O'Hara's Bakery Cafe gets a solid four stars and that's for a very good reason. It's not the best breakfast cuisine or coffee that I've had but it's a memorable breakfast/brunch experience nevertheless. The ambience is quite pleasant, high tin ceilings, reminiscent of the old drugstores of years gone by. The staff is very welcoming and pleasant. We both started out with cappuccinos. Even though the writeup on the cappuccinos boasted a couple of espresso shots, it still come throughout a bit on the weak side for me. I ordered a Belgian waffle with pecans and my wife ordered a breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel. The waffle was light and fluffy as expected with a good flavor, but but I guess I prefer a regular waffle with not as much air. The breakfast sandwich was tasty, but I opted for some hot sauce when I ate my half. In the past, we've had some of the baked goods here and they've been good. I think there's a lot of attention to detail by the owners, a commitment to good service and above average food at a fair price. We will be back. read more

Excellent service received this late morning. My spouse ordered scrambled eggs with cheese and sausage. A vegetable biscuit was offered. (the sausage was a bit over cooked) I opted for the Cohala French Toast with raisins and fresh fruit cup. The coffee was a bit strong for my liking, but diluted with some half and half. While they went through some growing pains initially, this has blossomed into my fave Lexington breakfast spot. Yes they have great specialty coffee drinks, but they also have a decent cup of drip coffee, something most breakfast places miss the mark on (blows my mind). The service is attentive and sweet. I always particularly enjoy chatting with Colby at the bar. My top fave foods here: -the cinnamon buns -yummy thick cut bacon -the corned beef hash is so filling and flavorful (I like mine with a runny egg on top) -the made from scratch bagels Also, if public restrooms stress you out, they have private, gender neutral bathrooms. My husband and I decided to try this place for breakfast because everyone in town kept saying the bagels were really good. Apparently, the owner has figured out something with the water, and they taste like legit New York bagels. I got a jalapeño cheddar turkey bagel with egg, and he got a cheese bagel with bacon and egg; they were delicious. The only thing that was a little weird is that when I ordered chai tea with almond milk, they told me I would have to be refunded because the specialty drink person wouldn't arrive until one hour after opening time. I've never heard of this before, but if that's the rule, I was perfectly fine with it. It turned out that the person who makes the drinks arrived early and made my drink perfectly. My husband ordered a vanilla iced coffee that wasn't considered specialty, so it was made right away. Overall, we would definitely come back. read more

We had high expectations, we eat at the restaurant and have never been disappointed, by the food or service. Our daughter recommended the cafe for brunch, as our nephew was down for my husband's birthday. We got to the cafe at 10:45, the told us it would be a 45 min wait, we said no problem, she then told us they were closing early and kitchen would be closing at 12:30, again we said no problem and put our name down. I asked if the bar was first come first serve or also on the wait, she said it was first come first serve. Cool! About 10-15 minutes later 4 chairs opened up at the bar and we headed over, we were a party of 3. As we approached a man slid into a seat and as I was grabbing the back of the chair to sit he said it was for his friend, I said is your friend here? At first he said he was, then a minute later said he was in the parking lot, and then he said he was about 10 minutes out. I said I'm sorry but I was told these were FCFS, he said his friend was on the way, I tried to explain that I didn't think he could save a seat, as we were here and the seats were open, one little girl behind bar said he can just save it a few more minutes and another said no it's FCFS and he couldn't. After not wanting to sit next the clearly irritating man, we walked back up front. We were sat about 15 minutes later. Just after his friend showed up. I would say make sure your staff knows what ever rules or standards you are expecting as a restaurant so customers don't have to figure it out on their own. Once seated it's 11:45ish once we got our drinks, I had decided in the Monte Cristo then was told I could not have it due to it not being 12pm. They were out of gravy and a couple other items I can't remember, so we made secondary choices. My husband had the avocado toast and waffle, I had 2 eggs potatoes and sausage with a waffle ( my plate had clearly been sitting prior to coming out my eggs were cold and had already gotten a skin over yolk) and my nephew had the wicked. I wasn't disappointed but I wasn't impressed, the best thing was the waffle. Coffee was our beverages and we kept having to ask for sugar and creamer, as she would only bring 4 packs at a time for 3ppl. Also the hostess seemed irritated the entire time after she would tell people the wait time and that they were closing early, and people still wanted to stay, I would say work on her face showing her emotions, and a few servers were mouthing foul words as they would told that the restaurant was out of this or that. They were clearly not a happy bunch Sunday morning. Menu selection is nice, coffee was hot, service was lacking but we some other tables with very good servers taking care of them. I would say we would give it another try but not anything soon. read more

We actually found this place by accident while looking for another restaurant, but anyplace with baked goods can't be too bad. We went during lunch, so it wasn't really crowded or loud. The selection of pastries was nice and the staff was very helpful in helping us find where we were going. We bought a cinnamon roll, which seemed a little pricey, but it was big enough to satisfy my daughters and I. There's also a main restaurant a couple doors down. This used to be one of our favorite breakfast restaurants until they stop service and made it a To Go restaurant. My wife and I had ordered food. It came out in metal containers. The food was cold. The bagels were not toasted properly very disappointed very bad business decision on their part because this restaurant is scratching off our list. I got a piece of celebration cake to take home and it was way overbaked. Actually much more brown than in the picture. I also got a white chocolate-cranberry scone which was too dry. All in all, while the baked goods look tempting they leave a lot to be desired. I'll stick to their savory dishes IF I go back. Our server and food was great, the rest of the experience was not so great. My sister and I regularly come in here for coffee. We order the same thing every time (Iced Cinnamon Bun lattes) we never have an issue except with one Barista. Unfortunately I did not get her name but it is the rude brunette lady behind the bar. Our coffee did not come out until well after our food, and was made incorrectly. When I told our server about the issue he brought them back to the barista and we heard her from our table yelling at him about our coffees. Then she came to our table and said " we only add the syrup and toppings if we have time to do so". This was very confusing to me, why would it not be made the same everytime? She said she did not want to have to remake it so we didn't have to wait any longer. We kindly told her we would wait to have our coffees remade. We then heard her talking loudly about us at the bar asking "who would want this in their coffee" The barista then came back up and told me just because we ordered the latte and we have received it made a different way before does not mean she has to make it the same. I showed her a picture of how our coffees normally look and asked if we could just get the same thing. She was very rude. I let our server know we were sorry for the inconvenience and the Barista was terribly rude, and he said she normally is like that. As a former server myself this was a very disappointing experience. I truly never send anything back unless it simply incorrect. Management should address her attitude. read more

Well it takes a lot for me to give five stars but this place was outstanding! We have wanted to come here for a while but by the time we remembered, they were closed for the day. We ordered avocado toast with2 over easy eggs, grits, roasted potatoes and a cheddar biscuit. They were very generous with the avocado spread and it was packed with flavor. The potatoes were perfect and had the right touch of rosemary. Grits we great and the eggs needed no seasoning. We got Challah bread to go and we are looking forward to making French toast. Definitely a must to experience. They have a bakery on site and the delectables they have available will make anyone's mouth water. Fantastic staff, great atmosphere and tasty food made well. Certainly has great atmosphere and nice wait staff. Coffees pretty decent. But the desserts that I've had there fall well short. They look great, but they are actually quite heavy and dry in some cases. I don't know what it is, but they can look so good and taste the opposite to me. I like going there, so I wish they would have something for the cake is fluffier and less filling and less heavy stuff. There are so many good things you can do in the bakery I just haven't eaten anything there that I would want to even take home as a leftover. So I would never get to take out there. read more

My husband and I visited O'Hara's Bakery Café on a Saturday night for dessert and it was PACKED! The café had a live musician playing piano, which was wonderful. There was not anywhere to sit and enjoy our dessert, so we opted to pick something out from the case to take to-go. I picked out the lemon blueberry cake and my husband picked out the Butterfinger cheesecake. We enjoy supporting local businesses, so we were happy to pay the $20 for the two slices of cake, but I do feel that it was overpriced for what it was. After ordering our desserts, we waited at the counter for about ten minutes. The staff cut our cake (the cheesecake was already cut and on a plate as it was the last slice), but then it just sat there for awhile while staff were cutting other cakes. After awhile, I think the staff realized that we were still waiting and put our two slices in boxes. The staff were friendly but didn't feel very attentive. The ambiance of the café likely has the potential to be nice, but it was over-crowded and we weren't able to enjoy our desserts as it was too full. The desserts were good, but nothing extraordinary.
