I considered myself very well-behaved that I only chose four things when there was so much to pick from! The chocolate covered cc cookie dough bites were on point, in fact better than I expected. I'd have never known they were gf, which is always the goal. Well done! I also loved the cupcakes, the vegan chocolate with marshmallow frosting (vegan of course) was perfection, and I'd definitely order it again. The spice cupcake was delicious too! All three of my choices were moist and not too heavy (sometimes challenging for gf,) and my diet is very lucky I don't live local...because I would be back. Probably repeatedly. Also, they have books! More of my favorite things...

I got a ton of new brands to try out, and even some brands we've had but new options not available more local to me. One of the co-owners, Tammy, had the best customer service I've ever experienced in a store! She gave honest feedback to so many products I questioned, and helped me with all of my questions and concerns. She even sent safe chocolate samples home for my boys, and offered to order specific things in store or FOR me whenever I came back, if I just gave her a heads up! This was absolutely worth the trip out there! It's about 45min from Downingtown area - HIGHLY recommend! Thank you, Tammy!

I don't think they still have that option, but the little store is absolutely fantastic. Anita and the other ladies who work there are some of the most friendly and knowledgeable staff I've ever met at a health foods store--and I've been to a lot of them! The store is small and situated on a farm along busy Rt. 10. It's typical of Lancaster County in that you turn where the sign is, on good faith that there is a store back there and not just someone's home! It's located just down the driveway and is hidden from the road by trees. They have a small selection of local organic produce (ask to double-check about items; they are not advertised/certified), an aisle dedicated to natural health/personal care items, an aisle of snacks and vitamins, an aisle of baking supplies and ingredients, and several large freezers with snacks, organic nuts, gluten-free and natural bread options, and best of all--good, real meat, poultry, and seafood, some of which is local, especially the beef products which are the farmer's own steer. One of my favorite items from the store is the all-natural, nitrate-free beef sticks that they make. In a typical grocery store they are a highly processed and unhealthy option, but from Hartz's they are a healthy and easy high protein snack. The store is continuously expanding and changing. I was only in town for two weeks and each time I went in there were more items and new organization! I took my Mom there to get good, natural calcium supplements that were far superior to the synthetic ones at GNC or Walmart, and Anita shared a vast wealth of information and personal experience with her to help her in her decision. I try to eat only organic and non-gmo foods (what this basically means is that I want to eat real food, as God created it) and I couldn't have done that in Morgantown without Hartz's!

But today I discovered this gluten-free local bakery with a convenient stall at Market! (This easily makes my Top 5 food highlights of 2020.) I love Thom's, Ric's, Bistro Barbaret, the Amish bakers of Bird-in-Hand, and Porch & Pantry's (Mt. Gretna) baked goods, but my husband can't enjoy the same variety of goodies as I can from these local favorites. Amaranth has such a great selection, including all the Hubs' favs -- Whoopie pies, cinnamon coffee cake, loaves of cinnamon raisin bread, and maple almond granola. There were also a variety of cookies on display that looked really good as well as flat rounds for flatbread pizza -- we'll be back for those! And if you think finding good quality gluten-free baked goods is hard, try shopping for a gluten-free vegan loved one! Amaranth has me covered there, too with vegan bread loaves. There also are bags of flour and oats, if you'd like to take some good quality ingredients home to bake your own goods. So come visit this big stall of goodness and support a local business that sources as many local ingredients as possible! They have a nice big, corner stall near Mean Cup that makes it easy to find and navigate.
