My daughter-in-law is six months pregnant and had her one year old with her today. It was 103° when I left work. Her battery died and she got a jump start to get to Harrison O'Reilly, Main st. Her husband was not available to help her as he is away in the military training to serve our country. She went in for help and an attendant came out to look. She was told that they could not help her change the battery and that probably no one in town "would touch it" because the car has a computer. I am surprised to learn that cars with computers cannot have batteries replaced as I have erroneously been doing this since the 80's. She asked him if she could just get the battery that is in it so she could find someone to help her. He said that he had never seen that battery, it was dirty and he couldn't tell what it was. Those exact batteries are sitting on his rack. Since he couldn't ID that O'Reilly battery he offered to up sell her one that was about twice the price. Without her husband she wasn't sure what to do. As I mentioned she has a one year old, her husband is away and this turned an already stressful morning into a far more desperate feeling one. It didn't have to. Perhaps times have changed but I thought that O'Reilly Main was the gold standard in customer service. I thought that it was pretty customary for most auto parts stores to help a lady with a simple battery change (it took 10 min.) or wipers. I see on their website that O'Reilly advertises that they will help you find a "super start battery" and "even provide free battery installation". I'm disappointed. Not just because I have been doing business there since 1989 but because as a man I cannot comprehend leaving a young woman and baby in that situation. I would think that if the business wouldn't help her then most men would have clocked out and taken care of her themselves. I have sent a lot of people there over the decades but I wouldn't send my dog there now. Do better. read more
