The location can't be beat, either--near Jackson Square. What impressed me most was when I most recently went in--and I'm an out of towner, understand--they greeted me, we talked about art and photography and one of the guys asked me to go to a photo show his friend was having. There's a real sense of wanting to include all skaters here, to extend the community outward and not puppy-guard anything despite probably getting a huge lot of tourists wandering in for better or worse. Humidity is simply really embodying what a local skateshop should in every regard. They have very rad stickers, too.

I was so surprised to see a Zumiez here in New Orleans since I had grown up with a Zumiez in our…read moremall in Idaho, and it seems to be more of a Northern brand store. I was looking for quirky shirts for my guy friends for a party we were looking to go to that night. The sales people were all attentive without being overbearing, just the selection wasn't really up to par with what I had seen at other Zumiez. They always have a handful of sales racks beckoning to you with what seems like a good deal, but here it's even hard to pick out enough items to make the deal worth it. There was a Princess Leia shirt along the theme of the party and it was more expensive on sale than most their shirts not on sale. Odd... The girls section was OK but pretty small without much quality there. Maybe this just isn't my type of store anymore since I was pretty much a mall rat who hung out with the "Zumiez boys" most of my high school years. If you're a skateboarder this store might be way more valuable to you since they can build boards, fix them, and help you deck 'em out here.

Having a dressing room allowed me to try on whatever I wanted (encouraged by the lady at the counter/possibly the owner?) and leave with something I felt confident and fun in. I'm overjoyed at finally being able to find a pair of tie-dyed pants that FIT! She was also kind enough to give me washing instructions to make them last as long as possible! It would seem that's not a size generally accommodated by roller skate storefronts on the internet. I read reviews that gave conflicting advice about sizing, like this skate runs small, this one tends to be large. It was a gamble and there was no guarantee i would get them in time for a skating party I wanted to go to. It was disheartening and frustrating but I was determined to get some skates. searching for a local skate shop in New Orleans that has an inventory of roller skates brought up nothing! Zilch! Nada! But Heartless Skate shop caught my eye. Biloxi is an hour and a half away. It would be an adventure to get these skates. I called just to see what they got. Holly answered. I told her my sizing situation. it was obvious I was talking to an expert. She knows her skates, no question about it. Based on my foot measurements she found the perfect sized skates which were size 13/14. bigger than my shoe size but exactly the length for a comfortable fit. She had upgraded them with bearings and wheels and priced them fairly. I was about to make a 3 hour round trip journey to Biloxi for a pair of roller skates but felt confident after talking to Holly. the shop is so cute! It may be called Heartless but Holly has a lot of heart! And the skates I got, plus the tool to customize them, are perfect for me! I want to wear them all the time! i went to a free skate event In New Orleans which is what I wanted them for. Then the next day I was wearing them at work for hours.
