This is an excellent addition to the varied cuisine options available in East Kowloon. This restaurant sits on the top floor of the Crowne Plaza, and has an outside, rooftop area for drinks and/or dining. Cielo is an Italian restaurant and bar perched sky high on top of Crowne Plaza Kowloon East. It also serves as the hotel's club floor lounge. You can get there via Popcorn Mall. The vibe is chilled, quiet and relaxed. The trendy bar outside looks exactly like a classy hotel bar in Koh Samui. It's decked out in brown and white rattan chairs and tables and I felt like I was on a tropical island! Service is so-so. Nothing bad but nothing to write hom about. Food is okay. The afternoon tea set is not great (eg the macaroons were hard and chewy). But savoury courses such as lunch and dinner are alright.

The food items are more appetizer size bar food than entrees and will set you back about 100-150 hkd. The portion size is pretty substantial and you can definitely share with others. Aside from the view, the cocktails are unique and there's one that just gets me every time: the Purple Cloud, made with taro and coconut milk and rosemary and vodka and who remembers what else? One of these is a mandatory part of any evening at Sugar. Other drinks have been well enjoyed too, such as the Passionate Dragon. With a Japanese trained Argentinian chef, the food at The Ocean has a zen like appearance, a delicate French touch, and an explosion of flavors. We opted for the smaller set menu at lunch, but we had plenty to eat. Our oyster pineapple starter was smashing, and each dish that followed was creative, unique and special. Service was very elegant and so Parisian. Yes, the waiter was from Paris. Management is also French, by way of Marseille. Our bill for four courses came to about 1000 Hong Kong dollars for two persons. Everything about The Ocean was tres magnifique. Go now, before it becomes too popular and passé. Driving out to Stanley is always a treat, and on the 4th day of Chinese New Year, some of the shops are still closed. So when I got to Stanley Plaza and found that they are all open, it really made my day! After parking at the plaza, we walked along the promenade line with eateries and pubs, we decided on Pickled Pelican! This is a traditional English type pub serving mostly pub food with a focus on their burgers. Since, I just recovered I thought I would reserve the Burgers for a later date!! ( Yes, as they were paraded in front of me, I tell myself to make a point to come back for their burgers, they all looked so good especially when you cannot have it!!) So the healthy choice: Grilled Chicken Caesar it is...and sometimes your body will tell you what is good for you and what is not and I have to say, the whole order of Caesar would have been a perfect meal for anyone recovering from cold or flu, it consist of very very fresh Romaine Lettuce, cherry tomatoes, avocados, hard boiled eggs, air dried parma ham, anchovies and more! With a tall class of Ginger Ale, I felt rejuvenated and refreshed!! When we return to HK a stay in Stanley will definitely be on our list to break up the noise, hustle, and bustle of the city. Both regular and holiday menus were available this evening. We ordered a few of their special drinks and dishes. Whoever was expediting in the kitchen did a good job because the timing of our courses was perfect. None of us were left out or had to wait. The only glitch was one of the dishes was missing some garnish. We flagged them over and it was fixed in a minute. It was hard to decide whether the Rack of Lamb Provencal or the Sea Urchin Soup was the favorite at our table. The Turkey Roulade with Chestnut was up there as well. We all enjoyed that Mango Cream Pistachio Cake a lot and wished it had been bigger even though we were pretty full by then. It was a fun evening for us and we went away sated. The food was delicious. The wait staff was friendly. Definitely appreciated everyone working there through the holiday.
