I drove nearly an hour from Katy and paid $40 to attend a class with Wayne. The class started late, and approximately 15 minutes into it, Wayne STOPPED THE ENTIRE CLASS to chastise me in front of everyone because I was modifying some of the movements to protect my back and listening to my own body. I was not disrupting the class. I was not interfering with anyone else's practice. I was practicing variations of the movements being taught. Instead of simply allowing me to modify, offering an alternative, or speaking to me privately, Wayne became visibly angry, removed my personal belongings from the room, and told me to leave in front of the entire class. I was stunned. Yoga is not Simon Says. A teacher is there to guide a practice, not demand that every body in the room move identically regardless of what feels safe or appropriate for that individual. "Listen to your body" and "eyes on your own mat" are principles I have encountered throughout decades of practicing and teaching yoga. I have never experienced an instructor react with this level of hostility because a student chose to modify. What makes the situation even more troubling is that Wayne is apparently the owner, so when I attempted to contact the studio afterward to address what happened, the studio number routed directly back to him. I drove an hour. I paid $40. The class started late. And approximately 15 minutes into the class, I was publicly chastised, had my belongings removed from the room, and was told to leave. In 20 years of yoga, I have never been treated this way in a studio.

This review is of an Align 1 class from someone who has done mostly classical pilates for 6-7…read moreyears. Somewhere in between classic pilates and HIIT. Lots of classic/contemporary pilates movements but done back to back in super high repetitions with none of the mobility focus or breathwork in classic pilates. This was extra weird for me since the class was called "align". This class was also really strangely paced. You do a ton of ab work with lots of repetitions for a very long time then a break of doing nothing, then arms the same way, then a break of doing nothing, etc. There wasn't really a flow like in other pilates classes and a very intense focus on a particular body part at a time- often until failure. We were kept in the same positions (on your back with legs in tabletop and on your knees doing armwork) so long that it was kind of painful just maintaining the position. It was a really tough workout if that is what you're after and you aren't hung up on the classical pilates format. Overall I liked it fine and the instructor seemed better trained than at most of the contemporary studios popping up. 2 complaints: 1. Instead of asking each person individually as they enter if they have injuries to be aware of, the instructor just asked the entire class as a whole. I didn't tell her my injuries because it felt weird announcing it to a room full of people. 2. Two different women in class almost face planted when they put all their bodyweight on the back of the carriage while it was on the lightest spring. The entire front of the carriage flipped up like a seesaw when they moved to the back. For it to happen twice in one class seems kind of dangerous. Overall I would probably try some of their other classes, but wasn't in love.

My friend brought me to Salt Power Yoga just over a month ago. My first class was "happy hour yoga"…read more- 60 min yoga with Wendy, followed by happy hour snacks and drinks. I felt this sense of belonging. I didn't know anyone but I felt right at home. The instructors genuinely want and try to get to know each of us and make us feel appreciated as a member of the Salt Power community. Each instructor has similar style and poses/flow moves, but adds their own unique flare. Some classes are instructed with music, but most are silent and all you can hear is your breathing. My single, most favorite thing about Salt Power is the inclusion and the warmth (figuratively, not literally though it is ~90F). No matter each individual's place in their practice, the instructors always make sure to express to everyone that whatever they are doing is accepted and amazing. Personally, I respond well to positive affirmation so I really appreciate this. If I don't have a pose, but it is recognized that I am working on it, it encourages me to try harder. It's not everybody's style, but it sure is mine! If you haven't checked out Salt Power and are unsure about committing to a place to practice, you can check out their Happy Hour class because it is donation based and you really get a sense of the community. Every class I go to, I make at least one new friend, but usually more. In addition, they have an awesome promotion where the first 30 days are only $30. That's the equivalent of 2 drop-ins. What a steal. I am so happy I found Salt Power and I am so excited for my journey with them.

I love that she gives multiple cues to correct form, making sure everyone moves safely and effectively. She also incorporates different Pilates equipment I've never used before, which keeps the classes fun and engaging. The studio itself is beautiful, smells amazing, and has a great selection of cute grip socks and clothing for purchase. If you're in the area, definitely check out House of Core!

The Reformer Fitness Class is the regular Pilates class. Stretch classes are awesome but fill up fast so you might be waitlisted. I still haven't made it to a Jumpboard class bc those are always full. Classes are small and 45 min long. You prob won't lose as much weight just working out here and not modifying your diet and lifestyle but it's good for strengthening and toning so your clothes will fit better. The temperature is normal so not heated like at a yoga class. The instructors are awesome and make it a point to spread positive vibes. They have a perk program. When you hit a certain amount of classes, they give you a card for 15% off a class pack or retail. Every now and then they'll have a sale. Their app makes it easy to sign up for classes. They are a cashless business. They do a great job of trying to make this place safe for students. Instructors wear masks and there are cleaning supplies everywhere. Some classes do require you to wear a mask and are indicated when you sign up for a class. Overall, I really enjoy coming here and highly recommend that people try it once. The other locations are good too.

This studio caters to all skill levels and you're able to adjust difficulty during the classes if you need a little more/less. Love how the location is also right off of 610 and doesn't require me to drive all the way in the loop.
