I am severely disappointed in this outfit. Not only do they arbitrarily decide what to trim, cut, and get rid of, but they overcharge for this service as well. Mulch had to be reapplied as it was too thin. Took down a trellis with mature vines on it and cut them all down. Took 6 feet off the end of my beautiful flowering tree that I can no longer enjoy as I look onto my backyard. Yet they left the harmful vine growing up another tree. I will never use them again or recommend them. read more

I contracted with Mike at O'Grady's for substantial landscaping of my backyard. The design and the proposal stages went well, and in March 2018 I had high hopes that I would have a nicely updated backyard to share with family and friends. Unfortunately, it all went down hill from there. First, they put me off until the end of May to actually schedule and perform the work. Because of the heat, 30% of the plantings died within weeks. A lot of my carefully planted grass was destroyed by the laborers - with no replacement. Further, all of the promised weed removal that was performed was done poorly - and within weeks all of the beds were full of weeds. A dry bed for drainage was simply laid as a square instead of following the contours of the slope, making it look both odd and ineffectual - doing little to halt the erosion it was meant to arrest. While I was able to correct some of the problems myself, the "warranty" on the plantings was worthless - the pictures I sent weren't even acknowledged much less new plantings provided. Any emails or phone calls were ignored. All in all, it was almost a complete waste of money and time. POSTSCRIPT 4/12/2019: After a constructive conversation with Terry O'Grady, who was mortified by the work, he met with me in person to investigate the issues and to put together a plan to address them. The next day he had a guy here to replace the dead plantings, fix the drainage bed, and seed the damaged areas of the lawn. I feel much better about my experience now, and if the personnel changes he has made are effective, then you trust them with your lawn. read more

I met with Patrick to get a proposal for an annual maintenance contract. He was on time and sent the proposal in a timely manner. Three issues were of concern and I tried to work through them but to no avail. First, they require a credit card on the account so they can charge maintenance costs or if they need to add additional charges. I am not sure if the additions charges would have been with my approval or not as the proposal did not address and Patrick could not clarify. This was of concern but I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. The second issue was that some parts of the proposal are based on man hour cost, which can lead to potential for unlimited charges as there were no limits assigned to them. When I asked, their response in a nutshell was you just have to trust us. The third issue was about Fall leaf removal. The proposal stated 2-3 times in Fall at $65 per man hour. Although we had agreed that they would blow the leaves into the treed areas of my yard -- no collecting or hauling -- Patrick said they would take 3 men about 2 hours for each session (6 man hours or $390 per session). I expressed my desire to have the Fall leaves removed four times ($1,560). But, Patrick said in reality, they would only do it twice in the Fall and will not do more even though I am willing to pay for this expensive charge. Another words, I would have to hire someone else to blow the Fall leaves from around my house. I have contracted previously with several landscape maintenance companies and I have never experienced a company that is so inflexible and uncaring about the customer needs. read more

Upset with the customer service from the office manager; I think my experience kind of mirrored Kelly A.'s (see review below). Called the office manager and told her I was interested in two different projects. The first project involved concrete steps. She said they didn't do concrete work (though if she were really listening, they would have realized the job could involve retaining wall work). Okay, no big deal. Then I told her I was interested in having a rain garden built. She told me that labor cost is a $1500 minimum, so basically the project was not big enough for them. I was willing to spend 3-4$k on the rain garden alone. Either way, the project wasn't going to work. I live in Burke, and O'Grady's doesn't service that area. But, based on the overall tone and course of the conversation, I walked away feeling like I really wasn't listened to. Or even that my money wasn't good enough. That's not right. It may be political, but it's not very graceful. read more

I'll attempt to keep this review relatively short. Anything too long is sure to stress me out, as dealing with this company has been a complete nightmare and I would really like to just forget about them. That's easier said than done, however, as I am reminded of their ineptitude every time I look at my lawn. We contacted O'Grady's Landscape because we needed some landscaping performed on a sloped section of the yard after a severe summer storm last year. The storm had blown over an enormous tree, disrupting the nearby ground. Terry O'Grady was very nice when he came out to survey the damage and was arguably the most thoughtful of the contractors that we interviewed. We chose his company because we liked his idea of tearing out the several old azalea bushes near that tree and replacing them with grass. We have two young children, and the idea of having more grassy areas for them to play in really appealed to us. In fact, we extended the scope of the contract to remove some other bushes and a couple small trees in another part of the yard. Thus the excitement began. The work was to be performed when the company's schedule opened up. At that point, they would contact us to make sure it was a good time for the work to be done. Well, excitement turned to concern when they contacted us the night before they intended to begin work. Perhaps I was out of line, but I had expected more than 12 hours notice before someone was going to be tearing up my yard and using loud machinery. It's hard enough to get my two-year-old daughter to take a nap without all that noise. However, we had no real conflicts with them starting that next day, so we let the issue slide. Over the next few days, they removed several bushes and all sorts of other things. There was really no cause for concern. The yard looked completely trashed because they were tearing things out and it was to be expected. Then, one day they just didn't show up. Perhaps they had a scheduling conflict that day. We didn't know, so we gave them the benefit of the doubt. However, after a few days, we began to wonder if they were coming back. The work outlined in the contract had not been completed, so we contacted Terry O'Grady to get a status update. He said that they were finished and that he would be sending a final invoice. We told him that there were several items that required addressing, but after explaining them to him, he basically told us that our expectations were too high. I don't want to misquote him, but he said something to the effect of "it can always be done better." Frankly, our thought was that it couldn't have been done any worse. Among the things that were supposed to be done, that sloped section of the lawn was supposed to be finely graded and seeded after bushes and tree debris were removed. I don't know what their definition of fine grading is, but all I can tell you is that there are huge chunks from tree stump sticking out of that part of the yard. The debris from this stump, which had been ground up by another contractor beforehand, was to be removed by O'Grady's. It appears that, while they removed most of it (or maybe they didn't... who knows?), they decided to leave some parts of the stump there and try to just cover them up with dirt. Well, they did quite a poor job, because the chunks of debris are literally sticking up out of the yard so high that I cannot mow the area. Additionally, there is a rock that I would estimate to be the size of a basketball sticking out of that area as well - another thing they just tried to unsuccessfully cover up. Ironically, they hauled off several large rocks in a different part of the yard that we had requested to be saved, but they left this one there. Go figure. Let's assume that I could actually mow that sloped area with the stump chunks and the large rock. If I did, I would be at risk of breaking an ankle from the many craters that are in this "professionally landscaped" area. To say that the yard is now lumpy is a complete understatement. But the complaints don't stop there. The company had used a trencher to dig out some flowerbeds near the curb so that grass could be put down. In doing so, the trencher gouged our sidewalk. Did they fix the damage? No. Did they even apologize? Not at all. I guess we were just too unreasonable to expect such things. Unfortunately, this review is my only recourse. Terry O'Grady refused to address the problems and insinuated that we were unreasonable to expect them to be fixed. My father-in-law had offered to pay for the work and unfortunately did so when they sent him the invoice. This was before we could tell him to withhold the payment, because at that time we thought that O'Grady would be reasonable enough to fix the problems. Having already received his money, any incentive for him to fix his workers' mistakes was gone. I guess good customer service and meeting contractual obligations just doesn't offer the same appeal as cold hard cash. read more

Called O'Grady's for a quote on garden beds and some regrading - took about a week for them to call me back, which was not a big deal, then a VERY nice man named Mike came out to look at our yard. I asked for a quote in parts incase we could only do a section at a time and our goal was to do a regrading project first. Mike was super nice and sent a quote. The quote seemed high for the beds and a walkway though the regrading was fine and I emailed him back that we wished to go forward with the regrading ASAP and I would shop around a bit for the beds. (never said I would not use them but needed to get a better idea of what other rates were out there.) Never got an email response, called LM on Mikes cell phone- never got a call back, finally called the main number and got this email from Mike: "Thank you for the phone call. We have a $1200 minimum on work that we can do at each house. Unfortunately you do not meet this requirement. And our prices are too expensive so I am assuming that we cannot do the work for you, as what I got from your last email you were going to shop around for other prices good luck in the future. NO REQUIREMENT was on the quote. Very disappointed to have wasted all most a month from the first call to this email today. They most likely lost a client as I really like the Mike and would have likely bought half of what they had quoted once we got the re-grading done. How about they responded with why the price for the beds was reasonable, I am in sales I would have been open to learning about the features and benefits of using them. read more

The patio they did was good but the landscaping was just ok. Two of our shrubs did not look well after the winter.

I had a job that included sod and initially Terry said that they don't do stand alone sod. The job actually includes sod, landscaping and hardscaping. He did follow up with a recommendation, but, it didn't include an offer to come see the site and provide an estimate. I had heard great things about this company and was looking forward to working with them. read more

O'Grady's did a great job on a grading and shrubby job I had done this summer! Above average customer service! Mike was prompt returning my call inquiring about the job, was on time for the appraisal and was responsive to all of my follow on questions. The work crew was friendly, quick and did a great job on a berm, swirl drain, shrub line and ground cover. The even used the left over mulch to fill in another bed they were not working on (weeded it too!). I've had some extremely poor customer service experiences this summer with two other businesses. O'Grady's and Mike restored my confidence in the American work ethic! Highly recommend them for your landscaping job! read more

Being happy with how O'Grady's installed our patio - we decided to use them a couple months later for the landscaping of the yard (front and back). We were extremely pleased as they made use of the space and more importantly did so within our budget. The job consisted of 2 - 8' trees, 12 - 3' bushes, and 35 - cover plants. Did not lay the landscaping/weed barrier on the property as directed, did not finish laying 4 inches of mulch. Weeds up through the 2 inches they put down in the fall - no weed barrier. After five years of failed attempts to landscape a steep hill with significant water drainage problems, Mike Hambleton at O'Grady's got the job done. He understood our vision and delivered a finished product for a reasonable price and on time without any problems. During the plant placement inspection, I requested swapping out a few plants to change the color scheme and Mike got it done that day. O'Grady's also finally fixed our water drainage problem. I have used O'grady's Landscape and Lawn care on a couple of occasions. Firstly, they installed a beautiful back patio in our (what I thought was cramped) backyard. The area they installed seems to have practically doubled the size of our entertaining space and My family and I love sitting out there now. They also added some wonderful trees to our front yard which has provided the front of my home some much needed shade. I know nothing about trees, and their forman explained (in detail) which trees would give me the best shade, last the longest and ones with prices that would stay within my budget. Waste of time. They had promised to come out for re-seeding and aerating today but never showed up. When I complained, they blamed it on my "strict" timing requirement of coming today as well as the weather being too warm to re-seed. They also noted that they have "good customer service" - that to me implies an email or call rather than having me wait all day for them. I was very disappointed in the quality of the planting and the survivability of the plants that we purchased. When I spoke to the owner about this he was totally disinterested in doing anything to satisfy me as a customer. He apparently has all the customers he needs and did not even consider any remedy despite the fact that I had an additional several thousand dollars worth of work I needed done.
