Caribbean Jerk Spiced Filet of Alaskan Salmon
Morgan V.

This place gets SUPER busy on the weekend. Came in at 6 PM on a Saturday and were told it would be 1:45 for 2 people. Luckily they had an open seating/bar area upstairs and we were able to order a drink and wait for a table to open up. The drinks here are way too sweet in my opinion. I really enjoyed the corn chowder, although I wish it had a sweeter corn flavor. Chicken scallopini and caribbean salmon were alright - both pretty dry and lacking in seasoning. The mac and cheese was quite greasy and the mashed potatoes had an odd slight sourness. While the food was mediocre, service was great. Our server was super nice, friendly and attentive despite how busy it was. Also appreciated the throwback music choice. Just know it was a little hard to have a conversation because of everyone else.

Soup of the Day

Went in on a busy night and luckily got seating. Started off the evening with a few cocktails, all of which were incredibly sweet. Soup of the day for us was a corn and bacon chowder, which was honestly the highlight of the night. The onions straws were pretty standard onion apps, not bad but not great. The salmon felt overcooked and chewy, the white sauce overshadowed the actual seasoning of the salmon, which was actually kinda salty once you got past the sauce. The chicken had a great texture but that was about it. Nice ambiance, our waiter was great, but food was whatever. Also whoever was playing the music was playing straight bangers. Thank you for that

Im already giving this restaurant 5 stars because of JIANA. Just when I thought people go above and beyond, Jiana went beyond above and beyond! Very patient, warm, smiling, great suggestions, not in a hurry to discuss the options, even talked about possible customizations for our food. It's like their menu is unlimited because Jiana's the type that she will do things because she can and because she wants her customers happy. Perfect example was my cesar salad as a side. It wasnt an option but she made it herself! And it's the kind of cesar salad that I like! Right balance of cheese, anchovies and garlic so good! She was busy but it felt like she had time for everyone and even more! Thank u soo much Jiana! Maybe when we come.back next year hopefully you will be a supervisor or promoted again you deserve it! You and the other 2 ladies were the only ones who seem like they enjoy their jobs hope u guys rub off on them hehe Okay. FOOD REVIEW. Cesar salad - sooo good! Read above for review. Truffle fries -i loooove how it was cooked! Crispy but not hard! Soft on some but more on crispy side! Cheese on top yes pls! The truffle was right amount, not too overwhelming! But the winner was the dips/sauces that came with it. The Chipotle catsup and garlic aioli. Hubby loved the Chipotle and I love the aioli. It was so good, we used it on our burgers too! The aioli might be a bit on the thicker side but it's too good to be turned off by the consistency! There's that taste that u get after a second or 2 that just elevates everything American wagyu steak burger - the burger was good. It would have been better if it was cooked to my liking.. I ordered medium well but it was more medium rare to medium.. but the aioli just made it soo good! I also added the bacon and cheese (great recommendation Jiana! You're so awesome!) . The brioche bun was a bit too hard or not so new? But.. it the burger was decent.. wouldn't order it again though.. Oakside burger - hubby ordered this and medium well. Omg it was cooked to perfection! With char too! Who would say no to a great char soo.. hubby doesnt eat onions.. but Jiana is sooo awesome that she still included the tempura battered onion on the side, instead of in the burger because it was that good! A must try! LOL I was eating it and hubby stopped me coz he loved it! Hehehe thank u Jiana!!! Eggs and bacon was also added per jiana's reco and it was sooo good. So yes, we would order this burger again It was hubby's birthday so it was super nice that jiana had the initiative to give him this cake :) it was a great way to end our meal! The raspberry just elevated the cake so much! So yes, the food was great but jiana was the best! We'll be back for sure!

The steaks were excellent and cooked perfectly to order, complemented by a great selection of sides. However, the flatbreads fell a bit short--they were a little too oily and salty for my taste.

Oakside deserves full 5stars. Its one of those restaurants that its better not to skip and believe in great feedbacks...We came here for brunch but we didnt know they dont offer brunch and from 11am their lunch menu is on.So, they were so sweet and welcoming and asked where we want to sit. Restaurant has patio, balcony and main dining room which we chose to dine in. A friendly lady approached us and explained the menu and gave us great ideas about beers. We ended up to order potato in skin filled with cheese, sour cream, green onion and yummy bacon. Also, we got chicken wings which was super fresh and also shrimp cocktails. Everything was great and i love everything about this place. Next time forsure ill sit outside if its not going to be cold....they have public parking next to the restaurant...

This was our 30th anniversary and Oakside brought the game! We had a skirt steak and salmon as our entrees with side dishes of white grilled corn, baked potato and roasted brussel sprouts, sweet potato fries, and two cocktails. The service was top tier! Josue was above and beyond. He was busy but made us feel like we were the only ones here. The only time we felt a little uncomfortable was the busser said we may have to share our table! What the heck?! We were told twice we could sit at any open seating. Fortunately we had Josue who made us feel welcomed and special on our very special evening. The surprise Desert was the cherry on the top of the evening. Looking forward to our next visit.

Kale bacon walnuts and apple salad
Jaydee D.

Dinner 5.24.26 Yet, again, they did not disappoint. This time stomach not too well, so salad of kale bacon walnuts with feta so delicious, with nice tart green slices of apple. Plus, I paid a bit more for french onion soup without cheese, omg what a delight! Quite steep for the soup, but hey I did not cook. Sometimes i take a break haha. Service is always superb, and presentation of food is nice and clean. Bf had the boneless wings of parmesan garlic, too crunchy but flavor is amazingly awesome. Parking out back is quite full even of we planned 4pm dinner. Bathrooms clean is a plus.

We were walking around the village and decided to stop in here for dinner. The restaurant was pretty crowded, which is a great thing. It was a rather chilly evening so we requested to sit indoors. This restaurant looks extremely upscale, but the servers and the employees are all down to earth very gracious and willing to help. We were promptly seated and asked for a drink order. When our server returned with the drinks, he asked if we had any questions about the menu. We didn't and placed our orders. My wife ordered the Oakside burger and sweet potato fries, and I ordered the French dip along with sweet potato fries. The wife thoroughly enjoyed her burger. It was cooked to perfection. The bun was fresh and the condiments crisp. She also really liked her sweet potato fries. They were hot and freshly prepared. I ordered the beef dip that was served on a unique roll that was outstanding. It really set off the whole sandwich. The Ajou was great, and the fresh horseradish was on point. The entire sandwich tasted amazing. Also, I enjoyed the sweet potato fries. This was a very nice dining experience. We will definitely be going back again when we're hungry for something more than just sandwiches. Their menu looked outstanding with some great looking steaks and seafood. This is a great little location. Highly recommended if you're in the area.

This place is a must for dinner in big bear! Or evening cocktails upstairs! The food is great and also priced great and the upstairs bar is SO nice! Probably one of the nicest bars in big bear. And our server Jamie s. was outstanding! We've been coming to big bear for 40 years and this place is the best.

Started out, heading to a different venue, learning however, this town closes early and I mean early! Here is my story On one hand, my journey to big Bear Valley was defeated because snow was scarce. And, I had to learn how to find the bald eagles. That is my preference now on to oak side I'm guessing Oakside as the place to go locals and visitors alike. Street level is patio dining upstairs second level is covered and rather dark. Food menu is what anyone can expect from a local pub restaurant diner Same thing can be said about their alcoholic beverages or their non-alcoholic alcoholic beverages You do need to check in with the gal downstairs if you want to sit on the street level patio dining. Otherwise walk up the stairs and sit at the bar. Food was decent. Service was excellent. If I'm ever in the area again.(I'm sure I will be) I definitely stop in again

Kale apple bacon salad description

Got up to Big Bear today for a long Weekend, and after a long day we were just craving really good salad and a beer for my man! So very glad we chose Oakside. It's, um, March 19th and we sat on the rooftop outside! Yup! Great ambiance with a view of entering Big Bear and the beautiful moon tonight. Shelby, the manager, was super friendly, sweet and helped us with our meal and Kalley was such a pleasant, high-energy waitress who were both great. Salads- well - hit the spot and more!! Jeremie's Caesar salad was topped with delicious and juicy chicken, flavorful house made croutons and Caesar dressing. Side of garlic bread- yum! Mine! All the treats! The kale apple bacon salad- minus the kale (because I'm just a romaine kinda gal). Sweet dried cranberries and green apples, perfect feta crumbles and bacon, with this amazing apple cider vineagrette! And that superb touch of garlic bread. (I could have eaten a whole loaf). I'd like that dressing in a bottle please! We didn't stay long bc we had people arriving, but will definitely be back. Thank you Shelby and Kalley for great service and delicious salads that hit the spot! Few times we've been up here so far and we haven't found our spots yet, but you're one now!

Very happy to have a properly made old fashioned with a BIG CUBE.

Had dinner here last night with my fiancé and both of us were so thoroughly impressed by every aspect of our experience - that I just had to log-in to write this review. There were a a handful of people waiting to be seated when we arrived and the couple before us were seated at the last outdoor patio table available. The hostess told us that we could go upstairs to the bar area and sit anywhere we wanted and a server would be with us directly. So that's what we did. As a side note, the whole vibe of the restaurant was very comfortable and the building itself is pretty remarkable. Water and menus were delivered within minutes of us selecting our table, and our waitress Victoria maintained that same level of attentiveness the whole time we were there. The biggest shortcoming of so many restaurants in and around Big Bear is the bar and their specialty drinks. But this place just slam dunked on every other restaurant we've ever tried over the years - and not just for the drinks. I love a good old fashioned but until last night, every place I'd been to served their old fashioned in a glass full of ice like I was getting a soda at a fast food drive through. Not here. A proper big block ice cube made the "Maple old fashioned" (hands down) the best drink I've ever had. (I think they've got like 7 or 8 different varieties of the old fashioned and I will definitely be back to try them.) Our potato skins appetizer was on another level and that was before our entrees even arrived. My beef dip sandwich was perfect as was wifey's chicken Scaloppini. The timing of food arriving and the periodic check-ins from our waitress was flawless. We spoke briefly with the bartender, Doug (who may or may not have been one of the owners) to express how much we enjoyed our drinks and dinner. The hallmark of a well-run restaurant is that everyone who works there conducts themselves like it's their name on the sign out front. That's exactly what we got from everyone involved. Whoever is in charge of the kitchen staff deserves a Michelin star rating. The rest of the staff is equally impressive. I can't say enough about this place. Excellent drinks, excellent food and dynamite service. If you want a top-notch dining experience in Big Bear, this should be your first and only choice. From now on, it'll be mine.

Our wait time confirmation
Ash F.

We were quoted a 15-25 minute wait, which somehow turned into nearly an hour. Apparently, Oakside measures time the same way airlines measure "a slight delay." We're a family of four with a well-behaved standard poodle, so we completely understood that our seating options were limited. What we didn't understand was watching two other families with dogs arrive after us and get seated well before us, along with what felt like half of Big Bear. Our "table is ready" text finally arrived 53 minutes after we joined the waitlist. If the real wait is an hour, just say an hour. At least then we could have taken our dog for a hike, grabbed lunch somewhere else, and possibly returned in time for our table.

Ask the Community - Oakside

What time is the happy hour start and finish?

Hello John, although we do not have an “official“ happy hour, every hour at Oakside is a happy one😉

Are you busy on Fourth of July?

Generally Big Bear tends to be busy through the 4th of July weekend! We will usually stay busy throughout the day until people go to get settled for the firework show.

Can you eat at the bar?

Yes! We serve our full menu at the bar.

Do you recommend making a reservation for memorial day weekend?

We are not currently accepting reservations/ walk-ins only. There may be longer wait times than usual with the holiday weekend, so we recommend coming to put your name down a bit earlier than when you plan to dine. Hope this helps!

Do they do takeout orders?

We do not offer takeout!

Are you open New Year's Day?

Yes we are!

Are you open Thanksgiving day?

We are closed on Thanksgiving day to allow our staff to enjoy the day with their families. Thank you!

Open on Christmas Day?

We are closed on Christmas Day, open on Christmas Eve.

Will you be open during veterans days?

Yes, we are open our regular hours this weekend.

Happy hour? Does this place have one?

We do not offer a happy hour at this time.

When are you bringing the breadsticks back?

Good spot to watch the game?

Yes the upstairs is basically a sports bar

Are small dogs allowed on patios?

Yes, we do allow well behaved dogs on our patios, we just ask that they stay under the table space for their safety and the safety of our staff!

Are you taking reservations for Easter?

We are not currently taking reservations, but walk ins are welcome!

Do you know when outdoor or indoor dining will reopen or if it is open currently? Thanks!

We are open for take out only. We have no way of knowing when we will be allowed to reopen, per the covid restrictions in CA and San Bernardino County.

Hi will you be opened on Christmas Eve for take out?

Yes we will!

Are you only open for take out now?

Yes, as of now we are only open for take out.

Are you offering Thanksgiving dinner next week?

We will be closed for thanksgiving this year to allow our staff to spend time with their families.

Do you accept reservations for a group of 7-8?

Sorry, we are not taking reservations at this time.

When and what is their happy hour?

I’m sorry, but we do not have happy hour. We do, however, offer a full bar once you are seated

We stopped by pretty early for dinner, around 5ish, so this was just before we started seeing a bunch of people come in for dinner. We were glad we came when we did because we were able to get seated in less than five minutes. Since we were a party of six, we definitely ordered quite a bit. We got two medium pizzas, some pasta, and wings. The pizzas were super delicious! We got the Bambino's Chicken Pesto and Fito's Favorite pizzas. They came out hot and were loaded with toppings. The crust was nice and crispy, and the topping-to-crust ratio was perfect. I'd definitely say the pizzas were my favorite out of everything we ordered. The pasta was okay, not my favorite, but still enjoyable. The noodles were definitely cooked more on the well-done/soft side, whereas I personally prefer my pasta al dente. The pasta was also super saucy, and there was quite a bit of it, so you definitely get a good portion. The wings were pretty much what you'd expect from a standard wing. They were juicy and had a nice flavor on their own. Paired with the dipping sauces, though, they took on some different flavors, which I really enjoyed. I also really liked the vibe here. The quality was so much better than it was expected...I actually loved the character of this restaurant that you can feel from handwritten colorful boards, funny signs, cute bottle decorations and in my case, the Corona display that said in the box " in Case of tacos, break glass..."It had that casual and cantina energy that you can feel only in Mexico...and it makes this place feel even more fun rather than dry and polished... The order was their famous grilled shrimp on the stone (forsure order this one), avocado fries, shrimp ceviche (very refreshing) with extra avocado and definitely their margarita which my order was mango house one (so delicious).....This place, get a margarita forsureeee. Their cocktail and menu drink is kind of huge so lot if great choices...Service was welcoming and our waiter was very fast...Price was reasonable...There is also free parking outside... Overall....Old building? Yassssss...Fancy? No, not at all...Delicious, full of character, colorful and fun? Definitely a big Yes...

Not often I give bad reviews. But this place is an embarrassment to Mexican Food…read more Such a disappointment, they really need to improve their food. The service was ok. I asked for Chilaquiles with red sauce. Here is what was wrong. - The rice was old/reheated and hardly any flavor. - I asked for scrambled eggs. These were so overcooked almost burnt , my 5 year old child would have known better not to serve them. you couldn't tell it was eggs. - Enchilada sauce was canned and dark, also reheated. In a touristic place like Big Bear, don't do this to people!!!
