I was driving the area and stumbled upon the absolute most adorable ice cream and snack spot!
In a sea of tree lined streets filled with beautiful homes sits Oakland General, owned by the same owners as West Orange Creamery, right in front of the Healthy West Orange Arts and Heritage Center. If you have not visited Oakland, it's worth a visit. Bring your bikes, ride the streets, and end your visit with a treat from Oakland General. The architecture is a mix of Colonial Revival, Craftsman, Spanish Colonial, Victorian and other scattered styles. The entire area is pristinely manicured and you can even visit an herb garden right next to Oakland General.
The shop had a variety of ice cream flavors, smoothies, ice pops, and even some savory options including grilled cheese and a breakfast sandwich. I really appreciated the amount of dairy free items they have. The staff were friendly and helpful when I couldn't decide between two options. We tried a Key Lime Coconut Ice pop and Mint Chip Ice Cream; both perfect on a hot day!
This tiny spot is worth a visit, and Oakland is a beautiful town with classic American charm. Be sure to pass by the town hall and appreciate the brick lined roads! read more
