John came by for a custom inspection we had requested, and right off the bat, he was great with communication--kept us updated when he was running a little late. When he arrived, he really took the time to listen to our concerns and even asked to see some photos to get a better idea of what we were dealing with. After taking a look, he explained that the issue was actually outside the scope of what he usually inspects. But instead of just walking away, he stuck around, explained everything clearly, and gave us some super helpful advice. You can tell John really knows his stuff. He was professional, honest, and didn't try to sell us on anything unnecessary. In fact, he insisted on not charging us, saying he likes to "sleep peacefully at night." That says a lot about his character. He even sent us detailed suggestions on how to handle the problem--what kind of work would be needed, the materials to use, and even what kind of handyman to look for. He also gave us a few referrals to get started. We were originally planning a much more expensive fix, but thanks to his knowledgeable advice, we are able to switch to a more practical option and hence cut the cost in half. We really appreciate his honesty and guidance. He is the kind of handyman you would like to work with, especially for people like us after working with various dishonest handman/plumbers...He is definitely someone we'd trust and would go to for our future home improvement projects. read more

Just a quick update to my previous review written on 9/26/2021. First, NOTHING HAS CHANGED about the positive review I wrote about John's services, however after some time has passed since we first met John, I do want to add that John is absolutely and truly one of those people who keeps his promise of "feel free to reach out to me in the future and I will get back to you on it". Despite having completed our home inspection many months ago, as we settled into our home, we realized small things here and there that we didn't notice earlier. Every time we encountered something new, we thought any one of these questions - What can be causing this? How did this happen? How can we fix this? Will this cost much? Is this a small or big problem? The bottom line was where do we go from there?! ... JOHN to the rescue! Every time we had a question, not often, but the few times we did, we took John up on his generous offer of reaching out to him and, NOT ONCE, did John fail to respond within 1 day! Not only has John been extremely cordial and professional with every communication we had with him, but he takes the time to write out detailed, technical and specific instructions on how we could resolve our home issues. Honestly, we would be so lost without his guidance and advice, but he has made our transition into our home less stressful. Our realtor referred us to John along with a few other inspectors. We reached out to a few but John was the first one to get back to us promptly. He was happy to jump on a call and talk us through his whole process, his background and rates. As first-time homebuyers, we wanted an inspector who would walk us through everything, answer all our questions and provide guidance on how to properly repair and maintain a home, and John is just that! He arrived early, was extremely thorough, and walked us through each floor of the house, pointing out both issues we should address right away and things to keep an eye on as the years go by. He's very kind and informative, not afraid to get his hands dirty and he makes sure to check every nook and cranny. Our roof has a very steep pitch so he brought a drone to take detailed pictures! His extensive background as a contractor gave him a unique perspective on the myriad of issues houses can have, ballpark costs, and how to prioritize. For all other inspections, like Wood Destroying Insects, Oil Tanks and Sewer line, he has connections for all of them and it was so easy to book all services through him. His report came in the next day and it was incredibly thorough, with photos and detailed descriptions, along with suggested solutions. John inspected our new condo purchase in Union City earlier this month. I recently had a condo inspection completed by John in the downtown Jersey City area. He was VERY thorough in his review and turned around a detailed report in 24 hours. Clearly understands the stress that home buyers go through and gave me a lot of helpful practical tips for home ownership as a first time buyer. His report had several recommendations for ongoing maintenance in the house and had clear picture and videos for major and minor defects found in his inspection. The software his website uses is pretty good as well. You can easily download the detailed report or just a summary report that has all the defect findings.
