I came in during a quiet morning to report that my rent checks were stolen and altered after being dropped in a USPS mailbox within their district. I wasn't expecting a full investigation -- I just wanted the incident on record, thinking it might help prevent future cases. While the sergeant I initially spoke with when I walked in was polite, the rest of the experience was disappointing. I waited for over an hour while being told they were "busy" by the booking officer who set there doing other things, effectively ignored, yet I could clearly hear joking around and saw multiple officers and detectives walking back and forth. I was the only person there trying to report a crime, and eventually I just left. Maybe the response is different if you've been physically assaulted, but for larceny crimes, don't expect much to anything. As someone who has always supported law enforcement, this experience genuinely made me lose some respect especially for my neighborhood precinct.

Luckily the place wasn't crowded that evening so the process was rather quick. The officers were polite and very helpful. Detective Stewart took me through the step by step process and thoroughly explained what would happen and followed up with me thereafter. The person was apprehended and I just needed to give this precinct and Detective Stewart a big shout out. I know that there is a love hate relationship with the PD but they put their lives on the line every single day and witness unfathomable things on a daily basis. These officers at this precinct treated everyone with dignity from the homeless person filing a report to me and another person. There was absolutely no difference in quality of care or etiquette. I applaud them. It isn't easy being in a field where you are the every day heroes doing great things for people every single day but you get condemn for the actions of some bad apples and have to suffer the consequences. I think our Bay Area police could learn some etiquette lessons from this station! Exams are open to the public based on education and experience where EOE is enforced and practiced. I never received a discount for my exam fee as I applied online. Ten days prior to the scheduled exam date candidates receive in the U.S. mail an admission notice containing all the full details for location/address; date/time; valid photo identification, two #2 pencils; length of exam and instructions for finger prints, exiting the property. Organization from candidates entering the test site; to exiting the grounds are very clean and orderly pass. Exams varies month by month pending availability and the need for position(s). Personally, I apply to what suits my professional background to enhance a better career.

The Nypd school safety division before 1998 was the Board of Education school safety division and the job remains the same for the men and women who protect the children, employees, and visitors in and around NYC Schools. Was the merger needed? Don't get me wrong the nypd is second to none in its law enforcement pursuit but in my opinion the school safety division was not a perfect fit for the Dept. First school safety followed the merger of traffic agents into the nypd . While that was needed! because school safety was not police officers they also took on the uniforms of traffic agents except the white hat. School safety agents were called school safety officers which I believe has a better ring to it. I do believe that the men and women of school safety when under the board found themselves in awkward situations considering thier special patrolman /law enforcement status with the building principles who is in charge of the building. . But now under the nypd it's worst considering they also find themselves not employed by the education department. And with situations of disorderly conduct in the school building not a crime by the way , often agents are called to respond by school administrators and teachers and the situation can become criminal with possible Assault of that agent. The school safety division union is local 237 which has a law enforcement division consisting of hospital police , cuny college public safety, taxi limousine Co agents ect most of these titles go unnoticed because of their dual roles as security and law enforcement officials. The division has not been able to retain its staff due to many factors including agents leaving to other law enforcement jobs which pay more or has a more law enforcement role or look. A better fit would be nyc correction officers into the nypd. The Dept has tried to increase the number of agents by creating a new position of asst.school safety agent . But the starting age of 18 years of age is not a good idea in my opinion. There has been some hiccups with the division one of them was that old residency rule from the Koch administration. This affected more than just the division across city services its being felt even to this day the difference is now after two years you can move out of the 5 boroughs but with recruiting and retention issues the rule should be over completely. Hopefully what was agreed with the city council finally becomes reality and the school safety division becomes the Department of Education police.

And they seem to have gotten chubbier over the years...maybe having a nice cafeteria in your work place isn't a great thing... The building itself is ginormous and is very impressive looking. Very clean. But, the entry and exit doors are always broken, allowing the wind to blow right through the complex, completely negating any benefits of a "green" building. Who designed these doors?? The gym is top notch. Much better than my basement. Gym staff all look fit and seem to know what they're talking about. I highly recommend patronizing this place if you have the right credentials, even though they don't really want or need your business. I'd give it 5 stars. I graduated from the 21' Citizen's Police Academy and it was a fantastic experience. The FLPD truly believes in community policing - becoming a part of the town.
