DO NOT -- I REPEAT, DO NOT -- RENT FROM THE BUDGET/AVIS LOCATION ON LEE ROAD IN SHAKER HEIGHTS…read more This was hands down the worst rental experience I've ever had -- and I've rented cars all over the country. This location is a filthy, disorganized, and unprofessional disgrace to the Budget brand and should be investigated, if not outright shut down. The office smelled like a mixture of Black & Mild cigars and stale air, and the carpet and interior were coated in dust and grime. I had prepaid for my rental and was given a car that was completely saturated with the stench of cigarette smoke -- so strong that both my clothes and my daughter's clothes smelled after just one ride. These are supposed to be non-smoking vehicles, but clearly, this location doesn't enforce that policy. I called immediately to report the issue and was told to return the next day for an exchange. When I arrived, I was met by Presha, who claimed to be the manager. She told me she only had two cars available and that they were being held until 5 p.m. for other renters. If they didn't show up, I could maybe get one. If they did, I would have to drive myself to the airport to exchange the car. She refused to offer a refund, a gas credit, or any kind of apology or compensation for the inconvenience and health hazard. I asked if she could at least call the airport location to explain the situation ahead of time so I wouldn't have to wait in line and re-explain everything. Her response? That Budget employees aren't allowed to call other locations directly. That sounded suspicious , and I was right. When I finally got to the Cleveland Hopkins Airport Budget counter, I was helped by a professional and apologetic manager who immediately confirmed that Presha was not telling the truth. She explained that if Presha was truly a manager, she absolutely had the capability and authority to call another manager at a different location to assist with a customer issue. So either Presha lied outright or she is woefully unqualified for her position. Either way, it's unacceptable. To make matters worse, I am immunocompromised, so being forced to use a car that reeked of smoke is more than an inconvenience -- it's a serious health risk. Budget's complete lack of concern or accountability is outrageous. Thankfully, the airport team was everything the Shaker Heights team was not: professional, kind, and capable. But the damage was done. I will be filing a formal complaint with corporate and encouraging everyone I know to steer far away from this location. This Budget office on Lee Road in Shaker Heights is a joke -- dirty, dishonest, and completely unfit to be serving the public. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME, MONEY, OR ENERGY HERE. DO NOT TRUST THIS LOCATION. AND DO NOT BELIEVE A WORD PRESHA TELLS YOU. This experience has soured me completely. I will never rent from Budget or Avis again.

The crazy thing is that there's no phone service, like zero bars, inside the store AND they don't have WiFi, so if you need to log into your accounts - tough $h!t. Once I downloaded a pdf of my phone bill (which was the most current PDF, but had a charge for a phone that was later returned as a trade in), they couldn't accept that because it had a balance. So then I paid my phone bill and showed them in the app that there was now a zero balance due. Well, THAT wasn't good enough and I guess I need to wait a month for my next pdf bill to verify my address? ridiculous. The funny thing is that last time I rented a car at that same store by simply logging into my gas account and phone account and showing them that they were my accounts with the correct address. It all ended with one dude saying he'd do it "just this once", then the manager saying they won't do it, and proceeding to explain to me how phone bills work. Bunch of clowns. Save yourself the headache and self respect and rent from just about anywhere else.

They are directly attached to a body shop and they seemed to only have a few vehicles for rent. Inside there are two 'stations' for customers to visit with the Hertz employees. 2014/2013 Chevy Cruze... Grey? Yeah. Grey. I personally believe that a rental shop has more duties than just handing you the keys to a car. I might not be paying for the rental... but someone is! And, If I was paying, I would be upset that they do a poor job of maintaining their vehicles. The car has bangs and bumps and bruises all over it. The employee at Hertz did not really seem to care and even mentioned how he "Wasnt worried about it". The front left wheel/tire has been damaged and vibrates at all speeds. It is also low on air and causes the car to get abysmal gas mileage. If i hadnt needed a car immediately I would have told him to take it back and gone elsewhere. I did enjoy that they picked me up in the car from the body shop.

I passed my ID and credit card. The agent said I needed a second form of ID because I was from out of town. How does that make sense? Who is usually renting vehicles? People from out of town. I told him I should have been informed before I came to pick up the vehicle. He told me they don't share their memos with customers. No, but you should share pertinent information. Instead of his calling someone, he was quite nonchalant, even taking personal calls. He gave me a number to what he claimed was Enterprise. The person on the other end claimed to not understand yet never gave the phone to a supervisor as we repeatedly requested. Meanwhile, I noticed the agent still had my credit card and had his phone aimed toward it. I honestly think they are running a scam. I am watching my credit card purchases more closely. The agent did not I finally turned on my brain and walked across to the Enterprise and got a 7-passenger vehicle with no problems. I would not rent from here and they owe me for the wasted time. I had a reservation for a 7-passenger SUV. All I received was frustration. And perhaps discrimination, as I wore a wrap on my head for my ID.

Manager Abby attempted to clean it twice. But it was still filthy. She still gave me the car and told me to call back and she would let me know if she had another car. I called back 1 hour later. Some gentleman answered. Wouldn't let me speak with Abby and notified me hat they had nothing. I then went to leave with my family about an hour after that and the "maintenance required" notification came back on. I then called them back and a young lady answered this time. She told me they had a Mitsubishi outlander for me. I said that was fine. When I arrived Abby showed me a Chevy Equinox. At this point I was beyond upset and just took the car. My trip had already been delayed because of this. During the ride I complained about the cleanliness of the vehicle and even stopped to try and clean it my self. For the most part the car was parked during the trip and we secured other transportation as it did not seem to drive well. On the way back home a Check Engine light illuminated on the dashboard and the car would not accelerate. We had to pull over on the side of a busy highway in 100 degree weather. We ended up waiting for just over an hour for a tow truck. Troy at the location in Maryland was amazing in helping us get into a fully gassed, clean and drivable vehicle to get home. When I returned the vehicle Brad was helpful and he listened. But something needs to be done able the Euclid store and ensuring checks and balances are in place and being followed. I would also like at least half of my points spent on this trip. Very interesting I get a survey after every visit - not surprising I did not get the survey email after this one. I wonder way?!? I will post this on other platforms as well. This is not acceptable.
