This is a heartbreaking review. One of my favorite's..... This shop failed multiple health inspections over time. It got so bad it was published in the newspaper. Rats got me. Active rat den I believe is how the inspector described it. Mice roaches, unrefrigerated foods. It wasn't one inspection, they had warnings and the issues continued. Why didn't they clean it up? They do an astronomical amount of sales and yet behind the wall, it was pure filth. That's what's documented by the Rockland County Health Inspector. I have been a customer since it opened at least 20 years ago. I absolutely love the bagels. It gets crowded on weekends and the line could get annoying. But I didn't care. And now, I can't ever set foot in there again. This is a real bagel spot! Great selection of breakfast options and if you're not in the mood for breakfast they've got every sandwich imaginable plus soups, snacks and more! I had the bobo: a potato omelette with bacon on an everything bagel and it was scrumptious and the size was huge. They don't make 'em like this on the west coast! I ordered a "bonfire" sandwich. The menu shows it has avocado in it. When I opened it up later to eat lunch, there was no avocado and barely any lettuce and tomato, but a lot of bacon. The sandwich was not stacked properly either. Lettuce and tomato and the missing avocado should have been at the top, not bottom. Sigh. read more

We also bought the vegetable cream cheese and the lox cream cheese and. Dozen pumpernickel bagels. Pumpernickel bagels are hard to to find in Central Florida. The food is ok but the bagels are really good, I have a problem with service every time I go to pick up food it's like I'm invisible and when I am being helped it's always a hit or miss with quality hospitality but I've witnessed a total opposite with other people being helped right after me and that bothers me about this place and I also dislike the scouts that sit in front of the store only opening the door and asking everyone els for help except the Afro/Native crowd I have sat in my car and witnessed this that is the down side to this place and no one really cares because nothing is being said so ima let the cat out the bag. As plenty of others have already stated in their reviews, Nyack Hot Bagels hands down has the best bagels in Nyack. Not only that, but the rest of their menu consist of hot lunch food that's better than most sit-down restaurants in the area. Working from home the past two years, and living right down the street, it's been a real pleasure to drop in a few times a week to grab a chicken cutlet sub on my lunch break. Why am I only giving them three stars instead of five if the food is so good? Two reasons: Firstly, the price. For a sandwich, they're charging roughly $17.00 which is extraordinarily pricey. Just for a little bit of context, I can go to a bar on Main Street in Nyack and get a lunch sandwich for less of that if I wanted to. Secondly, the service. Nyack Hot Bagels has an extraordinarily large staff, all of whom are very friendly. However, no matter how busy or empty the place is, it takes forever for them to fill your order. Not only are the lines in front of the counter disorganized, but so too - it seems - is the process behind the counter. There always seems to be confusion amongst the staff about who should be serving each customer, and there have been many times where there are a more than a few of the staff standing around while somebody is waiting to be served. Again, they're all very friendly and helpful when they're helping you, but I do think the owner needs to implement better processes so there's less confusion in terms of ordering and who's helping who - especially during peak lunch hour. Despite its very clear flaws, the food is so great that I would recommend Nyack Bagels to anyone looking for a great morning bagel or breakfast sandwich, or some kind of delicious hot food at lunch. You won't be disappointed. I never am, and nor is my wife when we stop by in the mornings during the summer before making our way to the beach so we have lunch for later in the day. You need to go to this place. It's apparently a staple of the community, and for a good reason. Serendipitous walking into this perfect deli on a trip to NY. So glad I did. My order consisted of half a dozen of the world's most delicious bagels. They even topped with some tasty chives cream cheese. My wife had their fresh chicken cutlet. Begrudgingly she only gave me one bite. After tasting I'm surprised she did. Service was amazing and the staff was extremely competent. Super accommodating for special orders. Staff was cheerful. Oh, Nyack Hot Bagels... I want to give them 5 stars because they really do have the best bagels around; but I have to be honest, they never get my order right. I lived 2 blocks away for a decade and it got worse and worse over time. At first it was the deli sandwiches in the afternoon. You usually don't know your order is wrong until you've already driven away. And I only really get myself a deli sandwich on days I don't have the time to go back and wait for them to correct the order. It's frustrating. After the third mess up in a short time frame I just stopped going in for sandwiches, but the bagels always had me coming back. This last time was literally the last time. Now they keep messing up my breakfast orders too, not once, not twice, but now a third time in a row. Hubby and I were the only customers in the whole store this last time, beat the morning rush for a sunrise together, ordered 2 flavored bagels w/ flavored cream cheese to keep it simple (they had messed up our Hobos the time before by skipping the condiments and sending them out dry... they weren't very good dry), and even stood close in front of the staffer so he could ask us to repeat ourselves if he forgot what we had asked for. Still no luck. Got to our sunrise spot and cracked out an order gone wrong again. It was the last straw for us. How does an empty bagel shop mess up 2 bagels with cream cheese before 7am? I don't get it. They're busy; a thriving business with great food, but they can't slow down just enough to send you on your way with what you actually asked for, so I can't call it satisfying.
