The Oaks has a large lobby with many paintings and sculptures. The concierge is attentive and pleasant, easy to engage. The rooms are large. Beds moderate to slightly soft but supportive. The shower is actual tile and the shower head sprayer is generous and there is a wand for those hard to reach areas. The restaurant is like an upper class establishment. We stayed in a river view room, the beds were absolutely so comfortable. The husband loves pillows and they had pillows. The room was good size and the shower was huge, loved the shower head. We ate breakfast there in the morning and food was fabulous. It was so worth our stay. Everyone was so kind and went above and beyond as we stayed because of a family emergency. We were looking for a layover spot on our way home from visiting the family in NC and stumbled on this place. So glad we did! We had stayed n Darien before and really liked it but there is not much for dining and night life. The Oaks definitely help that! Beautiful hotel right on the river. Great rooms with balconies. Ours faced the river so we have awesome sunset views and morning views with coffee. They also have a really nice restaurant. I did a separate review for them but it was really good. The pool area is really nice and relaxing but also has a bar. Great to take a swim after driver all day. We were upgraded with a corner suite room. So nice! Lots of light from the windows. Nice living area with lots of space. The bed slept really nice. Pillows were nice and fluffy. Not the normal sandbags most places have. Awesome shower! Very big and lots of hot water. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We will be back. read more

Between the food that is borderline substandard and the service is just as bad, I really liked the place but the new chef hasn't a clue when it comes to flavor and in my opinion is a Waffle House trained cook not a chef, why? due to him weighing down a perfectly good filet and thinking it would pass for a real filet. From the check-in glass of champagne to the elegantly appointed room, we enjoyed our one[night stay immensely. The staff and manager were ingratiating, the happy hour was delicious and a great bargain, the breakfast was delicious and the bed was quite comfortable. the view is beautiful and the local artwork is exceptional. We hope to go back and have time to explore Darien and soak up the local history. We would highly recommend it. read more

Great hotel with great accommodations. My only question is that I had the breakfast special as part of my hotel stay yet the hostess, an elderly white woman, made me sign a check each day that me and my son ate breakfast. On the last day, the hostess, who was black, said that the voucher was all that she needed. As a result, there was some discrepancy in the charge when we checked out that I think was resolved but not sure. My son and I did order items other than the breakfast special so I think that maybe the issue was resolved, but with an extra 53 dollars added. I don't want to believe that our encounter with the white hostess was racist, but I am inclined to believe so. I showed her the breakfast vouchers each day that we went to breakfast. What a hidden gem!! My husband and I were driving our car down to Florida and needed a place to stay. I googled Hotel with a restaurant and Oaks on the River popped up. From the girl who greeted us at the front desk we got a warm, welcoming feeling. We got a room with a river view. We were happy to walk in to a clean, coastal room with robes! We went downstairs to their beautiful restaurant with all high back chairs and cozy ambiance. The food was delicious and REASONABLE. Rebecca, our waitress was fun, kind and gave us great insight on the area. We woke up to a beautiful view. There's a river walk behind the hotel you can go for a nice stroll. We had a delicious breakfast for $6.95! We are from NY and you would never find a fresh cooked breakfast for that price. All the staff were wonderful, kind and courteous. We normally stay right on i-95, but next trip we will ABSOLUTELY travel the extra 5 minutes off the highway to stay at this place. ​ read more

Joined a 'Splash dance' class in the pool was fun!! $15. Sauna afterward. The sauna is huge. Did not see a hot tub anywhere. 'Kathryn' the instructor was very conscious about my comfort and safety. This place just wholly missed the mark on Darien. I'm sure if you're 75+ and used to your nursing home, this is a resort. The food was the worst we've had on this coast and the menu had nothing you can't get in better form from the old stop across the street. The head bartender didn't know how to make an espresso martini, which was on the menu, and ordering an Aperol spritz blew the minds of the waitress and the bar staff at a "luxury boutique resort." The decor is, at best, an outdated attempt at upscale beach art. Your mother in law wouldn't want it. We should have known the quality when we walked in on a Sunday at 12 for lunch and the only other group was another couple, clearly already disgruntled. The manager looked like he previously worked at a Jos A Bank and cared more about his, again outdated, garb than the attention of all of us wasting our time at his establishment. 0/10. The view was from the public boat dock, not sure why you would pay to enjoy it. Could not have been worse for what was advertised. read more

We had dinner here with friends two nights ago. The hotel was decorated beautifully for Christmas which set the mood for a festive dinner. Our server, Brandi was well informed and very accommodating. All 4 of us enjoyed the dinner. My husband's filet with a yummy demi glace was cooked just as he ordered and he said it was delicious. My friend and I both had the short ribs which were melt in your mouth delicious and so flavorful. Our other friend had pasta with chicken and Alfredo sauce, which was good but he wished he had asked for more sauce. If he had, I know Brandi would have gladly brought it. All in all it was a delicious meal and all 4 of us would definitely return. read more

We just had a fabulous experience here. This is a wonderful hotel, first rate, with great interiors in the restaurant and rooms. The dinner restaurant was recommended to us by locals and we are so glad. The food was excellent with charming views of the Darien river. Their capable staff and ambiance was perfect. We didn't use all of the numerous amenities but they are on their website. It was a great visit. Highly recommend! read more

Hotel has a serious operating and staff issues so please be aware and don't be fooled by other reviews. I was not given a copy of bill upon check out and asked them not to charge my credit card until they called me to discuss any additional charges which they did not do. When I checked my credit card I found they had overcharged me for food and extra night of $265 for the room plus another $54 on hotel fees. When I called to speak with the supervisor I was told he was off and he was the only who could make adjustments to my bill. I called the hotel general manager and never received a returned call. Calling once again, the front desk admitted their mistake, but again told me her supervisor was off and he was the only one able to make my adjustment. Of course, I asked for the general manager and was told he was busy running the hotel. Note: There were only 4 parties staying at the hotel and there was not enough help in the dinning room for evening meals so one was keep waiting considerably. I have now been home over a week and no one has called me to discuss this matter. This is not customer service fitting for any hotel let alone a luxury hotel. I have traveled extensively and never experienced such a problem or disrespect from a business operating in this manner. This incident took all the joy out of my trip as this issue could have been corrected immediately and not doing so speaks loudly for management caring about their property or guests. Our first visit at Oaks on the River was for their Thanksgiving Day lunch, and we are impressed! The buffet was excellent! A salad table with so many options, delicious turkey and a ton of sides, plus the best apple cranberry cobbler I've ever tasted! The wait staff was very attentive also. And that view of the river is hard to beat! This new resort hotel is lovely with a high end feel. We will be back! read more
