The setting was the ideal blend of rustic charm and elegant country chic. Our ceremony took place under the trees, nestled between the fields and vineyards--a truly magical backdrop. One of their cows even joined in to "approve" our vows, which made the moment unforgettable and so uniquely Postlewaitt's. Cocktail hour near the ceremony site was serene and inviting, giving guests the perfect opportunity to mingle and enjoy the scenery. The reception in the barn was just as wonderful--the roll-up doors created an easy flow between indoors and outdoors, exactly the atmosphere we envisioned. The farm tables and antique mismatched plates available through the venue were absolutely perfect, adding so much character and completing the warm, inviting atmosphere we were looking for. Our guests continue to compliment the venue and its idyllic setting. The view of Mt. Hood in the background left a lasting impression and made the day feel even more special. Jacqueline was a joy to work with--knowledgeable, responsive, and always ready with great suggestions. Her recommendation to partner with Carpe Diem Wedding Planning was the icing on the cake and made everything run smoothly. I wouldn't change a single thing about our day. We would choose Postlewaitt's again and again and recommend it wholeheartedly to any couple looking for a stunning venue and a team that truly cares.

I had to wait a little while to make sure the wedding goggles (see:…read morehttp://www.hulu.com/watch/19123/how-i-met-your-mother-a-memory) were completely off before I wrote this. You know how it goes- happy couple, candle light, 105 degree summer day... enchanting. One can't help being swept up in the moment of a intimate family wedding. Yet after having some time to reflect, I have to say that I adore this little chapel built when times were simpler in 1884. It only holds about 100 people, the entirely white interior clad in custom hammered tin shines in the glowing evening sunlight that passes through the stained glass windows. A little stuffy, but surprisingly cool given the asinine recent temperature highs. The surrounding gardens and reception area makes it a picturesque setting in the outskirts of Portland. From the minister walking down the aisle to the ringing of the bells as the bride and groom walk out the doors, it's really a lovely place for a wedding that goes off without a hitch. Yet a little part of me kind of hopes I never come back here, I'd hate to tarnish the memory I've made.

We got in before they got noticed and saved a bundle. A winter wedding here on a cold but sunny day. The sunlight glowing through the original 100+ year old stained glass windows and off the white, pressed tin ceiling and walls. Ivory pews, ivory walls, ivory all. We wore ivory, black and charcoal gray. Decorated with only evergreen boughs and silver urns. Just lovely. Good spot for just-the-couple photos on the front stoop. The owner is sweet as wedding cake ("honey", "sweetheart", etc) but just a bit scatter brained so keep notes and get a receipt. Don't patronize their vendor list for photographers, cakes or flowers--you can do far better elsewhere (see my other wedding related reviews). Bonus Tip: Check out The Antonia Ballroom for your reception needs (just two blocks north and one block east) and that's a good deal as well!

I traveled the world with a bar band, and I have performed in venues, big and small. So when I say…read morethat this is one of my favorite venues of all time, I'm comparing it to a lot of places! The showdown is a beautiful piece of Portland history. What was obviously once a country western venue, has turned eclectic, and Portland quality weird. It's old, it's worn, it's beautiful. The sound is excellent, distinct sounds from each instrument even above 90 dB so super props to the sound guy! I thought the menu was great and an exceptional value for a music venue with salty nibbles, and locally made red hot sausages, Also really delicious. Everybody there was super nice, the bartender was quick, efficient and knowledgeable. The seating is not the most comfortable in the world, but I sat there for four hours and barely moved because it was just that much fun. Can't wait to go back and see the next band I can't stop listening to.

It is important to understand what The Showdown is before you attend. While it is a live music…read morevenue, it is mostly open ballroom, with seating around the periphery. Dancing seems to be the priority here. Some would say that The Showdown is a proper honky tonk, but it seems to be a bit more upscale than that description would imply. On my visit, one of the televisions was showing "Star Trek: The Next Generation", which was a fun surprise. Food is available at very reasonable prices. The menu is very small, and the food is nothing spectacular, but it is better than expected. Despite what Google Maps says, parking around here is TERRIBLE. It is all street parking, and not much in close proximity. Staff is FANTASTIC!!! Very friendly, very helpful, very professional. Service is prompt, and there is a fair number of non-alcoholic options. Tuesday nights feature a drop-in two-step dance class if you're interested. The instructors were top-notch, friendly, and great at what they did. There were probably 20 people in the class when I went, and the periphery seating gave me a great vantage point of the instructors and students (I couldn't wrap my head around it, but all participants seemed to be having a great time). The PA system sounded great, and the volume levels were very appropriate for the size of the room (it is nice not to have been deafened by needlessly loud music). The band was the true highlight of the night. They were awesome.
