This is the first good sushi I've had on Long Island in a very long time. Everything I had was super fresh!

place is pretty good as far as handroll spots go in long island. however, if you had omakase before i don't recommend this spot. this is a good place if you want a quick spot in long island that doesn't have complex rolls and just wanna taste simple ingredients. toro truffle handroll - around $16. super delicious bite, wish i got more sweet shrimp with cream cheese - around $16. good too, wish there was less cream cheese. wouldn't get again sushi and sashimi platter - tasted honestly very standard. nothing different from a standard ayce spot in terms of taste. comes with a tuna handroll salmon and ikura don - this was good. they give a lot of rice which helped make me fuller. only thing i wish they gave some sauce on the side, as that usually comes with seafood dons. we added a splash of soy sauce for more flavor which was fine yuzu lemonade - we got this for free by checking in on facebook! super refreshing total bill was around $85 without tip. which was expected for the items we ordered. service is nice and very quick. i loved the ambiance as it's dark and intimate with bar seating and also table seating. surprisingly left this spot feeling a good level of full, even after sharing the meal with another person. place was good for simple sushi but not sure if anything blew my mind away besides the toro truffle handroll! if you're someone with more elevated sushi experiences you're better off going to kazunori in the city. read more

This place is amazing! Handrolls are soo tasty. Warm rice, crispy seaweed and fresh fish. On top of the yummy hand rolls, they have yummy hot dishes as well. Their creamy mental udon is a must have! I'm going to do you a favor. For your next date, dinner with a friend, or anyone who loves sushi, come here, sit at the bar, and order the 6 roll Handroll set. You will get the best sushi experience long island has to offer. You'll immediately notice that this Handroll set at the bar is similar to an Omakase experience. Each Handroll is made one at a time in front of you by the sushi chef. Each Handroll is specifically selected to increase in flavor, so that each following piece does not overpower the flavors of the prior ones. That's not even mentioning the quality. I can't stress enough how incredible the quality was. Each fish exactly reminded me of my $100+ Omakase experiences in Manhattan. All while you're paying $36 for more fish since you're getting handrolls, not individual sushi pieces. First you start with salmon. Salmon is like pizza in that even when it's mediocre, it's pretty damn good still. So the salmon is good, but the yellowtail is really where it starts to shine. Perfectly piecy, just the right amount of chopped scallions, and incredible with some wasabi-soy sauce combo. The crab isn't some imitation crab, it's real blue crab meat. Fresh, tasty, and such a nice surprise considering I was expecting imitation crab. Suddenly you're hit with spicy tuna. Now spicy tuna is like general tsos chicken. Not authentic to Asia and an American invention, but delicious nonetheless. But when I say you haven't had spicy tuna like this, I mean it. I just can't describe it. It's just good. Raw scallops are always delicious, but usually received in small portions so when there was just as much scallop as fish in the other rolls, consider me surprised. Lobster is lobster. Delicious, but by the time you get it, you're looking at the board behind the bar thinking about which Handroll you want next. Personally, I ordered a second spicy tuna Handroll. Overall, you're getting a $100+ Omakase experience but instead of being in a crowded tiny shop in Manhattan, you're in a quaint sushi bar with super friendly staff. Best of all, it's $36!!!! I really can't stress how if you've had Omakase before, you know how good the quality of sushi can be. If I could give 10 stars, I would. This stop is our new date night hangout, post-stressful day hangout, or we just want some good sushi without going to the city hangout. read more

Really good selection of fresh and inventive rolls and hand rolls. The sesame dressing is absolutely addictive on the salad and the tuna appetizer. Been there twice in a month and plan on being a regular! The only down side is there are limited tables (with uncomfortable seats) so if you are more than 3 people you should probably make a reservation. . The sushi bar is big and seats many. When they are busy you may wait a bit to get your water refilled but the staff if so nice, you probably won't mind. read more

The service is great as they just recently opened not too long ago. The ambiance is clean and modern. The only issue is that the food sometimes comes cold. I just never had sushi that was ice cold. From my experience from higher end spots is that the rice should be room temp/warm and the fish should only be room temp/slightly chilled but it comes out pretty cold as if they just pulled it out of the fridge. If you ever had omakase in the city (Manhattan) and you like sushi, this is probably not the best place to be. The pictures on yelp looks really good so it gave me a higher expectation, however, the food here is below average. I ordered the 5 handroll set, croquette and mushroom garlic fried rice. I was shocked of how simple is the handroll taste like, no seasoning at all. "mushroom + garlic + fried rice", what can go wrong with it? however It just doesn't taste good at all in this place. For 4 items my bill was about $58. Fried oysters was good not over cooked! It was light and crispy outer layer and sauce was very good! Clearly they made tartar sauce and put bacon and boiled eggs and other ingredients so it's not just your regular tartar sauce. But hand roll although they try to serve me right after I was done with each one so the seaweed can be crispy and crunchy it wasn't. Compare to japan where they do the same not even close lol but they tried. Another problem was the ingredients came straight from the fridge so it was ice cold when you eat it which wasn't pleasant. But due to health department clearly they need to refrigerate their food. The scallop I ordered I wish it wasn't drenched in Mayo. The Ika was your regular squid. The crab they use is not that fake kani they used real crabmeat but to me it reminded me of can tuna fish instead, texture and taste but I knew it was crabmeat. They don't have a big menu and food is a bit pricey. So I would say I would only come back and eat the fried oyster and maybe try their kitchen items read more

Favorite sushi on Long Island. Fish is always extremely fresh and the hand rolls are standout. Most sushi restaurants on Long Island have a very similar menu to each other but Ocean Code's menu is pretty unique and offers some nice variety.
