When he arrived, he really took the time to listen to our concerns and even asked to see some photos to get a better idea of what we were dealing with. After taking a look, he explained that the issue was actually outside the scope of what he usually inspects. But instead of just walking away, he stuck around, explained everything clearly, and gave us some super helpful advice. You can tell John really knows his stuff. He was professional, honest, and didn't try to sell us on anything unnecessary. In fact, he insisted on not charging us, saying he likes to "sleep peacefully at night." That says a lot about his character. He even sent us detailed suggestions on how to handle the problem--what kind of work would be needed, the materials to use, and even what kind of handyman to look for. He also gave us a few referrals to get started. We were originally planning a much more expensive fix, but thanks to his knowledgeable advice, we are able to switch to a more practical option and hence cut the cost in half. We really appreciate his honesty and guidance. Despite having completed our home inspection many months ago, as we settled into our home, we realized small things here and there that we didn't notice earlier. Every time we encountered something new, we thought any one of these questions - What can be causing this? How did this happen? How can we fix this? Will this cost much? Is this a small or big problem? The bottom line was where do we go from there?! ... JOHN to the rescue! Every time we had a question, not often, but the few times we did, we took John up on his generous offer of reaching out to him and, NOT ONCE, did John fail to respond within 1 day! Not only has John been extremely cordial and professional with every communication we had with him, but he takes the time to write out detailed, technical and specific instructions on how we could resolve our home issues. Honestly, we would be so lost without his guidance and advice, but he has made our transition into our home less stressful. During the inspection, Ray did a thorough visual inspection and offered tips and useful information regarding what he saw. Our particular home inspection lasted about 2 hours and included a test for radon, mold, and oil sweep. We received our extensive inspection report within 24-48 hours of completing the inspection (radon and mold test results took roughly a week since the samples needed to be sent to the lab). We (and our attorney) were very glad that we were provided with such an in-depth report as we contemplated next steps. Ray is a licensed P.E. and his structural expertise was much appreciated. We were impressed at first, being we purchased one of the first premier new homes by Hilliard in the Highlands on Bay Ave. However, if you are a buyer of any new Hilliard construction home, beware. No customer service. We have had a work list for over a year of concerns and promised would be address, we have been ignored. The owner "I am always around town" is never to be seen now, just his workers whom are very good and nice guys. Hilliard will promise you the moon and show concern, once monies pass hands seems done deal. Hilliard has had many land use issues in Highlands NJ. Before the bottom fell out, we referred Hilliard to friends for a new home purchase which the friends did purchase. They had to back out of deal because of non compliance of land use requirement, months later. They were virtual homeless for months. Hilliard showed no urgency to resolve which made us look foolish. Now we have to deal with our issues on our own as well as having an AC unit parallel to our patio deck. Very disappointed and quite bothered. We paid a "high price" for the house with no mortgage. Lesson: hold onto your escrow account till all is done to your satisfaction before releasing.

During the inspection, he pointed out issues with an AC handler tucked up in the furthest reaches of the attic which were caused by a missing water sensor - something I believe most inspectors would miss. Beyond just noticing lots of small details, Craig gave advice on home maintenance, down to things such as proper water heater temps, how to take care of appliances, etc. He was on time for the appointment and took meticulous notes which were detailed enough for us to argue for a number of repairs to be made (and which the sellers were kind enough to pay for).
