My wife returned home from a Mediterranean trip with friends recently and one of her girlfriend's husband wanted to experience "bacalhau" or salted cod fish, a delicacy of Portuguese and Brazilian cuisine. Her girlfriend couldn't bring any "bacalhau" home, so, my wife promised to bring some when we visited them from San Diego. Well, a close friend who is part Portuguese, knew exactly where to get authentic "bacalhau" in North County: O Prego!!! Situated among furniture stores in San Marcos, this humble and lovely establishment has authentic Portuguese and Brazilian staples that you made need. Along with a coffee cafe and bakery, this is your one stop shop for all of your needs. On the weekends you will find also a sandwich shop offering delectable food and dessert. My wife tried also the "pastel de nata" or the iconic Portuguese egg custard tart, flaky and crisp layers, filled with a sweet creamy custard baked to perfection. She even commented that it tasted better than in Portugal!!! What a compliment!!! With 1 hour advance notice, O Prego can baked up a bunch for your party or gathering needs. With friendly and helpful service you will leave satisfied and happy from O Prego!!!

This great little market brings the tastes of Brazil & Portugal to San Diego county. Everyone is super friendly. Espresso & fresh pastries from the case you can sit & eat as well as imported products to take home. They have even more food available on weekends.

Fantastic Portuguese market, with all sorts of authentic imports! The store is clean, great food and an amazing staff. I travel all the way from north Orange County just to restock on my Portuguese favorites here. Worth it the drive!

I've been following O Prego on social media for years, and on our way to a Portuguese festival in San Diego, I finally had the chance to stop by. Time was tight, but I didn't want to miss the opportunity -- and I'm so glad we made the stop! From the moment we walked in, João and his wife greeted us with the warmest "Bom dia!" and instantly made us feel at home. In the short 15-20 minutes we were there, I was able to grab a much-needed restroom break after a long drive, enjoy a delicious latte (galão), and pick up some treats to take with us -- two pastéis de nata, two quindim (my absolute favorite and not always easy to find), and two bolo de arroz. Since O Prego carries both Portuguese and Brazilian specialties, I had to try their coxinha -- it was really good! They also had an assortment of brigadeiros that looked incredible, but I'll have to save those for my next visit. The owners were incredibly generous and even sent us off with a bola de Berlim for the road. The shop itself has a great vibe -- cozy dining area, well-stocked shelves with Portuguese and Brazilian goods, and now they're serving lunch too. I can't wait to come back when I have more time to sit down, explore all the products, and enjoy a full meal. If you love authentic Portuguese and Brazilian food or just want to experience some genuine hospitality, O Prego is a must-visit!

João and his wife Liza have curated such a beautiful place. The place is very welcoming, clean, and family owned. We recently discovered that they've opened up a new sandwich section, and it's incredible. The bread they use is the same one they sell in the freeze, freshly made in Portugal with no chemicals, no artificial ingredients, just clean and wholesome, exactly how food should be. We loved it so much that we came back the very next day. We also picked up some of their meats to cook at home, and the quality is outstanding, truly some of the best we've ever had. It's clear they put their heart into everything they do and that they really care about bringing high-quality ingredients to their customers. We stock up on so many goodies, when we're here. So much better quality than any regular store near by. Definitely shop here first for groceries before going to a grocery store, you won't regret it.

João Da Silva opened this year's ago but was effected by Covid. He has been getting everything back in order, opening the store front and now offering food! American coffee isn't good and if you have been to Europe you would know that. This place pretty much takes you to Lisbon/Porto with its variety of coffee (same machine/beans you would get in Europe) with a wife arrange of snacks and desserts to pair woth your coffee. He continues to expand the menu and is now making authentic dishes from Brazil and Portugal over the weekends (open-till they run out). It was authentic and very excited to have this near by. Come here for great coffee, friendly staff, authentic food, and groceries straight from Brazil/Portugal.

Great food, exceptional service and family feel. Brought me back to my childhood and time spent in Portugal. Such an amazing place. Place has a constant turnover of customers. They have meals, coffees and desserts. They also have a store on the side with traditional Portuguese foods and snacks. Second time coming here. It's my first stop flying in to the San Diego Area.

growing up in Boston with a Brazilian best friend, I've been DEEPLY craving some of the Brazilian snack foods that were so easily accessible in my youth. my husband was camping with our scouts near O Prego and agreed to make a little detour to satiate my cravings and I feel so lucky that he did! apparently he was browsing like a lost puppy and the owner came over to save him. He showed her my extensive list and she more than provided every item, plus suggested a couple things I actually had wanted to try and forgot to add to my list! I was so happy to have amazing coxinha that brought me right back to my childhood, the crispy exterior and creamy filling, with tender chicken and a hint of creamy cheese, as well as perfectly cheesy and flaky folhados, creamy bite size coconut brigadeiro, a super yummy queijado de coco - which tasted like a coconut-y custard, think almost flan/pudim consistency with a coconut base, and a few pasteis de nata (literally better than I had in Lisbon the last time I went!). She also suggested a bag of their frozen pao de queijo and BLESS HER for doing so because we've been air frying them over the last few days to savor and they are so good I could cry. Way better than the Americanized version you over pay for at the local markets in OC. everything was fresh, delicious, and made me feel homesick. I hope we can make a reason to be back in the area soon so I can shop the entire store and try some of their sandwiches!

Want to feel like you've taken a quick trip to Portugal? Immediately transport yourself to this wonderful cafe and market with the best Portuguese bites this side of the world. The owners are so welcoming, you will leave feeling like you've just spent a few moments with family. The market selection is wonderful. The food and coffee on weekends absolutely delicious. The gift shop has everything you need for a special moment (like my mom's birthday gift). My son asks to go back several times a week for the treats and just loves the friendly owners. Do yourself a favor and visit this hidden gem. Truly special home away from home! You'll love the feeling - ambiance is 10/10.

I highly recommend this restaurant; the food is delicious. They have a sandwich that's so good you can't eat just one! I also recommend the bread they sell to take home; it comes directly from Portugal. Everything is fresh. Besides the restaurant, they have a mini-market with products from Portugal and Brazil! The service is very friendly, and they are expanding their menu.

Delicious and authentic! Very friendly and helpful owners on site. Cute place on furniture row.

GREAT Brazilian/Portuguese market with super nice (and knowledgeable) owners! Went in for a $6 bag of Prosciutto flavored Ruffles and walked out $130 lighter! Bought some delicious Brazilian Linguica, some beautiful Picanha and some other items (Guarana Antarctica, Brazilian Cheese bread and more!). I will definitely be a regular here! So glad I found it!

ADVNTR Family Eats: Why Texas de Brazil in Carlsbad is a Go-To Spot for Steak Lovers…read more Hiya B.U.M.S., If there is one thing our little ADVNTR family loves, it is finding a dining spot that satisfies everyone's appetite while offering a fun, memorable experience. San Diego is packed with incredible dining options, but when we want a guaranteed crowd-pleaser close to home, we frequently find ourselves heading over to Texas de Brazil in Carlsbad. It's always a fantastic meal, and today I'm breaking down exactly why this spot holds a special place in our rotation. One of the best things about Texas de Brazil is the sheer consistency of the food. No matter when we visit, the meats are always pretty good and packed with flavor. Because it's a traditional Brazilian-style churrascaria, the gauchos (servers) come around with a massive variety of skewers. The cool part? The steaks are usually prepared to accommodate every preference, ranging beautifully from well-done to rare depending on the specific cut of meat that arrives at your table. It takes the guesswork out of ordering for a group, ensuring everyone gets a slice exactly how they like it.  If you've never been to a Brazilian steakhouse before, the dining style is incredibly interactive. You are given a little two-sided tab circle (these vary from place to place) at your table, and it completely controls your dining experience. Here the green side means, "Please stop by my table, we want food!" The gauchos will keep a steady stream of delicious meats coming your way. The red side means, "We are taking a break." Turning it red signals the staff that they don't need to stop by, letting you chat, digest, or enjoy the massive salad bar without interruption. It's a simple, brilliant system that keeps the meal relaxed and paced perfectly to your family's appetite. The rotation of meat that comes out to the dining room is entirely random, which makes it fun to try things you might not normally order. However, if you are craving a specific cut, don't hesitate to ask your waiter! They are always happy to request a specific skewer directly from the grill for you. For our family, a special request is practically a requirement. My wife always asks for the beef ribs, and they are usually a total home run--incredibly juicy, tender, and delicious. Quick side note: Because everything is seasoned with traditional rock salt and flame-grilled, there have been a handful of times where the ribs have come out extra salty. It doesn't happen frequently, but it does happen occasionally. Even so, the flavor and juiciness keep us coming back for them every single time. There are several other fantastic Brazilian-style steakhouses scattered throughout the San Diego area, and I will definitely have full reviews up for those in the near future. But because our ADVNTR family frequently visits this Carlsbad location, I really wanted to get this review up first to highlight a local spot we genuinely enjoy. If you're looking for a great night out with awesome food and a fun atmosphere, I hope you guys enjoy this spot as much as we do. Have you been to the Carlsbad Texas de Brazil? What is your absolute favorite cut of meat to request? Let us know in the comments below.

Good stuff. 2) Pao de Queijo: -A MUST for my friend and I whenever I see them available. -Super yummy Brazilian cheese bread. I can easily munch down several of these and the quality is good here too, especially since it's made fresh! We also got the bottled juices, imported in from Brazil. Mango and guava were like nectar juices, super yummy and the pistachio one was pretty unique. Our table also ordered the Brazilian lime alcoholic drink, but as a non drinker, I can't comment on this. Lucas and his wife were very kind and welcoming! They even offered samples of their Golden Bites,…read moresince it was my first time at this establishment... Brazilian food is a fun array of different flavors from a variety of regions of the world. It's simplicity is iconic... I ordered 2 flavors of Golden Bites: Hot Dog and Ham & Cheese. Both were absolutely delicious! The Beef & Olive Empanada was also very good. However, I did not see any olives inside of the empanada, and the dough was rather thin and flaky like a form of filo dough. This is definitely a different style of empanada than what we are used to here in San Diego... The Milanese dish consisted of fried chicken fingers, french fries, with rice and beans. One thing about Brazilian food to consider is that the fare has much less in the way of spices, condiments, and accoutrements than what we are accustomed to in the United States. For example, the french fries had no salt on them, the beans had no pepper, and the rice was short grained minute rice with no butter. Even the chicken fingers lacked a bit of flavor when eating ala natural. FYI: Even the Brazilian Bis dessert, a Kit Kat-like wafer, had only half the amount of sugar that we put in sweets here in the U.S. However, all of this was an easy fix... After adding catch up and mustard to the hot dog Golden Bites, salt to the french fries, pepper to the beans, a little bit of butter to the rice, and their Chipotle mayo to the chicken fingers, then the food satisfied the taste buds. I also ate the Brazilian Bis dessert with some ice cream, and it was delicious! I gave them 4 stars instead of 3 for several reasons. First, Lucas was extremely nice and welcoming! This goes a long way in the restaurant industry... Second, culturally our food is overloaded with salt, pepper, sauces, and other condiments, so I tried to be respectful of their culture and the way that they prepare their food. Third, The Golden Bites were something special! Thank you to Lucas & his wife, as their new Brazilian Coxinha Store is a welcomed addition to the Mercato at Sorrento Valley!

High-quality LCD screens are everywhere, so there's actually not a bad seat in the house, whether you're on the sprawling patio or enjoying the spacious indoor area.
