9yr resident here. I'm preparing to move out ONLY because work's relocating me somewhere else in socal. Seriously, they're dragging me kicking and screaming out of here. This was my first apartment after moving out of my parents' place back in 2011, so I've gone through that whole process of being a naive, fresh-out-of-college grad to status as a full fledged veteran resident right here at Oak Park. For that, this place will always occupy a soft spot in my heart. Living somewhere for nearly an entire decade, things will fall into a state of disrepair over time, just by natural entropy. So over the past ~3 years, I've been running into random issues. Dishwasher broke down at one point, drains got clogged, leaks in the plumbing under the bathroom sink, etc. Every single time I've ever had an issue, I've always been able to pop into Mirna's or Danielle's office, interrupt them no matter how busy they are, and quickly state the problem I'm having. They've always given me their full attention, logged the work order, scheduled the repair work on the spot, verify if I want to be present to supervise or if they have permission to perform the repair while I'm not there, and my issues get fixed within 1-2 days. Literally that same day or the very next day, even weekends. Those weirdos are here Saturday and Sunday and I've gotten my random crap fixed on weekends within a day of having something break. So all that said, the only real minor con I have is that the smoke detectors are somewhat sensitive (I can, ahem, confirm this, cough cough, personally). I cook regularly, and I have to be pretty careful about searing steaks, for example. Come to think of it, some people might not even see that as a con, since despite an alarm going off randomly every month or so, fire department response is basically immediate and we've never had any fire related events. On top of that, it's hard to beat the location. Oak Park is perfectly central to Downtown Monrovia. Paradis Ice Cream and various boba spots are littered just down the street. There's a public library and movie theater within easy walking distance, and it's just a nice, quaint, area overall littered with random local foodie gems. The weekly farmer's market/fair takes place right outside on the main street. It used to be really bustling before Covid19, but in recent weeks it's been substantially picking back up (if that's your thing). Right now they have mask checkpoints and designated walking lanes, but the food trucks and produce vendors and a bunch of the tents that sell various knick-knacks are trickling their way back in. Man, typing this out, it's just reminding me how sad I am to have to leave. Like, look at my review history. This is the first positive review I've ever written. If something pisses me off, I'll say it, I'll be brutal about it, and I'll leave forever. After the ~9 years I've lived here, I can't find anything to be mad about. Stay away! The new management is big time scammer. We moved out the end of Aug, cleaned the house spotless and dropped off all the keys with a note in the dropbox because they failed to be there on the day of our move out despite saying they would previously, and have not received any deposit back yet! It's been 3 MONTHS!!! Every time I call they acknowledge that they owe us but ask for a few more days with no more explanation as to why it takes this long. Based on California law they are obligated to give us the deposit maximum 21days after moving out with the list of reasons why they deduct any part of that. Looks like we need to go ahead with the legal process. read more

Searching everywhere for an apartment to move to, and when I went to the Oak Wood apartments, the staff was very friendly and very helpful! They showed me several places,and I chose the place that I love and adore. I've never seen a place kept so clean in I'm my life. The floors every in the hallways, they keep it nice and fresh smelling. If you want a safe place ti move to, here's your place, it's highly secure, you have to use a key to get into the building. *Please Read Before Renting* I recently moved out of the Oak Park Apartments, and I wish I had known a couple of things before moving in. The biggest: upon moving out, building ownership charges you for preparing the apartment for the next resident. Therefore, regardless of how clean you leave the space (I left it perfectly clean), you will see $275 come off your deposit no matter what. The administration will say there's a clause in your lease that specifies you must pay for professional cleaning upon moving out, but there's no such thing. Ultimately, don't expect to get your deposit back, no matter how good of a tenant you are. Additionally, you should know that (1) the building fire alarms are extremely sensitive and are directly linked to the local fire department, meaning there will be a fire truck at your building at least twice a month. (2) The apartment doors are thin, so you will hear everything in the hallways. (3) The AC units are not strong enough to keep your apartment cool in the height of the summer. (4) They're preparing to demolish the building to build a luxury development (*sigh*), so don't sign a lease if you plan on staying long-term. And finally, (5) they WILL try to increase your rent by the maximum amount every year. I would have taken the building to small claims court had I not moved out of state. Since moving, the leasing office has been entirely unresponsive. Sadly, their tactic of ghosting me has worked. I'd drop names, but that's not my style, and since only two people work there, I wouldn't gamble on who you'll get anyway. I'll admit that I really enjoyed the building when I first moved in, but my experience went downhill. Similarly, when I first moved in, living at Oak Park was a steal, but now the prices are comparable to many of the nicer buildings in the area. Take your business elsewhere. I was recommended this complex by a coworker and my girlfriend & I were eager to move in. We applied and submitted a down payment. One of my background checks from different counties in which I previously lived were received and all of my girlfriend's backgrounds were received. Funny however, we waited weeks (nearly over a month) for Oak Park to receive my background check from L.A. County. They even asked for another 2 weeks extension. Instead, we cancelled the application because I've never had a problem moving anywhere because of a background check. But the pathetic part is that I, actually, have been working for the L.A. County for 25 years. So upon cancelling the applications, I suggested that this complex consider hiring a more experienced agency to handle their background checks. read more

Oak Park is a wonderful apartment community. I lived here for 2 years and never had an issue. Denise is one of the most kind and helpful apartment managers I've had. She has even let in a couple times when I locked myself out of my apartment. Andy and the rest of the maintenence staff are also stand out. Always so nice and helpful and are super nice to my dog. The apartment has been updated nice and I really enjoyed the plank floors and soft grey walls. The windows are nice and tall which added the perfect amount of light for houseplants. The neighborhood is lovely and every Friday there is a night market down the street. There are fabulous restaurants all within walking distance as well. Overall wonderful experience living here. read more

Update: this place has (literally) gone down hill. Like it's sinking into the foundation. The roof is leaking, all of the wood is rotting,and the building is actually sinking into the 1st floor. One day we heard someone waking on the roof and then they stapled a tarp over our balcony we found out a few weeks later that it's not safe to walk on our balcony because of the recent rains and water damage. It's been 4 or 5 weeks and the tarp is still here covering our windows. We went to the leasing office to renew our lease for our 4th year and they told us there's going to be major construction going on. They said they may relocate us to another apt or hotel but there's no guarantee. We definitely didn't want to stay through all that construction, based on what they told us it would take a long time. They would be replacing beams and balconies and we just decided to give our notice to move out. The worst part is that they're not letting us move out 1 month before our lease ends. We have to move into our new place soon so we're stuck paying rent for both places. It's worth the money to get out of this Titanic building. Do not move here unless you are very very desperate for housing. Besides the structural issues, this place has bed bugs and carpet beetles, the washing machines are always covered in dog hair and will make your clothes actually look dirtier, the fire alarms go off literally every week too. The fire dept just drives by when they get called because it's so common. The new management is always looking for ways to rip off tenants. read more

Oak Park - Apartments Near Me - Monrovia, California

Let me start by saying that my review is purely for the initial move-in process as a new resident... On that note: I moved from across the country and in a hurry. Moving alone isn't new for me, but it was my first time moving from coast-to-coast. I stayed in AirBnb's until I found a place to call home: Oak Park. It has been 48 hours and with brand new management, things have been slightly hectic and chaotic in terms of the administrative aspects of leasing and moving into a new apartment community. On top of this, the personal stress of moving to a new state was a lot to juggle. But there were superstars who made the overall move successful and enjoyable (and still are!)... The community is a mix of characters, but I have met some genuinely kind and wonderful new neighbors so far. The building is older than I would have preferred, but they seem to be slowly making renovations and updates to the entire structure that helped me decide to live here than paying double for a brand new apartment community with little character. The location is A+. It truly does not get better. Seconds from busy Myrtle Street is a blessing. There's live music, happy people, delicious dining, cute shops, and plenty to see & do. Including a weekly Friday outdoor Farmers Market! Although the building is a bit older, there is an elevator! Yes! This makes it very convenient for older residents, as well as handicapped residents. As someone who spent over a year in a disabled state (wheelchair and walker), I was very pleased to see that this building was well designed for handicapped and senior residents. And I hope they continue to update the building following this design. Let me wrap up by saying that what has made the move-in process incredible pleasant and easy for me was Oak Park's Maintenance Manager, Jeffrey. He was not only super considerate and respectful, but he was so helpful when I was clearly struggling with moving my boxes and bags, even though this is likely NOT a part of his job description. He went out of his way to offer his time and strength to help me out with heavy luggage. He seems to be hard-working and I look forward to having him being a part of the Oak Park staff. In contrast, the leasing manager has seemed frazzled since day one; she said she was brand new on the property, and although she was very professional and kind, she and the other temp in the leasing office seemed a bit out of place and I wished I was able to get more clear and precise answers to my pre-move in questions during the leasing process (about my parking space, gate access, etc). Nonetheless, they were kind and always had a big smile on, so I felt welcomed and respected, which was what tipped me over the line and decided to live here! I am grateful for their hard work. Ultimately, I'm already starting to love and embrace the lovely Oak Park community (seriously, the location cannot be beat...) and I hope that as they continue to quickly update the building and it's amenities, I can be here to enjoy it all. I'm very happy to recommend this apartment to anyone from near or far. I feel safe, welcome, supported (thanks Jeffrey!), and at home. read more

Living here was a true nightmare come to life. Everything was generally fine until the new building manager, Mirna, came. The apartment itself has some big problems. I could never use my oven because the fire alarms are very easily triggered. Once the whole building alarms went off when I was making toast. I didn't burn the toast, they're just that sensitive. At least once a week the whole building is woken up by fire alarms and the fire department has to come shut them off. If there's ever a problem the maintenance guy, Jeffery, is very quick to help but Mirna refuses to do anything to help residents. Once, she towed everyone's cars because she randomly decided to do maintenance on the structure. Nothing was changed but many residents had to pay for their cars being towed. My biggest issue came when I had a bedbug infestation. If you read old reviews you'll see this building has long had issues with bed bugs. The thing is they will not do anything to actually help the issue. Many apartments were effected by the bed bugs, not just mine. I got bed bugs because another apartment had a bad infestation and they come to your apartment once a week for some nonsense reason and after they entered a room with bedbugs they brought them into mine. I asked Mirna to quickly take care of this but she did not. It took a good week of me following up daily to get them to send someone to come spray the apartment. When the person did that, he told me if he came earlier the infestation would've been easier to treat. Sadly Mirna did not allow them to do this. I had to throw out most of my furniture, take multiple days off of work to prep the apartment for numerous treatments and this ultimately cost me thousands of dollars. I could not sleep in my apartment because the bites I got from the bedbugs daily for a month were severe. I was not reimbursed for rent and had to pay out of pocket to sleep elsewhere. I contacted Brenda (the resident liaison) for help. She did not answer my calls for weeks. When I finally spoke to her she told me my options are to either keep paying rent for an apartment I cannot sleep in because it was infested with bed bugs or sign a release to leave and not sue them, but get my security deposit back. She proceeded to be volatile and I decided to leave. They did not give me my security deposit back in full as promised. I also had a major cockroach problem that they never addressed and once woke up with a cockroach on my arm. Mirna gave my phone number out to vendors without my permission and random men began to call me. This was all very unprofessional. After I moved out I was contacted by more residents who said they found cockroach's in their apartments or black mold that causes severe health problems. They offer incentives to people to write good reviews so if you're wondering why some people say positive things I'm confident that's why. The building is literally sinking into the ground and the rain has caused structural damage where we were no longer allowed to use our balconies. Brenda and Mirna are the worst things to have happened to this building and if they are removed from their jobs this place has a chance to be improved. Until then I suggest you do not sign a lease especially if you don't want bed bugs and cockroach's and mold. Or if you don't like to be harassed by management who will post things on the internet about you and give your private phone number out. When a company has to make you sign something saying you won't sue them just so that you can actually sleep without being bit by bugs they placed in your apartment, it's a bad sign. read more

Review update: I am sad to say this building has really changed a lot in the past year, specifically with the new manager- Mirna. I have lived here for 3 years and always loved this place because it felt like a community. Since she has started I have seen a change in the dynamic here, going from peaceful to stressful. She is not friendly, often on her phone when you pass the office and unprofessional with her communication of things going on at the property. With that being said, I had originally still planned to renew my lease this spring in hopes that these issues would resolve or we would get a new manager. Recently, there have been issues with the balcony. There were randomly tarps dropped to cover our balcony and we were not notified why until several days later the why- because the rains had made the balcony's unsafe and we were advised not to use them. It's been a common pattern of unprofessional communication with this new manager. On the day I had a meeting set to renew my lease with Mirna I requested an update on the situation. We had received several notices about inspections but with no follow up. Mirna proceeded to tell us that not only is there issues with the balcony but there is issues with the foundation rotting and sinking. She could provide no guarantee that our unit wouldn't be affected and said we may temporarily have to relocate to a hotel at some point due to the extreme construction. We decided not to renew the lease and had to scramble to make other arrangements. We then put in our notice and requested to be released 1 month early to which Mirna flatly responded no and refused. It wasn't until we had to reach out to upper management that we got any decent response. All in all I'm highly disappointed with how much this place has changed. I wanted to update my review. I been here since 2014 and was really happy. But for the last year there's been so many people who moved that smoke. Now it's affecting my health, my wife's and most importantly we fear for our daughters health. Our bathroom smells like an ash tray. There's times when I walk in that you literally feel dizzy. This is no way to live. Management seems to want to help but it's not getting better. I don't care what you do in your own space, but my bathroom should not smell like a car exhaust. My family has even recommended we seek legal advice. We have started to look into our options. I don't want to go that far but I'm over the smell. I have reached my breaking point. If their allowed to enjoy their place why can't we. MOVE IN AT YOUR OWN RISK! read more

This was a great place to live, with access to Monrovia DT as easily as it can get. If you want to live near Monrovia Downtown, go for it! For those who look into the older reviews, yes- there would have been issues faced by other residents earlier, but the management has changed and are doing their best! I have lived in this apartment/complex for 3+ years and I have been getting prompt responses when I needed any maintenance. I have seen the folks at the office change over the course of my time there and Mirna & her team were and are much professional and better than the previous office bearers! Lived here with my wife for 2 years. The management has been nothing but good to me. There were two instances that the ladies in the office went above and beyond. Once, Mirna was kind enough to come open up my apartment when I had forgotten my keys, note that this was 2am and she had clearly been out on the town. Another time Denise chased my car down the street on foot to tell me that I had dropped my lunch! The residents in the apartment itself are also very kind, with a diverse group of people. BEDBUGS! My parents have lived in this property for 14 years. Last year they got bedbugs. They are 80 years old. They had not purchased and new furniture, or traveled. They are too old and frail to do so.  They informed the front office that they think they have them. It took 3-4 months before management sent out an exterminator.  During this time I had called adult protective services and got them a social worker/advocate. That is the only reason management took them seriously and sent out an exterminator. As it turned out they had the bedbugs as well as 6 other apartments in the building. All of which were their friends. Management told my parents that they were ground zero and will have to pay $2200 to get rid of the bugs.   This is obviously something that cannot be proven since so many apartment there had been infested.  At the time the apartments were treated for the bugs my parents had to move out, and still pay rent. They were out of their home for 40 days. They had to discard all of their furniture, pay a moving company and move out of their home completely. Management removed all the carpet, put in hardwood floors and did the extermination. Since moving back in my parents purchased all new furniture, but the bugs weren't gone. Their home has been fumigated 5 additional times since moving back. They took a risk moving back and again they got the bugs. Well, it's been several months now since they could say they are bedbug free. My mother died in her apartment in April and now my father lives there alone.   Today, we found out that his next door neighbor, in the attached apartment has bedbugs. I want to move my father out of this building but he is still on a lease and doesn't want to breach his contract. I say that a constant infestation and displacement is definitely a breach of contract on the part of management. He is 80 years old, his wife died 3 months ago, he has spent thousands of dollars on hotels, the moving company, new furniture. This property continues to do the bare minimum, and sweep this under the rug. I cannot allow it. This property continues to rent out apartments at top dollar and does not disclose the bedbug infestation or the fact that several of the senior residents have died in their homes there.  Something needs to be done immediately read more

I just moved here about a week ago, and so far, every experience I've had has been beyond what I could ever expect! My biggest priority when searching for a home was safety, and this place is the most secured apartment building I've ever came across! Every entrance to public areas are locked, and there are cameras on the premises. The apartments themselves are beautiful and clean! The courtyard has big beautiful well kept trees and green grass, and almost everyone owns a dog! Not to mention it's located right in the hub of Oldtown Monrovia! The staff here are hospitable and immediately make you feel welcomed! Valerie has been nothing but sweet, fun, and informative. She made planning for this move extremely easy, and continues to make herself available which I greatly appreciate!! She doesn't make me feel like I'm bothering her even with all my questions! She always has a friendly and professional attitude! Jeffrey is the maintenance manager and he has been just as great! I had a light fixture that needed an extra light bulb, and he replaced the entire fixture (just because there was a crack in it) that same day!! I was extremely impressed with his high quality work ethic, and professionalism. He seemed to genuinely care that I was completely satisfied with my apartment. Having someone like this around is priceless!!! Elmer is very friendly and pleasant and keeps the common areas spotless. The laundry rooms are consistently kept clear and clean and always smells fresh! It's clearly evident that Oak Park is quality, with high standards to keep the residents feeling safe and comfortable. It's very obvious the management here does not care about anything but themselves! They are always entering apartments and they have a huge bed bug problem!!! They will not help you and will pretend to care to shut you up. They will lie about wanting to help you but when it comes down to it they'll say you're on your own. It's seriously horrible how they treat people who pay rent to live here and no one should live somewhere that they are treated like shit!! read more

When I first moved in my toilet backed up and human waste from the second and third floor poured out of my toilet and flowed through my hallway and onto my bedroom carpet causing a horrible stench for days. I was forced to sleep on my couch since my carpet below my bed smelled like sewage. I notified staff and they took about 5 days to have it cleaned. Approximately 4 days later my toilet backed up again and spilled sewage from the above floors all over my floor again. Human waste from the above floors all over my floors and my carpet. Three days went by and they had the carpet cleaned instead of replacing the carpet in its entirety. Our horrible apartment Manager MIRNA LEON comes off nice yet is a horrible person. MIRNA posted notices in #8 font that the flooring of our parking floor was going to be constructed and posted them in areas no one could see. I worked my night shift and arrived home at 6am and went to bed and woke up to my vehicle towed costing me $400. My own car was towed out of my own parking spot that I am assigned in my lease. I pay for this parking spot and MIRNA had my vehicle towed and others as well. Myself and my neighbors were out $400 to retrieve our vehicles. Immediately my neighbors began to end their lease and left. What made things worse was that Mirna did not have the construction workers actually start or complete the repairs to the parking floor. Therefore our vehicles were essentially towed for no reason. One unit that left even took MIRNA to court and won due to MIRNA violating the lease. Our community area is a relaxing atmosphere and I enjoyed watching TV there on different occasions and it is very frustrating to see that MIRNA continues to violate the lease by removing the remote controller so myself and other tenants can not access the TV in the community area. When I signed the lease I was told that we could have access to the community center as long as we followed the rules. I enjoy the location of the complex however, I am not pleased to live here. I believe living here is a toxic environment and seeing neighbors breaking their lease and or leaving after their lease is up is estimate that this management (Mirna) creates a horrible atmosphere to live in. read more

I've lived here for a little less than a year. The location is right next to Old Town Monrovia, so there a lot of great options that are a short walk away. There are occasionally social events like movie showings. There are a lot of friendly people, often couples or families. I haven't had any of the roach problems reported in some other reviews. Last time I checked, the website listed central AC, but you'll mostly be using a wall unit for heating and cooling. I can't really comment about what happens after you move out, but I haven't noticed any unexpected charges so far, and I got a bit of a discount on my rent because I had to wait an extra couple week before I could move in. read more

Potential renter beware!!! This is an older building that they have tried to upgrade but are unable to fix a lot of issues. Small apartments with paper thin walls. You can hear your neighbor's conversations without them having to raise their voice. Air conditioning is a wall unit in the living room & won't reach into your bedroom in the heat of the summer (even if you position fans in the hallway to help the cool air along). If you have neighbors that smoke, be prepared to be second hand smoking as well, the smoke comes though the vents in the ceiling & opening your windows to air it out does not help. LOUD fire alarms go off at all hours of the day & night for quite a long time because only the fire department can come & turn them off. Some pet owners do not leash their dogs or pick up after them so there are often piles of dog poop in the grass & sidewalks & small dogs that will run up yapping at you while you are on your way to the parking garage. Did I forget to mention the bed bugs? At least twice in the 12 months I lived there I received notices regarding bed bugs. I guess this is why they eventually tore up the hallway carpets & installed linoleum. The exit doors slam very loudly & on more than one occasion were broken, causing me to have to take my groceries the long way around to get into the building. I could go on about how terrible the office staff is as well but they seem to change every few months. Oh, and don't expect to get any of your security deposit back if you only stay for your 12 month lease. Even if you return your keys & have cleaned the place it is standard for them to charge a cleaning fee, carpet shampooing fee, & a (ridiculously high) repainting fee, which just happens to be the amount of your deposit. We have been living here for about 2 months and the only good things about this place are Denise, Jeffrey and the location. When we moved in we were treated horribly by Mirna Leon (the property manager). She basically told us that instead of fixing the issues we reported we could break our lease and pay the penalty. She made it clear that she would rather take our money than help us. We spoke with Denise who is always VERY helpful and she tried to assist. We then sent an email to the property manager (Mirna Leon) and asked that all communication be done in writing because all the repairs that were PROMISED to us had not been done AT ALL. We have sent several emails regarding different issues and we NEVER get a response from Mirna Leon. This is not an exaggeration, Mirna Leon LITERALLY NEVER responds. After finally giving up on the repairs we were then confronted by Mirna Leon regarding our service dog. She said that "someone" had reported that a dog was off their leash and that owners were not picking up after this dog. We assured her it wasn't us and informed her that we had seen dogs who were off their leashes several times. Mirna Leon told us that she would be sending out a reminder to all tenants regarding these issues. This was three weeks ago and we have yet to see a reminder. This proving that she does not follow through with ANYTHING. We have also been living with a huge plastic tarp over our balcony since the day we moved in. We have yet to be told why or for how long. We have received 2 notices on our door asking that we refrain from using the balcony until further notice because of the heavy rains. Well the rains have stopped and the tarp is still there. We still have had ZERO communication from management as to why they are still there and how long they will remain there. It is RIDICULOUS!!! The tarp traps the heat in so our apartment is extremely hot at times and very uncomfortable. We also had an issue with the smoke detector in our apartment. It was going off for two days and beeping like crazy. We have an infant and a dog and this caused nonstop crying and barking. When an email was sent to management informing them that our family had to leave OUR HOME because of this and asking that this be taken care of right away so that we can return to OUR HOME we were told that this issue would be handled. It was not until hours later when my boyfriend physically walked the smoke detector down to Mirna Leon's office that it was repaired. BUT before anything was done she was quick to tell him that the defective smoke detector was somehow our fault. There are also hidden fees that were never disclosed to us. I recently moved into the North Bldg at Oak Park Apartments in Monrovia and I've had a great experience so far. The management and maintenance team is really responsive and very helpful. Myrna, the manager made my move-In process as smooth as it could possibly be (my unit had a unique situation) but she worked it all out for me. The maintenance guy (I think he's name is Jeffrey) is awesome and takes care of any issues or concerns right away. The only thing I don't like about the place is the thin walls. You can hear everything, your neighbors' conversations, snoring, you name it... And also the fire alarms are easily triggered and go off constantly. We love living in Oak Park Apartments! My husband and I moved in mid last year and have really enjoyed getting to know the management, the neighbors and the location. Mirna and Denise in the office are just lovely and have been so accommodating during our move in process. There was a mistake made at the very beginning as we were shown a different floor plan for our apartment when we toured the building (by a temp employee). Mirna didn't hesitate in installing a door for us upon moving in, so that the floor plan matched the one we had originally been shown! We were stoked! They were also very accommodating in getting us a parking space as soon as possible. While we had to wait for a few weeks initially (based on timing of other tenants moving out) they did their best and we were all set up in a short time. Street parking isn't bad here anyway, which is great when we have friends come to visit. Jeffery the maintenance guy is also super nice and very quick to respond with any issues we may have. There hasn't been anything drastic go wrong, just the odd thing here and there, but he comes to check it out the same day and does great work. There were some problems a few weeks ago because of the heavy rains, and from what I could see, all staff were scrambling to find a quick solution. Tarps were used to protect the balconies for a time and also while maintenance was done to keep everyone safe. It's never fun to have to deal with disruptions, but considering the unusual weather (for LA!) I think the team did their best with what they had. It can't be easy to have wild weather curve balls thrown at you! Given how much stress it caused the management team during the downpours, I'm confident they'll be working toward more permanent solutions before next winter. And of course the adorable old town is what attracted us to the location in the first place. We love wandering out on a Friday night to stroll the farmers market on our doorstep, or walk to a movie or dinner on the main strip. It's like a little pocket of small town with just enough night life to stay interesting. I'm pretty sure we'll be sticking around for a while ;-) read more

There is a new maintenance manager now & things get done a lot quicker and with no excuses. Before you had to wait a few weeks until something you needed to get something fixed and the prior maintenance manager would just give people the runaround. Now all I do is put a service request and it gets done. I think the new management team is working together to make things go smoother around here. read more

My apartments plumbing would back up constantly. I lived here 2 years they would not fix it.. They gave me a plunger and said that's the way it is use this. I left the place spotless. And they still kept my cleaning deposit and even charged me for painting which was supposed to be on their dime. Like I said I think their management is one of the worst around. Update: 3/19/2019 I finally moved out from this cigarette smoking, bed bug and beetle infested apartment. I was forced to move out since we never came to a solution of getting rid of the cigarette smoke in my apartment. I literally experienced anxiety every time I walked into my apartment. It was inhabitable. When I asked to break my lease as previously offered by Brenda Torres at Corp it was denied. They kept giving me the run around and said I couldn't break the lease unless I had a doctors note. I got the drs note, But here's the real kicker, when the manager (Mirna Leon) called to let me know that Corp agreed to break my lease with no penalties, she told me "they agreed to break your lease if you stop posting bad reviews." And you know what I did, I starting laughing because I thought it was a joke. So the doctors note they requested wasn't suffice? I couldn't believe what she said. THIS IS UNPROFESSIONAL ON SO MANY LEVELS!!! Of course I requested this in writing and obviously she didn't include that part in the letter because she knew where I was getting to. We moved out, and of course like every tenant has said on Yelp they nickel and dime you on your deposit unfairly and oh did I forget to mention those hidden fees of trash and water? They charged me for a new carpet replacement due to normal wear and tear. Let me remind you I didn't leave any stains or tears. When I asked the manager why she felt the need to justify this charged, her answer was, "heavy foot traffic." I can't believe she said that. I've never heard that in my life! So they expect you not to walk on the carpet at all. Oookkkaaayyy sure. I also requested pictures of the carpet at least shampooed to determine that it was "damaged" per Mirna Leon's words and of course no answer to this because they didn't even attempt to shampoo it. Now, the real reason they charged me; they are obligated to change this carpet due to the recent claims and letters I received every year from this company regarding bed bugs and beetles but they did it on my expense. Yuuccckk!! Good thing I threw everything away!! This company is disgusting and are crooks! They treat every tenant unfairly. Just look at all the bad reviews recently. Ever since this new manager Mirna Leon took over, no one liked her. She rub people the wrong way but I gave her the benefit of the doubt, but boy was I wrong. This company has been sued several times (And tenants won their case) and a lot of people moved out since she took over. I really feel bad for Denise (leasing agent) and Jeffrey (maintenance manger) who have to work and deal with her on a daily basis. This company is a fraud, hence why the majority or all of the work done in these apartments are shoddy. I am now considering in filing a law suit against this company as recommended by my brother in law who is an attorney. read more

i lived at oak park for almost 5years i recently moved out, the 1st 2years was good they had pretty good management, from the 3rd year up new management started, and thats when thing got really bad. after i moved out i was promised 2 checks 1 for the security deposit and 1 for the pro rated days that i was not there for, i gotten the security check but the pro rated check i never received after going back and forth with emails with manager for 5 months she tells me "sorry you will not be getting a check,, note that everytime i emailed her to ask me for my new address and need you to sign the check that there sending, which i never received and when i called her she was rushing to get off the phone with me.. fuc..ing crooks!!!!!! unprofessional ..useless management!!!! and o yea liars tooo!!! fyi this place has roach problems, nosy neighbors, and if you have a maitanace issue you better have good patients cause it took 2 months to fix a leaky faucet. and while the manager is babying her flowers that she grew in the courtyard, she should be tending to the residents needs, and o yea the bbq is filled with roaches!!!!! o yea and i also was provided an email for their cooperate personal, i emailed her but i had never received a response, and the only response is from what she posted on yelp comment right below here! which did nothing to help me or answered any of my questions!! shes just as useless as the manager at 125 west olive ave's oakpark!! read more

Bed bugs. Terrible customer service. Tells tenants they can move out if something is wrong in the apartment, instead of fixing it like they're supposed to. Even giving one star is a bit generous for this place. read more

A little better than two stars. Not three, though. Moved here in September 2016, and it's not what we expected. PROS Very close to Old Town Monrovia. We love that. We're on the North side of the North building (150 W Colorado Blvd), and have a great view of the mountains. There's a nice courtyard, grills, really nice common rooms with kitchens. A little treadmill gym (stationary bike and one cable-combo machine). We've also liked all our neighbors so far. The prices are better than Pasadena. The layout of our 1 bedroom is decent and the carpet/cabinets/flooring/etc all look great. Small deposit relative to other places. Can pay rent online (but I'm stretching here... it's 2017 right. Doesn't everywhere do this?) Common areas, hallways, etc are kept very clean (stairwells are just ok). Laundry rooms are usually available and always clean. In-unit would save a lot of money, but we knew this. Parking is very easy around here, and the Friday night street fest on Myrtle is great. Very few bugs. Even when all the rain was going on, we only killed a few spiders, a couple silverfish, and maybe one beetle/roach...not sure what it was. We've heard there's been some roach sightings on the first floor, and I've seen a couple small ones, but that's it (not bad for 8 months). Some are to be expected when people are going in and out all the time. Communication with the management is slow at best without going to their offices, BUT we've had good luck with unit repairs... getting closet doors fixed, tub drain checked out, bug spray requests, etc. CONS YELP RAFFLE: A few months ago, they had fliers up for a drawing to receive $75 off a month's rent for anyone who left a good yelp review (Around Nov/Dec I think... I can't remember exactly). I don't mean to taint reviews from then, but it's not a great sign of how things have been. A $75 off raffle for any review - that would've been respectable: Use the raffle to get reviews, but earn the good ones. FIRE ALARMS: Without exaggeration, the building alarm goes off no less than twice a month (almost every week our first few months here). I don't know why. It's like the boy who cried wolf. Someday, it's going to be a real fire, no one is going to leave because of all the false alarms, then someone is going to die... at least, that's what it feels like. Almost every time, the fire department is forced to show up, sirens blaring right outside the window, so they can walk in and reset the alarms. What a waste of their time, taxpayer money, our sleep (in some cases), and future safety. WATER: The water is off again today, which was the final straw that led to this review. The water has been turned off (sometimes for 8 hours or more and without notice about half the time) maybe once a month since we've been here (6 times I can remember specifically). Once overnight but that one time was a city mandate (in Oak Park's defense). MEDIOCRE COMMUNICATION: It's not terrible, but definitely not great. Sometimes Oak Park puts up flyers about the water shut-offs, but if you don't leave the building in that time frame (and many of the residents here are elderly and/or don't leave often) then you'd never know about the water shut-offs. Other times, no warning at all. They refuse to send out email notifications about anything. It's very frustrating. Also, personal emails often are either replied to days later or never at all. The fire alarms and water issues would be a lot easier to deal with if we just got more info from the management about what was going. SHODDY CONSTRUCTION: The patios are nice to have but scarily built. They may be perfectly fine, but we don't go out there because a bunch of nails are sticking up and the whole thing leans to one side a bit. In Oak Park's defense, we knew that when we moved in. You can't use any of those paste-on picture frame holders cause the paint just cracks off (because it's not really dry-wall but some kind of cardboard composite behind the paint) - They mention the "no stickies" thing in the contract, so we knew that ahead of time as well at least. But, when I've used my stud finder to screw things into the wall, I've found some bizarre patterns... studs that only go half-way up the wall, slanted studs, etc. We've still been able to do what we need, but it doesn't give me much earthquake confidence. OVERALL There are other little things, but this is too long already. If I think of other big Pros or Cons, I'll try to remember to add them. Overall, we'd live here again... but for about $200 less per month. With the LA county prices the way they are recently, though... I don't know, it's expensive everywhere. Still, some simple changes would make this place what we expected, and emotions are largely about expectations. read more

Mirna our new manager in horrible. She was transferred here from North Hollywood and treats this place like North Hollywood. To many things have changed for the worse. Threw away all the books from the bookshelfs,no where to set in the laundry room, she threw away the chairs from there, common area kitchens have no burners on the stoves, emptied all the cabinets in the trash. Nobody here likes her. If you want to move in here may God be with you. I wouldn't want my worst enemy living here. Will post more later. read more

Great place to live in nice neighbors from time to time they have some cool events for all to get together

We've been here for a year and I don't have negative things to say... we had water damage and it was addressed right away. I have two animals here and no infestation of any kind. I am a clean freak so I am always cleaning and spraying Lysol. I haven't seen one bug in the apartment. I did see one next to the laundry room but it's close to the door, could have easily came from the outside. Yes they've came into our apartment when it was raining a lot but was understandable. I work nights so they left me alone after I verified we have no leaks. Also Jeffrey was kind and as quiet as possible when fixing our wall so I could get some sleep. Yes alarms go off but I haven't heard it in a while now. Rents cheaper here and allow animals. We are right in downtime. I have no complaints. Just signed another lease. So far mirna has been good with us. We have rarely needed her for anything though. read more
