was full. It didn't take us long to get in, though. What a cool experience! My eight-year-old daughter and I had an hour to kill and we drove by these wetlands. Here's our experience. 1) Parking: There's a lot with free parking. We went on a Friday around 4:30pm and we snagged the last spot. The boardwalk was filled with people birdwatching. 2) Admission: It's free. 3) Wetlands: There's an almost mile long boardwalk that weaves through the wetlands with a few places with shade and trash cans. We saw turtles, heron, alligators, rabbits, lizards, ducks, iguanas, and lots of nesting egrets. read more

I absolutely love this place. I was walking here daily until I started getting sick this pregnancy. Once I feel better, I will definitely be doing that again though. If you love nature, but don't exactly love being in nature this is the place to go. This is a boardwalk walk where you are above the water and you get to observe all the wildlife. Wakodahatchee Wetlands is a beautiful, 50-acre constructed wetland located in Delray Beach on Jog Road just north of Atlantic. Weekends are busy it's free, open to the public and parking is free also. Part of the Great Florida Birding Trail and a popular spot for nature lovers, photographers, and birdwatchers, it's one of the most relaxing place to take a nice walk. This place allows a casual nature walk. The park contains a boardwalk throughout, so you can pick your pace. People are generally friendly and accommodating, like moving over and greeting others. When the birds are there nesting, the scenery is more interesting. Overall, a very nice experience that I do a couple of times a week. read more

On Wednesday morning at about 10:30 am, I took my family who was visiting up from Long Island to this lovely natural preserve. It was a first time for all of us. I realized almost immediately that it was a little too late in the morning to see more of the animals in their natural habitat. I also found out that there are better times in the year to see more. However, the walkways are easy to stroll even with a scooter and people using walkers and canes. Some of the area is sun protected by trees and gazebos. It's about a mile walk around in a circle. It's beautiful and meditative. There are also educational signs posted along the route. The parking lot is small and it's not a grand entrance for tourists. I actually questioned the unobtrusive path from this parking lot wondering if this was where we should start on our walk. I also did not see a public bathroom. - very strange for a tourist area. I would definitely return again to see more at a better time. It is definitely an amazing place to visit in the middle of our growing county with tons of stores and developments surrounding us. We have to stop and smell the roses and this would be one of the most natural places to do it. read more

5 stars park. A lot of bird. The end of this review. The rest of writing not needed. The wetland has a very friend loop wooden boardwalk for easy walking. It is about a mile long. Along the elevated boardwalk there are plenty of wetland tree just above the water. These boardwalk elevated above the water make it pleasant to enjoy. The trees next to it have a lot of birds. Difference species. They are very lively. There also wood ducks in the water make it pleasant to watch. I was surprised to see whole tree of iguanas. They are green and blended into tree branches. Difficult to find. We spot some quails on the floor. The visit may take two hours depending how you want to spent it. I would recommend early morning for bird watching since this is the best active time. There is building next to the boardwalk has restroom. read more

I absolutely love Wakodahatchee Wetlands! The full loop of the boardwalk is less than one mile around, but you could walk it many times and see something different each time! Today we saw a ton of egrets and a gator! You usually get lucky and see lots of wildlife and that's the biggest reason I love this location! It's clean, lots of designated trash spots, and security! The folks are always friendly on this trail. I love talking to everyone in the morning to see what the latest sightings may be! Maybe you'll get lucky and catch George the Gator! He's famous in these parts. Anywho, I'll always come back here. It's a great spot to get outside and explore! read more

Going for a sightseeing walk at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands is one of my favorite things to do when staying in the Delray/Boca area. There is always great wildlife to see, including alligators, birds, turtles, iguanas, and fish! Another pro is that it's free! The flat boardwalk is just under a mile, so it's very doable for families with members of all ages. However, it might be too much on a very hot day since it's almost all in the sun. I've been to Wakodahatchee a few times now, and each time it is definitely worth it and no two times is the same. It is beautiful and peaceful to go for a walk and see all the birds in the natural environment. Along with birds I also saw snapping turtles, fish, alligators, iguanas, and rabbits. The trail is only 0.7 miles long however, I typically end up spending about an hour there. Parking is limited so you might have a wait to get in however, it is worth it and typically the line moves fast. The path is fairly accessible as well, I've seen many individuals with walkers, canes, and wheelchairs there. And the trail is great for all ages, I've seen parents with babies in strollers, to toddlers all the way up to older adults. I highly recommend checking out the wetlands, plus it's free! read more

The Review: There may not be a visitor center or fancy parking lot, but don't let that cause you pause. You'll find an extensive boardwalk with a simple layout and lots of opportunities to see various wildlife from nesting birds, occasional snakes, gators, and who knows! Being free, and wheelchair accessible, it's a great way to experience the outdoors no matter how you are. There are several benches scattered throughout the walk, and the occasional gazebo. Located in Delray off Jog road, the wetland is behind/adjacent to the water treatment plant that helped create its environment. What a cool find that I never knew about despite living in Broward county for almost 25 years. It's a very easy approx. 1.3 mile boardwalk around the wetlands that goes in a circle. Very calm and serene and great for bird watching, turtle spotting, pond apple counting, and even a gator sighting. There is some free parking in front of the wetlands and a larger parking lot to the side before you get to the entrance. Definitely worth the time to check out if you are in the area. read more

This is a wonderful place to check out birds. Ten years ago Wood Storks were rarely seen here, but now they have taken over. There are still some Great Egrets, Tricolored Egrets, Snowy Egrets, and ducks, but I only saw two Great Blue Herons. There is a public bathroom across the parking lot. I like that there is no smoking or vaping allowed onsite. read more
