My parents have shopped here since I…read morewas a kid, when they used to get peanuts ground into peanutbutter long before "natural" peanutbutter became a thing. I don't think they still have that option, but the little store is absolutely fantastic. Anita and the other ladies who work there are some of the most friendly and knowledgeable staff I've ever met at a health foods store--and I've been to a lot of them! The store is small and situated on a farm along busy Rt. 10. It's typical of Lancaster County in that you turn where the sign is, on good faith that there is a store back there and not just someone's home! It's located just down the driveway and is hidden from the road by trees. They have a small selection of local organic produce (ask to double-check about items; they are not advertised/certified), an aisle dedicated to natural health/personal care items, an aisle of snacks and vitamins, an aisle of baking supplies and ingredients, and several large freezers with snacks, organic nuts, gluten-free and natural bread options, and best of all--good, real meat, poultry, and seafood, some of which is local, especially the beef products which are the farmer's own steer. One of my favorite items from the store is the all-natural, nitrate-free beef sticks that they make. In a typical grocery store they are a highly processed and unhealthy option, but from Hartz's they are a healthy and easy high protein snack. The store is continuously expanding and changing. I was only in town for two weeks and each time I went in there were more items and new organization! I took my Mom there to get good, natural calcium supplements that were far superior to the synthetic ones at GNC or Walmart, and Anita shared a vast wealth of information and personal experience with her to help her in her decision. I try to eat only organic and non-gmo foods (what this basically means is that I want to eat real food, as God created it) and I couldn't have done that in Morgantown without Hartz's!

There was so much hype when Lidl opened recently in my town I almost felt an obligation to check it…read moreout. Every time I talked to my dad he would tell me about how great of a store it was supposed to be. Basically I went to contribute something to the conversation and a small part of me was curious also. It was supposed to be modeled after Aldi - for which is kinda a miss for me, but I decided to check them out anyway. It took a few times as they have a 100 person max capacity and the line always snaked around outside. On my 4th try one early morning after opening I was lucky enough to get in without a line. Carts and sanitizing spray and wipes are located outside which I appreciated. Inside the store was nice and bright and aesthetically pleasing as its set up that all the colorful produce, floral, etc catch your eye at the entrance. They have their own bakery, which was a surprise to me. Everything looked fresh, the isles wide and open, and stocked pretty well. Although I couldn't find two items on my list; poppyseed lemon salad dressing and candied pecans. They have all the normal departments, many organic items, and some specialty foods, and several brands I never heard of. Each department is on the smaller size though, so you have to be open to different brands. There's isles in the middle that carry non food products, toys, etc. Everything there was reasonably priced but not discount. Aside from a few "door busters" items that were priced really well (bag of granny smith apples for .99 cents for example), prices were at or above a regular chain grocery store pricing which leads me to why I probably won't stop in often.... At checkout you have to pay for bags (.10 cents each) AND bag your groceries. To me this is a huge turn off. Prices are not that cheap that you need to charge me for bags, and last time I checked my paycheck didn't come from Lidl so why am I doing your job... This bothers me as much as the .25 cent cart deposit at Aldi. When you're trying to load your items on the belt at checkout alone, who also has the time to bag, or reload in your cart to move to a bagging station? To do essentially what I feel the cashier should be doing. I can't image trying to do this while wrestling a few kids and trying to keep a mask on my face, while digging for my credit card for payment, and trying not to hold up the line. Let me make this real clear...they will NOT assist in any way, nor lift one item to place in a bag - yours or store bought - regardless if there's waiting customers or not. I even asked for assistance bagging and was given a hard no. As there are now, I would stop in if I needed one or two items and was nearby. However I won't be a regular customer unless they change their ways to be more customer friendly at the register.
