My recent surgery to repair an inguinal hernia was performed by Dr. Russel Martin, and I can tell you with absolute confidence that it was the easiest surgical experience of my life. Dr. Martin is a very good-natured man who exudes and inspires confidence that clearly comes, not from arrogance, but from experience, genuine skill, and dedication to his profession. All of my questions were answered ... all of my concerns were addressed. Dr. Martin was both patient and articulate. His team in the office and at the hospital (St. Agnes) were top-flight and made me feel very well cared for the entire time. My anesthesiologists were flawless. On a scale of 1-10 my post-op pain level never got past a 4 and my recovery has been rapid (two weeks later I am in the pool swimming laps and feeling fine) I feel none of the common post-op discomfort sometimes caused by the injection of CO2. I am 78 and Dr. Martin, made sure that I was ok for the procedure by sending me to Dr. Khoi Le (also an excellent doctor) for a cardiac clearance. As I said, surgery is stressful, but I can honestly say that Dr. Martin is the best I could hope for, and I remain very satisfied and grateful for his help in improving the quality of my life. If I could award him more stars I certainly would.

Most of all he is knowledgeable and has many years of experience. I am a nurse and work on my feet 12 hrs daily. I developed a debilitating tear in my tibial tendon. I also had an accessory navicular bone. This was causing me extreme pain and swelling while on my feet. I was unable to work or even walk/stand for prolong periods. I tried resting my ankle, a CAM boot and physical therapy but unfortunately it did not get better. I needed surgery and consulted with a local ankle orthopedic surgeon. He recommended and insisted I would need a tendon transfer and ankle fusion with hardware. When asked about the option of a more conservative approach he became dismissive and even rude. I later found out he rarely offered his patients those options. I saw Dr. Emmy Oji shortly after and he recommended a much more conservative approach. I had so many questions and he was very patient with me and answered them all. Dr. Oji was able to complete a tendon debridement and keep my tendon along with removing the accessory navicular bone. It was a lengthy recovery of being in a cast and boot for 3 months then regaining my strength back with PT. Dr. Oji was very positive and encouraging along the way. I am very grateful to be 1 year post op and able to work my 12 hour shifts with minimal pain.

I was so fed up that it kept dislocating, I agreed to the surgery and we moved forward. Everything went so smoothly! From the X-rays, to scheduling the MRI, to scheduling the surgery, and all of the appointments in between and after surgery. The office staff is very nice and helpful and the office itself is very clean. They have AMI in the same office which is very convenient for X-rays; they get them back in literally minutes. Simonian's PA's are also great, especially Nate. I had surgery 12/03/19, almost 6 months ago, and my knee is doing great. Dr. Simonian is very experienced and a great doctor/surgeon. I had MPFL reconstruction, with a donor graft put in, and he also cleaned up my meniscus and my knee area in general. I have no pain where the graft was placed and my patella hardly moves laterally anymore due to the new graft. This was a very painful surgery and recovery, but I am so glad I chose Dr. Simonian to do it! Would highly recommend him to anyone with shoulder or knee problems!

I have to say that out of the last 10 visits, we've had to wait much longer than my youngster can handle before some form of melt-down...but they seem to be getting better at reducing the wait. That would be my one and only complaint about the place (it might also deal with my child's doctor has patients much sicker than mine..so she may not be the highest priority...so that means she has to wait longer). Besides that I have been impressed with the friendliness of the staff at this location--going out of the way to try to make my little one okay with medical procedures and measuring (she hates getting her height measured!) that she is too young to understand. When my child has gone through a symptom flare-up or difficult situation, my child's doctor has called after hours to answer questions, and he has even called first thing in the morning to see how she did overnight. We had to undergo some trial and error in the beginning to get her treatment routine just right, but the doctor worked with me to make sure she had exactly what she needed, and took the time to ask a few extra questions and answer all of mine (without feeling like I was being rushed out of the exam room) so that I could be in the best position to care for my little one. They have also squeezed my child in for appointments when needed. I have been really impressed with the overall quality of service and care my child has received here. I hope that everyone else who decides to try them out feels the same.

If you are looking for a highly skilled, well-trained surgeon for a total knee replacement, he…read moreshould be on your list. Of course, always get a second opinion on a surgery this advanced. I did. I'm three months post-op now. I'm walking fine. Bending my knee at 138 degrees. I'm probably 75% or 80% healed, so there are still occasional swelling issues from doing too much exercise. What makes Dr. Knedel special is that he uses the Mako robotic assist device. The robotic assist makes the operation more precise than the conventional methods. He used Stryker Triathlon implants that were snapped into place, rather than attached with bone cement. My leg bones have actually grown into the implants. They're part of my leg. There is no bone cement to crack and degrade over time. Dr. Knedel is friendly and responsive to questions. But you can easily find friendly surgeons who will explain their work to you. I wanted a more advanced technique that is less invasive. Dr. Knedel is young but he does hundreds of these surgeries every year. I'll toss in a picture to show you my incision. Ask around. See if you can find another robotics-assisted device in Fresno. Maybe there are more of these devices by now. But Saint Agnes Medical Center has one for sure. And SAMC has a fine surgeon to use it.
