Park Laundrette - Dryers and large washers

The place is fairly clean although could be better and there is only two small tables to fold clothes and one is under where the soap and fabric softener are dispensed so it was coated with laundry soap powder and the other is under the pay station (so in the way and the stuff on it gives the impression it's not meant to be used). The machines were easy to use and I really appreciated the contactless credit card payment option (without an extra fee). Just across the street is a cute little parklet with benches to enjoy some fresh air while you wait. There are also plenty of coffee shops, restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance. One of the frustrating things I encountered was that there was a laundry soap dispensing machine but it only accepts coins. So if you think you're going to be able to do your laundry without cash you better have your own soap. Also, the machine does not sell dryer sheets, only laundry soap and fabric softener. When I bought the laundry soap the box got stuck in the machine and I couldn't get it free with even my small hands. It would have also been nice if there was an unscented laundry soap option. Important to note that the last wash is at 20:00 (8 pm) even though it's open until 22:00 (10 pm). The sign says that the water supply cuts off. They do have WiFi and the code is posted on the wall. However, after I logged in it didn't actually work to connect to the internet for me. So overall, the best option I could find near the city centre of Bristol.

People's Republic of Stokes Croft - Taken from their website

Stokes Croft is a sliver of land between the suburbs Kingsdown and Bishopston and inner city St…read more Pauls. It's definitely not the prettiest of areas. In fact it's pretty grey and depressing, with a fair few boarded up shops and a constant stream of cars roaring through on their way home or into the centre of Bristol. Possibly because people want to counter the dullness of the place some amazing grafitti has popped up here, which the grandly named People's Republic of Stokes Croft have claimed responsibility for. Some of the murals are beautiful (which of course are liable to change or get wiped out by the council without any notice) and I think it's a brave attempt to bring a little colour to what is a drab part of Bristol. There isn't yet a walking tour, but I can imagine one popping up - Bristol's urban art has been attracting a lot of interest recently. It's easy enough to see the sites by one's self though - a wonder along Jamaica Street and the road Stokes Croft itself should mean you see a few interesting sites. Their website reveals them as a fairly serious bunch. They have maps, ambitions to be some sort of official community group, and a mission statement that says they want to promote Stokes Croft as a 'cultural quarter'. I hope they go from strength to strength and continue to brighten up Stokes Croft. That their chairman Chris Chalkley was arrested for painting a 'Welcome to Stokes Croft' sign shows they've got a way to go before everyone comes round to this view.

Stokes Croft: a gift and a curse to Bristol's culture. On one hand, this area of town is dodgy as…read morethey come, with antisocial behaviour and crime, this is a threatening place to be if you're alone and feeling vulnerable, especially towards the St James Roundabout. On the other hand, Stokes Croft is a gem. Full of artists and musicians, businesses like venues, cafes and arts centres are rapidly growing, what with Hamilton House, the Left Bank Centre, Metropolis and Cafe Kino all newly developing. When I miss Bristol, I miss places like Stokes Croft, but also can feel a little unsafe walking around there. It's definitely worth a visit. This is Bristol as much as Clifton is.

With funky purple cushion seating. * Manned. No launderette mysteries. If something goes wrong the guy's right there. * Eco friendly detergents. Stuff that doesn't sweep persistent pollutants down the drain and out to sea. * Little jars: if you forget your laundry powder you can buy a little refillable jar right there. And if you like it you can buy it full size. * Radio. Classic rock of some kind. "Walk this way" now playing... * Laundry fiction. (??!) A series of books with the word 'launderette' or 'laundromat' in the title. * Cinnamon rolls. They rock. Why doesn't every coffeeshop have them? They're so 'fika'. It's right next to Cafe Lazz where I usually go for coffee but I might go here instead now, laundry or no laundry. Cool. Only downside: if you come in winter, wear your coat!

Always really helpful for people that don't have a clue (like me!) and always have time for a natter. Won me over in a heartbeat. I like the play on words as well, clean bean, free jelly beans... it's always really clean there and it's just a cute, cosie more modern version of a launderette.

The Phone Shop - iphone repair

    The Phone Shop

DO NOT GO TO THIS SHOP!!!!…read more This is a business run by very crafty owners/employees. I went to this shop to simply get my charging port replaced. My phone was in perfect working condition bar the charging port. The gorilla replaced the port and said it works fine now. I got home and put it on charge and guess what it still didn't charge. I took it back for him to say it must be my cable and said I should buy a new cable. I go to try it again at home and it still does not work. I go back again and ask for him to fix the charging port and a refund on the cable, he did actually fix the port this time but refused to give me a refund on the cable because I couldn't prove I bought it from them (they didn't issue a receipt for it). I now have a phone that is charging but once the phone is on I discover a load more problems. The screen is ruined, the battery life is depleted and I have very poor signal. Now I recently to it to another phone repair place (the is one literally opposite this shop) and they were brilliant. But when they opened my phone they realised that the battery inside was not the original (I've never had my battery replaced). The guy told me that it was very common practise for The Phone Shop to take out the original battery and replace it with a very poor one. This means that when you come to realise that your battery is not working, you will go back to The Phone Shop where they will sell you back your original battery for a high price. I would also like say that when my phone was reopened after The Phone Shop's awful job, the guy told me there was loads of screws missing and there was a piece of paper left in my phone. Moral of the story: go anywhere but The Phone Shop to get your phone fixed, they are cons who know nothing about phones.

Not only that, but he repeatedly gave me back a phone that wasn't working. Joker. My iPhone had stopped charging so I took it in. The guy told me it was a common fault, would cost £25 to fix, and would be ready at closing time. I came back at six, he hasn't tested it but said "I'm sure it's fine, bring it back if there's any problems". Surprise surprise, when I got home the phone still wasn't charging. I took it back the next time I was in Bristol (a few days later) and pointed out that he hadn't fixed it. The guy took it back (no apology), and told me to call back in an hour. When I come back, the phone is at last working and he powers it on to prove. Get home. Switch on phone, now the home button isn't working. Grrrr. I took it back yet again and of course I got no apology for wasting my time, the guy just made a puzzled face and started tinkering with it (as if I wasn't there). After five minutes he said "ok all done, thanks bye". I tested it in front of him and the home button still isn't doing anything. No apology again, he just said "that's strange", followed by another five minutes of pulling at the button with a screwdriver. Finally "ok I think it's done". I tested it myself and finally it was working (though considering what he's done, I'm wondering how long it'll last). Still no apology, he just said "ok thanks bye" and pulls out his own phone and started messing with it. Total joker. Avoid.
