Absolutely wonderful. Open Gates is a very lovely, welcoming and comfy historic home whose owners and hosts clearly manage it with passion and high standards. Chef Zach was friendly and informative and knew one sure way to our hearts -- with a welcome punctuated by fresh baked chocolate chip cookies and a dynamite gourmet breakfast. The amenities and service truly deserve to be called world class. Thanks for a great (but too short) stay! read more

Great B&B. Beautiful home, great bed and linens. Very quiet and restaurants, brewery and shops within 5 minute walk. And Zach provided an awesome breakfast (ask for his crepes). Will definitely stay there again. read more

This is a locally-owned, beautiful, and historic bed and breakfast. It feels less like a business and more like you're staying over at your family's home. Okay, the gourmet breakfast is definitely not something I could whip up at home! Our room was comfortable, cool in the summer (with our own AC), bright and private. The grounds are lush and green, and it's clear the owners put a lot of love into it. What I most appreciate is that the owners have a sense of pride in their town, Darien, and it comes through in their chats with guests. Zach was also great about giving us a vegetarian breakfast with a twist on eggs benedict- it was delicious. read more

For some reason, my husband and I haven't stayed at a B&B for some time. What a wonderful way to return to the B&B experience! Open Gates is a great mix of historic home, lovely decor, and phenomenal hospitality. We were able to take a peek at all the rooms. Each retained traditional charm yet contained all the essentials a traveler needs for a comfortable enjoyable stay. Your breakfast will be plate licking delicious. There are the cutest innkeepper made oyster shell crafts for purchase in the lobby. I had to get one. If you have a minute, read the information booklet in your room. Open Gates and Darien have quite a history. Darien is a fun town just minutes off I-95. Skip those roadside hotels and come here. Thanks Zach and Carrie for a great visit. We're ready to return to Darien, but only if we can get a room at Open Gates. read more

First stay here at Open Gates and we have hardly left yet and I felt the need to go ahead and review this place. The house is gorgeous, the room is cozy, comfortable and beautiful. The home is very clean and smells fresh. The breakfast Zach made was some of the best I've ever had. The kitchen is gorgeous and the library was cozy. We will definitely be back to this hidden gem. If you need a relaxing place to stop on your trip or just want to get away this place is perfect for either. Thank you Zach and Carrie for having us. We can't wait to send our friends your way! read more

Open Gate Bed and Breakfast is a great option especially when you want to visit Jekyll Island and St. Simon Island. We did just that, and found it to be perfect. Darien, GA is the second oldest city in Georgia after Savannah, so it was like stepping back in time. We contacted Open Gate Bed and Breakfast, and wanted to stay in their pet friendly room. Unfortunately, it was not available for our dates. However, Zack was very accommodating and helpful, and we ended up staying at a nearby cottage that he knows the owners of. With that, we still were able to go to Open Gate Bed and Breakfast. Contact him with any questions or concerns, have breakfast, and enjoy the grounds of the B and B. There is an in ground pool perfect for the summer months. Breakfast is amazing, and we had breakfast there two days. It is served anytime between 8:00-9:00 AM but if would like it to be served later, let him know. You will be eating breakfast with all the other guests at the B & B so it's a nice experience. We had sweet crepe cigars with mascarpone and berries, bacon, and fruit one day, and the other day we had omelets. Both were very tasty. Definitely check this place out when you are planning to visit these areas. You will also learn about Darien, GA, a cute quaint town with an interesting history. It is quiet relaxing kind of place. read more

This was the nicest get away I could imagine! We are waiting for our house to be built and our daughter lives in a tiny apt on St Simons so this spot was perfect! We went over 4th of July weekend when prices were high for hotels and vrbo and airB&b's. The prices at Open Gates were so reasonable! We stayed for 4 nights! Zach (the owner) is wonderful! He met us on the charming front porch, took us to our beautiful room and gave us a tour of this amazing house. Of course he knew the history and showed us some of revisions that were made. He always had fresh cookies on the table at night! When we got into the beautiful 4 poster bed, I could not believe how soft the sheets were! There were guests staying in the other two rooms upstairs as well as a couple in the downstairs room but you would never know you weren't alone! It was quiet! The first morning we went downstairs for the most delicious breakfast! We met the other owner, Carrie who was the sweetest! The coffee was hot and delicious and plentiful! At each place setting was a beautiful fruit plate clearly arranged by an amazing chef! Then the eggs Benedict were served by our award winning chef, Zach! Delicious! Zach had suggestions of where to go and things to do in the area. Every morning the breakfasts were just as good as the previous mornings. (Be sure to ask Zach about his award winning breakfast! He's a little shy about it!) I really enjoyed getting to know the fellow visitors from all over, all ages and all walks of life! Facebook friends with some of them! The next night was 4th of July so we went down to the River front for fireworks. The place was packed but everyone was happy! Zach was there and I saw (maybe) most of the locals find him for a hug or a handshake. He stopped and talked with us and then got pulled away by a grey haired lady who wanted to say hello and deliver a hug! It's clear that Zach and Carrie love their little town and the people and businesses in it! I'm sure next time I come I'll see Zach for mayor signs!!! I really recommend Open Gates B&B, and the charming and historical town of Darien! read more

Due to an infinitely delicate taste and an annoying critical approach to all things in life, my 5 star ratings are as rare as the leaf of a vegetable in the digestive tract of the Georgian wanderer. This is a marvelous BnB: a beautifully furnished and vast house from the end of the 19th century. The hosts are wonderful and cook a delicious breakfast in the morning. read more

This was mine and my husband's first bed and breakfast experience and it did not disappoint us. Chef Zack and his wife Kerry were more than accommodating to us. We were a group of 6 and loved staying here. The house is an estate made built almost 140 years ago and Chef Zack cooked us daily breakfast. We had delicious gourmet breakfast items such as eggs Benedict and also fluffy irresistible crepes filled with mascarpone cheese and berries. We had daily juice, coffee, cookies, Danish sweets, local made chocolate and fresh fruit. Definitely a gem in this beautiful little coastal town with affordable prices. read more

This was my first ever B & B. Beautiful huge kick-ass mansion replete with LIBRARY fashioned with log cabin-like walls and towering built-in shelves filled with books that were actually interesting. Plus for breakfast we were served delicious shrimp + grits by the mayor of Darien. Classy joint. read more

We were in town and needed a place to stay at the last minute and the owners accommodated us. Great night of sleep, just a good feeling happy place. The breakfast was also awesome! I heard the owner is a chef but he was out of town. The guy who made our breakfast was great too! Can't wait to stay there again! read more

This B&B is an absolute GEM. Gorgeous historical home with very spacious bedrooms. Beds and bedding are comfy and cozy. Great bathrooms with everything you need. The town of Darien and surrounding Islands are packed with things to do and see. Local businesses are all spectacular. The most extraordinary thing about this B&B are the breakfasts. Owner and Chef Zach offered up award winning crepes, savory omelette and Darien Shrimp Delight...an amazing dish where shrimp and grits meets eggs Benedict. Cannot say enough about this B&B experience!!!! read more

My family randomly selected this B&B last year as an antidote the Okefenokee Swamp National Park, from which we were returning. We enjoyed it so much we returned to the Park and the B&B in Darien this year. The rooms are wonderful but the breakfasts are superb in every detail. The location is perfect. We will return. read more

Open Gates Bed & Breakfast - We rented a small cottage bc the inn was full - Bed & Breakfast Near Me - Darien, Georgia

the owner is the worse + the property is nice = not staying there again. (we gave it two chances) the husband does the B&B duties which = sad.. we arrived in the cold weather season in the afternoon, my wife asks if there was any coffee nearby, the husband says he has some coffee leftover from this morning...the husband has to force himself to make coffee for his guests?...for breakfast he cooked us shrimp & grits topped with a thick chicken stock...just knowing we have to be in his presence, he is a downer...the first time we stayed there, there were minimal occupancy, we connected well with everyone but the owner never acknowledged me or thank me for staying in his business. due to my infinitely delicate taste of all things customer service & guest experience, I was forced to choose at least a star. read more
