Rude, classist, and highly disrespectful. Clearly, service is only pleasant if you are an old white man, anyone else gets the ire of the employees, especially that horrid Oran man. We walked in with the intention to shop, but clearly since we did not fit the image of his preferred demographic, we were ignored, dismissed, and stared at excessively. We left without much further ado, went to go get coffee across the street, and when we returned, he was standing outside, taking pictures of our license plates and shouting at us from across the lot. I recently needed to update my wardrobe for a series of business trips where I need to make a good impression. I don't particularly enjoy buying clothes. I have no real interest in style or fashion so I tend to feel uninformed and at a disadvantage. However, this was a great experience. Seth Chartier was immediately fully engaged in the project. There was no up-sell and no sales pressure, just a genuine and knowledgeable effort to convert my requirements and preferences into exactly what I needed. It was a perfect mix of system, judgement, and tact. I really appreciated the way he coordinated the entire process from selection, alterations, pick-up, and the interface with shoes and belts which is a different department. A special mention to Thelis who helped me select the best-looking leather shoes I've ever owned. Near the end, the owner came out just to introduce himself. O'Connors is a case-study in how a business can successfully use superior service and quality to build loyalty. It doesn't always have to be about price. I have been buying clothing & shoes at O'Connor's for the last 30 years; their products are 1st class & reasonably priced & the service is spectacular. This is the only time I wish I was a man because O'Connor's provides an amazing retail experience for men. I've heard of O'Connor's before but I've never been there. My husband knew they carried Ecco shoes so we decided to check them out one lovely Saturday - yes they are open on Saturdays! The store is huge!! They are a one-stop-shop for all your business attire needs including dress pants, jackets, wallets, ties, accessories and really awesome shoes. The customer service is outstanding. When you go, I highly recommend grabbing Ryan to help you out because he is a wealth of shoe knowledge and extremely attentive and professional. While helping my husband try on shoes, he told us about the rich history of the store in Calgary, the European suppliers that they work with, and shoe features men and women should look out for. You'll notice that the prices at O'Connor's is higher than your average mall store. That's because the products they carry aren't *average*; they don't work with cheap quality suppliers. My husband didn't end up buying anything that day because he's waiting for his new orthotics to come in, but he has his eyes on a pair of pretty Eccos. For the ladies, the women's store is across the street where they also carry high quality shoes and clothing, where I bought a brand new pair of rose pink Ecco sneakers. In my own experience with men's clothing in this city, I would have to say that Calgary sucks. Boxy clothes bought at boxy big-brand stores. It's really tough to break out of this trend because at the other end you've got the wanna-be Gucci kids spending their parent's money at Holt Renfrew on ridiculously bad-looking clothing. What happened to tradition? I guess there are three decent places in Calgary to rediscover a semblance of men's style: Brooks Brothers, Harry Rosen, and O'Connors. The first (BB) is ok, they've got decent ties, and shirts that often go on sale, but it's a bit too big-brand for me, the salespeople are, for the most part, very high pressure. Often I go in and get the feeling they would sell me anything, as long as they could sell me something. Harry Rosen is nice, although a tad on the expensive side, and in my opinion, just sells the brands to the younger crowd (see Hugo Boss). O'Connors is pretty good. Maybe the best place in the city for a younger guy looking to get into decent clothing. Not that it's cheap, but then, you didn't really think you could get a quality garment, like a sports coat, for under $700, did you? I found the salespeople at O'Connors to be very helpful, and just interested. Interested in how I wanted to look, interested in my means, all that. I was never up-sold, when I said I was considering Made to Measure, the salespeople made me try on about a dozen different coats to satisfy my concerns regarding fit. I ended up getting a stock single sports coat from Samuelsohns made for what I was looking to spend. As I said, this place isn't cheap. You will not find a cheap fashion fix here, items have to be picked out with care and consideration. After my first consultation, I walked away for a week before deciding to go ahead with my purchase. Special Note: There are season-end sales. For example, every quarter, they put season's fabric on sale for about 25% off. So not bad, and worth waiting for. read more

I've come to appreciate this menswear and shoe store because of their customer service. Ryan, the fellow from the shoe area, is a gentleman with an excellent sense of hospitality. He will help you find what you like and package it nicely on your way out; oh and help yourself to a coffee or Perrier. I could go on but suffice it to say that this is my new home for shopping for fine shoes; I'll also be back for clothing. I will say that their downtown location leaves a lot to be desired, especially in terms of service, but this location does not. I might have given them 5 stars if I'd bought and worn anything: walked in on a rainy cool 'summer' mid-afternoon super-casually dressed-down to match the weather. Needing to kill some time with my appetite for dinner on the upswing, I did a casual stroll around this large ex-Volvo dealership site and took in the newest men's tailored clothing. Some features? - much of their gear is designed in Germany, UK or Italy and manufactured in Spain, Romania, and other eastern bloc countries. Found myself kinda relieved that they sidestep the generally inferior asian clothing mills that tend to specialize in knock-offs. - their cool season leather jackets (Milestone, etc.) very good quality leather with excellent tailoring, colours, and simple but effective designs. - some of their floral-print shirts nicely set off with plain bright ties. Good to see men's fashion emerging from the dank uninspired swamps of yester-decades. Long have men deserved measured taste in their dress options. - sports jackets in general better quality than the rags at Harry Rosen's, and prices more justifiably high. - some already with tope soles, shoes super good quality although their British and Italian brands not as finely appointed as a few decades ago. - many men and one woman salespersons are available to help in this large store just packed with goods. A super appealing place for the 'clothes horse' or self-aware gentleman, all staff were courteous and professional. If I you want to acquire some quality variably-accented clothing, this is the place to go. Not trying to oversell, the two people I talked with at any length didn't bother to press, but simply entered into various topics with ease. Oh yes, Singers and O'Connors are the centerpiece men's shops in AB, and it shows! Lotsa free parking at this venue that's only a few blocks south of the downtown core, and well worth a visit for any occasion in your casual to professional to night-on-the-town wardrobe. They know service! If you need clothes for work that will make you look and feel like a top shelf professional - this is the place to go. There is also an excellent selection of shoes on site as well. All the sales people are professional and totally standoffish - no hard sell or desperate comments to get you to purchase something. Good ole' fashion service and respect - certainly in short supply these days in Calgary. Check them out - you will not be disappointed! Agree with the others that service is outstanding. First example, we were running late and knew we would arrive at or just past closing time. We called ahead and they stayed open for us. The service was excellent, we never felt rushed and the salesman helped me make a good choice of shoes. The second example: I lost my receipt from that purchase and needed it. I called the store, the clerk printed off the receipt, scanned it to his email address and then forwarded it to me. All with no fumbling with the technology or even a second thought about using his personal email address. The clothes and shoes are fantastic - although I am less of an astute judge of that. What a joke! I arrived on a Saturday afternoon, as I sat in my vehicle finishing a cigarette whilst conversing with my wife O'Connors employee/lot patroller "Dave" approached my vehicle and asks me what I'm doing here in his "private parking lot". I wasn't parked in the stall all of 2 minutes, my engine was still running. There might have been 4 other cars in the entire lot. After this non-welcoming, premature to the pounce, confrontational approach that Dave clearly exemplifies defending his practically empty parking lot I have zero inclination to offer your establishment any patronage. Cheer up Dave, relax a little and mabey customers might want to actually come in. Way to go, 4 cars in the whole lot, could have been 5, but you were successful in bullying both myself and my spouse right off. I guess it only takes 4 patrons to ensure your next cheque, keep it up, keep those stalls empty Dave, that's what's important, precious empty stalls on a Saturday afternoon! read more

The women's store's staff treat their customers like dirt. When I asked them why the men's store provides a service and women's won't the sales lady's response was "well go tell mens to do it for you then". They pretty much tried to kick me out of the store. They also gave me a high quote on a tailoring service to try to discourage me from using them (that or men's charges significantly lower for the same serivce on their side). Absolutely unprofessional and jumps to conclusions. Just because people look young doesn't mean that they can't afford to shop there. Being a former sales manager myself I wouldn't keep people like that around. Definately would never go back and will discourage others from visiting. read more

My Husband purchased a suit from here and there were some challenges that went with it however the staff handled it perfectly. The level of care, attention and professional manner that went with this purchase was impeccable. Was greeted promptly when I entered the store (I was the only customer at the time) but when I inquired in the foot ware section about specific widths and styles I was met with indifference and sadly lack of knowledge.
