Going to Sedona in one of the quietest times of the year has its benefits. We were seated in this beautiful restaurant in a comfy boot promptly, and the service was very helpful and nice. Right off the bat, we were traveling with somebody who had dietary issues, and she remembered that this place offered fried and baked tortilla chips! Baked tortilla chips are the bomb, and far fewer calories than the fried version so I was excited about this. We ordered guacamole, but it tasted suspiciously like the premade guacamole you can buy at the grocery store that comes in the produce section. Overly smooth without the messy chunks of fresh hand-cut ingredients you notice in most freshly made guac. Didn't particularly think that the salsa was homemade. but could be wrong. We did order delicious margaritas (for those of us that could drink) and I honestly would say that given the chance I'd come back for some of the baked chips and a margarita any day if the guacamole was better. I don't think you can go wrong with Mexican food in Sedona, and our food was pretty average. In Connecticut, we have an unusually large selection of Mexican restaraunts, and I can say that I have had better, but no overall complaints. I believe this restaurant has been a staple in Sedona for some time, and I would absolutely have gone back if we had the time. read more

I was driving through Sedona and stopped here for lunch. We were seated on the upstairs open-air patio, and our server arrived quickly to take our order. We had the Oaxaca Pasole and the Oaxaca Tacos. Both were absolutely delicious! The flavors were incredible, and the portions were huge! Not sure I'm understanding all the negative reviews here. My family has lived in Sedona and we have been coming here for years, and we've always felt Oaxaca is one of the best / most reasonable restaurants in town. The food has always been solid, we've never had a problem with the service, their prickly pear margarita is fantastic, and the ambiance is super nice with colorful decor and great views. Yes, it is a bit pricy for Mexican food, but that should be expected being smack dab in the most touristy stretch of town. That being said, the restaurant is usually pretty easy to get in and out of, even during peak times, and I feel like I've always left feeling satisfied after eating here. Would recommend for solid Mexican fare in a town that honestly doesn't have a ton of fantastic restaurants to choose from. I highly recommend the hard shell tacos. read more

Banking on its prime touristy location on Sedona's uptown strip, this establishment has been a staple of the Sedona landscape. Beware: hidden at the bottom of the menu, they note an added 20% to groups of six (6) or more. A total turn off. I tip around 20%-25%. This up charge is sour. I hope they reconsider this policy. It make sense in the short run. I wouldn't return with six simply because of this. Food: I ordered a rather exotic, "local" dish, Cactus Tacos. They were good. But they tasted a bit dry. They were lukewarm. I suspect they sat under a heating lamp for too long. The rice and beans that always come with Mexican dishes confirmed this. Service: No complaints. Nice guy. Know what he was doing. Orders were correct. They came in a timely matter. Ambiance: We had a great view of the mountains, but they're across a very busy pedestrian landscape and the shops on the other side of the road. But still nice. The southwest decor was over the top. To all my fellow tourists, do yourself a favor and skip this one. As a Latina I came here with high hopes. Food wasn't the best and food was brought out before our appetizers, came here to celebrate my husbands birthday while on vacation and they forgot, they forgot to bring out my Cadillac margarita. Went here for dinner last night and will not be returning. We have family that comes in groups to Sedona and we will not be coming here again. The food is not tasty. The rice looked, tasted, and felt like it was cooked out of a box or package. Very dry, tasteless, and on the hard side. The food is bland. We asked the server if he can make a mocktail, a drink without the alcohol and he said no only alcoholic drinks. What!? A bartender that doesn't know how to make a mock tail? That's elementary. We ordered a size of fried for our daughter which was $7.50, for fries!! The total of the bill was $85 for 3 plates and a margarita special. Not worth it one bit and a rip off! By the time we were halfway through or meal we were the only table in the restaurant. They were cleaning and putting up the chairs all around us. We asked the guy what time they closed he said usually 9, but it's been slow so after you guys leave. No wonder every 2 minutes he was coming to our table to see what we needed, to rush us out. Very unprofessional. I had to use the restroom and couldn't believe my eyes, both toilets in the stalls are crooked, facing towards the wall, when you sit down your knees/legs are into the wall!! So we went there party of six. The walkway to get to the hostess seems a bit of a struggle. I had my mom with us and it took her some time to make it to the doors. The waiting area where the hostess is really small a narrow. It's a struggle trying to come in while others are leaving. So we were sat. I accidentally pour over the water that was placed on the table. One of the bussers saw it happen, looked at me and then continue to do whatever it was she was doing. We waited about 5 mins or a little until the waiter came by, I told him what I did and he was unphased by it and continued to take our order. I can't believe no one thought to come by to clean it, I mean we could of slipped. I can't really say the food was great, because I felt it average, I truly expected more because of the price they are charging for each plate. I have authentic Mexican food that was way better than what we were served. I gave the servicer that amount of stars because he hardly came to check on us, but at the end brought my girls a small scoop of ice cream. My autistic little girl stopped her screaming after he brought us that which I completely appreciated. The restaurant in all felt tight. There are 2 stalls and also ran into the problem of trying to change my daughter's diaper while making sure I am not impeding people from coming in or out because of the small amount of room. I don't recommend this place unless you are hungry and don't want to keep walking the strip to find something else. read more

Great location in the middle of town and the ambience is nice. I ordered the pork chili verde and enjoyed it. The meat was tender. The rice was good, not great. The refried beans are just refried beans - taste the same everywhere. The margarita was quite good. The guacamole tasted fresh and wasn't over loaded w stuff, so I enjoyed that. First time back in Sedona in a few years. We have been coming to this restaurant since our first time here! From the start - the view is amazing. You can see the red rocks of Sedona while you watch the people bustle on the street. The Mexican food is better than anything in the Bay Area, although we have had better in Arizona. We ate at Oaxaca on our first trip to Sedona several years ago and have not been in a hurry to return. However, the wait at 89 Agave Cantina was at least 45 minutes so we headed to the opposite side of the street to Oaxaca. We only had to wait a few minutes before we were seated in one of the rooms facing the street. It is a "stereotypical" Mexican restaurant in both decor and food. Prices are rather high -- not unexpected in Uptown Sedona. The complimentary tortilla chips were quite tasty. In keeping with the atmosphere, DH and I both ordered beers and taco plates. Fish for DH and shredded beef for me. The refried beans were worth only a couple of bites. Not worth finishing.The cilantro rice was different than what we usually see. It would have tasted better had it not been lukewarm. Like the beans, it was not worth finishing. Tacos were okay, but no clean plates at Oaxaca for the two of us. On the plus side, Ana was our very pleasant server. We had forgotten to give her our discount card, and she was very willing to re-do our check for us. read more

Waited 15 minutes with waiters making at least 10 passes by us with no greeting, no one ever came to take our order. We got up and left.

In short, I wouldn't wait 30 minutes again to eat at Oaxaca. First, the good. They offer a wide range of different margaritas but I couldn't deviate from the house special and I wasn't disappointed. The balance of the lime and citrus flavors were on point and a perfect balance of bitter and sweet. The restaurant itself offers an authentic atmosphere and is very well appointed with decorations which is a positive addition to the experience. Now, the bad. The quality for the price was not justifiable. The fajita burro is average at best. The chicken, peppers, onions, and mushrooms were cooked well but lacked distinct flavors. I expect more for $18.50. It would be nice if corn tortillas were offered in addition to flour. My recommendation would be to come for a margarita and guac and chips. read more

It's a tourist trap but I at least expected some sense of effort and respect to the very extensive and rich Oaxacan gastronomy. The Pozole was shredded chicken and mushed veggies. The Guacamole was not fresh, it was like a frozen avocado cream. The Salsa had bits of frozen tomato and no salt. ALSO, proofread your menu. The kids menu has Chicken "Strippers"...I'm assuming that's incorrect. The 1 Star, is rightfully so for the waiter and water boy who were helpful and sweet. read more

After hours of walking around sedona trails, we just wanted something cool and refreshing to drink. Horchata came to mind and we tried it at this place and oh my goodness. It was bomb!! The best horchata I've ever tasted! Even compared to the ones I've tried in LA. It's creamy, without yucky granules from like powdered horchata. It hit the spot. read more

We almost didn't come here because of the overall rating but I'm sure glad we did! They have a great patio with a view on the second level. The service was great as well as the food! In Sedona for vacation and while walking down main street we decided to stop in for lunch. There is a handicap accessible entrances on the 2nd floor which was great for my grandmother in a wheelchair. However, once inside, she couldn't use the restroom or anything without flights of stairs. We would have chosen somewhere else had we known.... Food. Was okay. Being from CO, I expected much better in AZ... I got the shrimp and cod tacos. Great portion sizes. Had about 10 shrimp in my taco and it was nicely seasoned. I would get it again but I don't think it was worth $15.25.. I looked at reviews after the fact, and I would say I agree with most of them. I would have tried a different restaurant had I read reviews and seen the menu first. $100 after tip for 4 ppl for average Mexican food. Disappointed. Edit 4/24 due to comment: My disappointment came from mostly the price and the handicap piece. We also had to ask for drink refills numerous times as well as the check. We had a great family dinner at Oaxaca. Ice cold local beer on tap and we recommend their specialty margarita - well worth it. We did some good damage on the menu ordering up the Espinaca con Queso and guacamole that led to enchiladas, shrimp Oaxaca, Blue Mesa Trout, some tacos, and fajitas. All good. Tony, our server, was attentive and friendly, and we are thankful for his service. The food came out of the kitchen hot and without delay. Oh, and the view was great, with the sun have set and the red rocks outlined with a gorgeous blue sky in the background. So if you patronize Oaxaca, sit upstairs and outside for the view.
