I bring my binoculars and always spot a great variety of birds. The trees are absolutely stunning... there are over 100 species of trees. Honestly... it's a little escape from a hectic world. It's the perfect place to bring a book, find your spot, and just relax for a while. Whether you're looking to unwind, enjoy nature, or have a quiet moment to yourself...this park is a hidden gem that never disappoints. Perfect for getting in your steps too! I like to go early morning before it gets too hot or busy. Starting in May they have free canoe rentals!! They also have very good food. Love their fresh fruit cups which they prepare every morning daily, their sandwiches are fresh and very good! I've also had their ice cream and it's delicious. When you first walk into the main building, you can check out chess pieces and other games. Some of the tables have the chessboard design printed on them. Perfect for getting your chess game on. Every Wednesday and Sunday, you can bring your dog. Over at the boathouse on the bottom floor they have a little museum called "Drawers of curiosity." Hard to believe The Gathering Place doesn't charge an entrance fee!! It's just simply amazing!

whether it was me seeing the roots perform while sitting on a hill, getting my steps in or catching…read morethe scenes for photography, the gathering place came a long way from it being a concept to it being brought to life. i had a previous job that was in the news field so i remember first reading about this place. i've tried the food.. i've walked across all of the paths.. i've seen art galleries.. you'll have to come see for yourself. it can get congested as for parking. coming along riverside can be backed up here & there. that also comes with the events that the gathering place hosts often. they're very local driven just as much as national talent that's been by for live music. it's wild for me to remind myself that it's (already) been 8 years since the park's been in place along with me first hearing about it. the grand opening also took place a day (9/8/18) before my birthday (9/9). i'm set to make a visit later this week & i'm already looking forward to treating myself. i miss the smoothie spot that used to be there.

For a very reasonable price, our cabin was clean, and the bed was comfortable. It was our first time to visit, and the grounds were beautifully manicured and clean. It would have been the perfect respite if our stay hadn't been spoiled by park staff the next morning. EARLY. We had stayed up late, socializing with friends, and planned to sleep in. But around 6 am, we were jolted awake by park workers in the adjoining unit, apparently doing maintenance. VERY LOUD. After waking up to a heart-stopping crash of some kind, we heard what sounded like drilling, construction, repair. Our car was in the driveway, so it was obvious our unit was occupied. Their project was completed in about 30 minutes, but there was no going back to sleep at that point. Disappointing.

I do wish that people respected the lakefront more. The only place in the state park that I found litter was on the lakefront/beach area where day guests come. The park rangers stated they are hosting a cleanup day on Earth Day for the beach/lakefront. I hope that future guests will keep it clean because the views are just beautiful!

There as well appeared to be a 4 wheeling area at the base of the dam. It seemed like a nice area just to chill if you wanted to drive up and admire the impressive infrarestructure they have created. The energy plant is nearby. I am sure at night this would be a nice place to take pictures. I don't know if I'll go out of my way to see this but if you're in the area doesn't hurt to drop by and check it out if you've never seen it before.

No one was in the gate attendant shack when I pulled up but there were easy to follow instructions to self pay. It was only $5 for a day pass which I thought was a great deal! The hike along the nature trail was beautiful. There are many areas where you're able to look out over the lake if you follow the "hiking" trail. I took my doggo with me. I personally didn't think it was a very strenuous hike, but I'm also fairly active. Be careful and watch your footing. I also came across what I would call a "hidden beach". Unless you hike to it or know where to locate it via boat, it's quite private. I thought it was absolutely beautiful and I can't wait to come back once everything greens up and bring a lunch with me to enjoy it for longer. The trail seemed well maintained and there wasn't any trash anywhere which is what I always like to see. I hope to get back to this lake before the end of summer. I'm trying to visit a different Tulsa District Corps lake each weekend this summer! Would highly recommend!!

These people are crooks…read more The management is completely inaccessible, and the people who answer the phone are gatekeepers who just give you the run around. They will not refund your money even if you follow their policy. We had to pay $679.67 in advance to reserve a couple of RV lots in July. We had to cancel 19 days in advance because of a family concern. We should have been refunded according to their policy, but am still getting nowhere six weeks later. They are scammers!

The pictures on Recreation.gov made the site look shady. In the late afternoon it is in FULL sun! On a 96' day, with humidity, it was too hot. We were all sweating, hot, and all felt sick. We finally went and sat at the next site over, #46, just to get some shade. We went up to the front to ask if we could switch. All the sites were booked. It was a miserable 20 hrs. Even our dog never stopped panting. Numbers 44, 46 & 47 all had shade. They also had lovely views of the lake. Though even their concrete picnic tables were hot. It was so hot that it had me wishing we had kept driving for 4 hour rather than having stopped here. If we had had a shady site I probably would have been singing a little different tune. People in RVs all seemed to be spending all their time in them. The women's restroom had a couple of toilets and a few showers. Some of the stalls, both shower and toilet only had shower curtains as doors. Nothing that locked. Only one toilet stall had toilet paper. Rounding up to 3 stars because of how quiet it was at night. As soon as the sun went down (just before 8:30pm,) to sun up (almost 7am) the campgrounds were quite. The only thing that could be heard was the wildlife.

Enjoyed a quick stop at this state park near Bartlesville and on the way to Pawhuska. A short…read moreunpaved trail leads you to a great waterfall area. You can walk from rock to rock out to some picturesque areas around the water. The trail is pretty easy to navigate except for a few slick rocks here and there. There is an overlook we drove up to but it was just an okay view due to some tall trees blocking much of the view. Camping areas look well kept and the ranger we spoke with was very nice and helpful. I would definitely recommend this to out of town visitors like myself to get out and enjoy nature and the beautiful landscape of NE Oklahoma.

At first, Osage Hills State Park doesn't seem like something too special, but if you begin hiking…read morethe trails, you'll find some real gems. First, there are some rocky canyon-type cliffs the hand Sand Creek winding through them. It's really pretty and there are some waterfalls and big rocks to wade onto in the middle of a creek that gets really wide in some parts. Seconds, there is sand all around (hence the name Sand Creek), enough in some spots to feel like you're sand bathing at a beach... no joke! Wish I snapped better pictures of the sandy parts. It was a fun experience!
