My spouse and I are staying at a local Airbnb in town about five minutes from here and it was a…read morerainy evening so we wanted to grab a bottle of wine or two. I headed to watering can wines and I couldn't have possibly been more pleased with my experience. I expected to walk into a small wine shop, and instead I was greeted in a beautiful open marbled lobby space by two individuals serving tastings and glasses, as well as several tables of happy patrons, chatting, drinking, and snacking. I asked if it were possible to purchase some wine bottles and where that might be located and the most lovely woman I have ever met, Dianne, showed me the old wine shop space, the new space, and the temporary space while the new space is set to be open. I shared my wine preferences with Dianne, who then suggested I try the Merlot that they have at the tasting bar. She and her lovely male counterpart poured me a very generous tasting while telling me about the history of their shop and the wine that I was drinking. I asked to peruse the Merlot section a bit further, and after giving me some time to ponder, Dianne joined and discussed what may be the best option for me. Dianne was incredibly kind and generous in her helping me choose my selection. My spouse and I are happily trying our first bottle and excited to try the other. We plan to return to the airbnb we are at and are equally excited to return to watering can wines and see Dianne again! Hopeful to be able to stay and enjoy a glass on sight next time! A small, but extremely serviceable collection of just about whatever you would want in all price ranges. These are hand picked selections that I know have been tried by the owner, and offered for excellent price to value ratios. Honestly, I think I could come in here and find just about any grape and style I'm looking for, maybe not multiple brands for each, but very solid selections you can't go wrong. Pair the outstanding wine selection with some nicely chilled beers from around the world, and a ton of really cute and useful wine knick knacks, and you've got a The Village Wine Shop. I inquired about the wine tasting for $5.00 and was told you would receive 2 tastings of white wine. Perhaps they do reds on a different night but I didn't ask. There is a written wine list of reds and whites to order full glasses of whites or reds which should suffice. I asked folks what they were drinking and there were many red wine-o's ha ha. The Bordeaux drinkers were happy with their choice and the Malbec drinkers were satisfied with their choice and commented the wine was soft. I chose a cold Chenin Blanc mostly cuz I haven't seen it on a menu in the Triad for quite some time. It was quite good great nose of sweetness but dry enough to be a good all round table wine. Its similar to Pinot Gregio but not dry or tart. I think when I'm back in GSO I will stop in to this unique wine bar again as it was a nice experience and everyone seemed very chill and friendly.
