My friends live within walking distance so I stopped by to get fish and chips. The batter is perfect and the fish tasted yummy. I also tried the shrimp & avocado salad. It was good and boy did they give me a lot! The employees are super friendly. read more

Super tasty but pity about the service. It may be the heat but the main service counter person has some serious cranky pants on. We were told that nothing on the set menus can be changed-ok fair enough. My husband gave $50 for our meal (four tens and two fives) & was told he only gave $40. No checking the till, no customer service 101. So technically we paid $10 more for our meal which is super annoying & expensive. The food prices are rather expensive and the food is good, great, but not stupendous. I usually get the grilled fish of the day and I am rarely disappointed with it. The real charm of Ocean Foods lies in the adjoining cafe, where coffee and ice cream are served until close at 9pm. Perfect for a late night cuppa! Additionally, the cafe staff are not run off their feet and so are a pleasure to chat with as they work their coffee machine magic. read more

"The Best Fish and Chips in The universe" Is the slogan of some 29 years in the world of Fish and Chips in Drummoyne, and a slogan which beat out rival contender "Bluebells" further down Lyons Road some 15 years ago. Both were great, Ocean Foods had the edge though, and frankly still does, and has managed over some 30 years to remain relevant amid changes in dining habits of Sydneysiders, from the embarrassed days of meat and three veg (yeah it was only 30 years ago people!) through the days of Thai restaurant ubiquity in the 1990's and into today where glass, sleek lines and quality prevail. George and family pride themselves on being paragons within the community - and they are, with staff formerly coming from disadvantaged backgrounds. I'm absolutely unsure if that is still the case, but nonetheless George has done a mighty job in keeping Ocean Foods at the top of its game for so long (look above the fridges to see the awards) But I'm at a loss, and I want to mark this place both high - and a little lower than the 3 stars i've given it. why? because of the bloody-minded service that some girl gave us in the attached gelato bar where I had to ask her three (count them THREE) times for the wine we had ordered with our fish and chips next door. Low scores also for the service of late from the main fish area which hasn't been quite up there, even though churlishness was a virtue when they first opened (and I was a kid) I want to mark high for the sheer quality of the food and the sheer tour-de-force that this place represents, so unfortunately... middle of the road scores here. In Sydney, look no further than Ocean Foods for seafood, I can't recommend it more highly, and that they shop at the fish markets daily, and can fill any requested seafood easily and promptly also scores them high in my book Am I lucky to live in Drummoyne? Man Buns or as I prefer Muns are obligatory it seems. A teenager's attitude, just after you've asked them to clean their room, is also a must. As a customer it is assumed you know how this place functions. I naively bothered a staff member by attempting to order fish and chips in a fish and chip shop. I then foolishly tried to pay her and was told "YOU PAY LATER" in a tone I can only equate to soldiers being barked at by a five star general or perhaps Kim Jong-un. When I was beckoned over to receive my fish and chips I fought the urge to genderflect to being granted such an exceptional gift. With a stern glance I was told to wait while the other serf, sorry customer, to my left was served first. After waiting to receive my reward from the high priestess I was finally granted my fish and chips with exchange of some $15, which I must say was delicious. read more

Excellent seafood worth shouting for. Make sure you do and stick around to see the boys start cooking right away. Without writing things down and a bit distracted by the better looking customers you'll be lucky if they remember all of it. They can only collect cash for what they hand over in the end so you'll only have to pay for what eventually ends up in the bag. Grab your own cutlery they wont offer. Whilst in Australia I had every intention of trying out the local cuisine, but once I had "the best fish and chips in the universe" I couldn't help but go back. I know I ate at other restaurants but they just don't come to mind after our experiences at Ocean foods. Incredibly fresh fish, fried to perfection, octopus and calamari salad seasoned just right and crispy but fluffy chips keeps me dreaming of the day I go back to Drummoyne. I'll visit under the ruse of missing my mother in law but my husband will know, it's for the fish. read more

Grabbed a light lunch (that's hard when most food is deep fried) but we just limited the amount of food as the serves are huge here. We had prawn cutlets which were in a light batter and looked and tasted like inhouse made plus we had salt & pepper calamari which wasn't the best we've had and they didn't come with any dipping sauce which was a let down. read more

Went here the other day as we just moved into the area. The fish was really nice and on that particular day it was the "Tight Ass Monday" so very reasonably priced too. Will definitely have a look in the gelato shop that's connected next time too! read more

Food was great. Service by the cashier was fine. Service by the 30yr+ cook when giving recieving my order by the cook was sloppy. He took my buzzer by the tongs then dumped salt all over the tray as carelessly from high intead of just the plate. read more

I use to rave about your place to anyone who would ever ask for a recommendation about Seafood In Sydney having always gone to you with my cousins every time they travelled down from Canberra each year.. but I won't any longer. I'm 7 1/2 months pregnant and I came in at around 11am today, firstly I checked which fish I'm allowed to have for the safely of my baby. Having taken a few minutes to check the NSW safety standards website I went up to the counter to pick my purchase only to be ignored by the main cook, the lady who was standing at the counter. No more then 5 steps away from me and the 2 other cooks who came out of the kitchen, as was my elderly mother ignored who also waited patiently for 5 minutes until another elderly lady came in to the shop and their female staff member decided to serve her instead and just pretend we weren't even there. That's just terrible!! I've never encountered such atrocious customer service! We were completely ignored and ended up leaving. To add insult to injury the reason we were coming in today was to cheer my mother up after having been stuck in the hospital all morning being poked and prodded with a bunch of invasive tests. Clearly you are the wrong choice! NEVER AGAIN!!! read more
