Listen up my little StarterBougies because I'm giving y'all a solid today and waiving the usual consulting fee. One might wish to take notes; this little 'indice doué pour les masses' you will surely appreciate mon cher.
This tip accomplishes two deliverables:
1. HOW to advance a step in your transition from StarterBougie to JourneyBougie.
2. WHERE to source some of the accoutrements required of a JourneyBougie.
Ready? Begin.
One might think that the key in which turns the lock which opens the gate which reveals your golden path into Bougiehalla is found upon Worth Avenue, Preston Road or even perhaps the plebeian confines of this thing referred to a 'The Galleria'. A typical and normal mistake mon petite poulle.
Yes, one will find quite a many nice baubles therein and I for one can attest to having a bit of the thrill of the salespeople following behind me. To catch stuff; not because I am a person of non-color. (On this, I am, of course, making light of the subject to point out that people of color are routinely and sublimely treated horribly in many retail establishments and in ways that I may recognize but cannot ever fully know) When Nordy's Knows one is about to drop 40 or 50 large they - like the holy trinity of Neiman's, Vuitton and Saks - will make the next hour of your life wonderful. But there is a catch...
And we ain't it.
See kiddos you are not Rich. Perhaps Wealthy. But def.not rich. Important distinction my BabyBougies in that chances are you will never be (monetarily) rich but you do have a very good chance of being Bougie Full Grown for Life. Which odds shall we place all our bets?
This is why you need places such as O'Thrifts. Because every now and then you get to be a small fish at Nordstrom....that's fine....but real staying power in Bougie Town requires smart shopping. Therein is my next secret to convey:
Dead Bougies and Dead Rich Folks Leave Fabulous Estates. Ringing any bells yet little one?
You need places like O'Thrifts to live the life and there a precious few like O'Thrifts out there. Tons of O'Craps that are a waste of time so, again, see this as a huge GIFT Icy Girl...Nilla previewed for you and put in all the hand sanitizer work so you don't have to.
A good part of your style adjectives are Fine, Timeless, Quality, Classic and Unique; correct? Reed and Barton, Ralph Lauren, Baccarat look just as good today as they did way back when. To find things in this niche, you'll need to hunt and hunt intelligently. This is why I love O'Thrifts.
O'Thrifts has an excellent eye. Will you find that Reed and Barton service for 16? Maybe not but you will find the flawless sideboard to store it within and a few accent pieces that your eye will soon know are quality without having to turn them over. (THAT is part of your final exams my little hookers; identity on sight without touch but we shan't arrive there today)
The store is relatively new and a bit of a well kept secret here in Auburn. But word has gotten out....don't think I didn't notice your Ms. Stager-Designer 'browsing' in your DKNY pencil skirt and Ebel. When one catches sight of Ladies Who Lunch that pretty much speaks volumes about a place.
Again, this is a hunt so you'll find a great mix of things appealing to every price point. (I found them because I needed a rope and found the perfect one for $5.00). The beauty here is that mix makes your BougieBuys even more fun. Crystal - one of the incredibly nice and knowledgable individuals there - has a terrific eye for a wide variety of items including China, clothing and unexpected surprise finds as well.
Prices are very competitive and in many cases - such as the sideboard - a definite deal. So much so that if I were the manager of Goodwill, I'd be a tad nervous. (Whoever does the pricing at Goodwill must be back on the pipe or something because it's almost a farce at times pricing wise and they lost most of their Stager Sally clientele.)
Your mission is to remain Bougie. Unlikely you'll attain this unless you spend smart.
O'Thrifts is smart.
Their visibility from the road is less than ideal; the building just sort of blands away into blandness. Don't let that fool you...this place is an up and coming star in a plain brown wrapper you'll be glad to have found.
I'm certain Ms. Pencil Skirt is after finding a perfect accent piece for $10.00 that she flipped into $225 that now resides in Dark Horse under subtle 1% illumination.
So shop HERE Bougie Susie. You'll need to save money anyway because you just can't coupon Louboutin. Which is basically Basic Bougie so off you go now little one.
Just remember to send a thank you note my way. Engraved stationary by now you of course have at the ready, correct? read more
