So, I'm not sure why other people aren't giving this store 5 stars. I have been in the hobby for four years with my husband, and we've been to ALL the aquarium stores in this area. You name it, we've been. AND they buy your frags for above and beyond what other stores offer, if they even offer at all. I have also been to several aquarium stores around the country, as I travel for a living. They all pale in comparison to Ocean Avenue's coral selection. Everyone is very nice, and you don't wait long for service. Plus they make you feel like your getting a deal by lowering the price of a particular coral you have been eyeballing. I bought an elegance, among several other things. I had doubts about purchasing it because they are difficult to keep if you get the wrong type. I purchased it on advice of the owner because this particular specimen fit my criteria perfectly. It's been a month and a half, and the little bugger is going strong! I would recommend this place to everyone! I heard the floor manager of another popular aquarium store that my husband I and used to frequent secretly buys all his corals from Oceans! That says something... The only thing I want to see this store carry is more fish. More Leopard wrasse and other harder to find fish. UPDATE: I went yesterday and the had the wrasse I have been so desperately searching for! AND it was a juvenile! this place. Keep it up guys! read more

These guys are awesome! This was my second freshwater tank and although their selection wasn't that large on freshwater fish they were very unique, i wanted to purchase all of them! The entire staff is extremely knowledgable about both freshwater and salt water. They didn't try to pressure me into buying what type of fish THEY liked which is hard to find. They listen to what you have to say and give you helpfull advice. Also, a huge plus...i was looking for leopard puffer fish which they didn't have in stock but guaranteed they would order a batch on their next shipment! Customer service at it's finest. Ocean Avenue is my one stop shop for my fish. their prices are pretty reasonable too and I've never gotten a sick fish from them. read more

I was told to email pictures and what was needed and they would get back with me. 5 days later and still nothing. I've called several times but it continues to go to voicemail. The staff here is super helpful and knowledgeable. I love the quality of their live stock and corals. I have purchased several fish and a couple of corals and have had no issues. If I ever have any issues I can count on them to give me good advice on how to treat my tank. This is a small store so they don't have a lot of equipment and have also noticed that although their live stock is very affordable the equipment is a little on the high end. Regardless I will buy from them because its hard to put a price on the skill and knowledge level they posses. One more thing I hope you like EDM because they have it on as background music. This was such a great store! I came all the way from Waxahachie, and these guys were as welcoming as can be! I asked lots of questions, and they answered them with pleasure. The drive from Plano took over an hour but it was well worth the trip. Acro frags I picked up were reasonably priced and more importantly, healthy (colored, encrusted, and with polyp extension). Anytime I go up there they explain in detail anything and everything. In this hobby it's so important and helpful to have that kind of assistance. This store is small, but good things come in small packages. If you're after something that they don't have, they'll get it. I was after a new skimmer but didn't want a Reef Octopus. The store manager (Danny) created accounts with two separate distributers for the two skimmers (Vertex or AquaMaxx ConeS) I was looking at so he was ready when I made my decision. I made my decision and it took a couple weeks to get, but this was because the distributer was out of stock. Not the stores fault. Due to their smaller size they can't stock everything, but they are proactive and will get anything. Their coral selection is fantastic. The fish selection is on the small side but again they will eventually get whatever you want at possibly the best price in town. If you give them a little patience you will be rewarded. The staff are all reef tank owners and are passionate about what they do. The store was started by a reefer who wanted to do things a little different for other reefer in DFW. He travels around the country to hand pick corals and he always treats his customers like family. They are always looking for better ways to care for the animals in our care. If you have patience, which you should if you are a reef tank owner this is one of, if not the best stores in town. I'll go up there sometimes just to hang out and try and help where I can because I'm that comfortable. I've been to every store in town. The store owned by people that after the money, the dirty stores, the stores owned by people that you as the buyer know more than the guys working there and the few stores in town that are actually helpful and knowledgeable.
