Just recently I needed to replace 3 u-joints on our SUV's rear driveshaft. For some reason, the…read morebearing caps at 2 of the yoke positions wouldn't completely unseat. I tried everything *wiping the sweat off of my brows* short of welding a bolt onto each of them so I'd have something to clamp onto to pry them off. If I knew how to weld I probably would've done exactly that, LOL! Anyhow, I decided to take the driveshaft assembly to a local auto shop I happen to drive past regularly. After the service advisor explained the situation and task to the tech, I headed to the lobby to await the completion of the repair job. Shortly afterwards, I noticed that same tech peek into the lobby towards the advisor as if he needed to talk to him about 'something' but the advisor was on the phone at the time. After the advisor hung up the phone I mentioned that the tech might be in need of his attention. He walked into the work area then immediately walked back into the lobby with 'that look'. He said the tech inadvertently damaged the yoke because the power tool, "slipped". I walked over to inspect the damage. What really pissed me off is the tech shrugged it off without a word, not even an apology. He just walked off like nothing happened. The advisor apologized but in principle he wasn't the one that damaged the yoke. The advisor then mentioned 'Drivetrain Specialists' in Buda could repair the driveshaft but there was no mention of them taking responsibility for the damage their tech caused. After all, I brought in a good driveshaft with bad u-joints, not a bad driveshaft with bad u-joints. I didn't have time nor the patience to argue about the tech's rookie mistake. The advisor made a few phone calls in an attempt to locate a replacement driveshaft assembly but thats about it; none were in stock. I agreed to go to Drivetrain Specialists the next morning. It was an hour away but I needed to get this done. I arrived at Drivetrain Specialists at the crack of dawn. Once Mr. Cantrell, the owner, looked at the damage he said, "Sorry, I can't fix this, it's friction welded." I was internally VERY P I S S E D. Not at Mr. Cantrell but the shop that jacked up my driveshaft. An OEM replacement is no longer available and I'm not too fond of aftermarket components, especially when it comes to crucial mechanical parts like a driveshaft. My only other option was a custom built driveshaft. Thankfully, they have the capability to build one. Mr. Cantrell quoted me a really fair price and said it'd be ready in a few days because they'd need to order some special parts to build my shaft. I left and went straight to the shop that busted up my driveshaft and demanded they be responsible for at least 1/2 of the cost for the custom build. They agreed and because of that, I've opted not to name them in this write up or bash them on their Yelp page... I'll forgive them that much. A few days came and I picked it up. After negotiating traffic and arriving home I crawled under our rig and bolted in the new custom driveshaft; perfect fit! Mannn, I should've just bypassed the local shop and went to these guys in the first place. They absolutely know what they're doing and the pricing was fair. The build quality is very good and the driveshaft works as intended. The guys and the office lady I met at the shop were all very nice folks. I have no issues referring people to them. I won't be referring anybody to the other shop, thats for sure. Great job y'all! Thanks again! Our trail rig is performing great once again because of y'alls expertise! Cheers!

Almost $1300 for a $200 job!…read more Sadly this was the first and last time that I do business with Fabian It's starts with a Scan that he charges you to come do. He charged me $40 All this scanner does is give you codes. Nothing you can't get done at Autozone for free! I had done a process of elimination before he arrived to do his so called scan. When he arrived I told him I thought it was the fuel pump. He plugged up his fancy little toy and told me it fired off a computer code. (Never opened the hood). He charged me $40 and I got no information. He told me I would get a text with a estimate later that night. Wasting my time: Later that night I wait and nothing. Then he text me at 11:30pm told me I would get a estimate first thing in the morning. I was being patient. Next morning I text him to ask what was going on why this was taking so long. (No response). 2 days have gone by and nothing resolved. He then calls me and tells me my truck needs a Total Control Power Module (TIPM) from Dodge which he told me cost $1032. Then he told me he would charge $120 to install. At this point I was like what ever let's do it. I need this truck back on the road. He then told me he would try to find it cheaper. I have not heard from him since. I was convinced this was not the problem. I researched it the TIPM it had 10 chips of wires. And is held with latches. (Charge me $120 for a 10 min swap) I went back to my first thought. Long behold it was the fuel pump. $192 at O'reillys. Installed the pump myself turned the key and truck started right up. So to break it down. $1032 plus .08% tax puts the part at $1114.00 plus his $120 charge for labor(10 min swap) puts me at $1,234 and let's throw in $40( for the ridiculous so called scan) $1,274 total I would have spent with this guy $192 at O'reillys and I have a running truck! Thanks for nothing
