It has been a very long time that I rode a commuter rail, but nevertheless after ten (10) years of…read moretrekking from Queens, NYC to Long Island to visit my former love I am no stranger to commuter rail daily trips. Unfortunately I have not been able to wanderlust in years which I am profoundly trapped in my locality with extreme cabin fever, and COVID-19 pandemic hindered travelling further, but I found a way out of NYC through MTA Metro North as a drifter in wanderlust. This MTA Metro-North Beacon Station is indeed clean. It is situated on the MTR Metro-North Hudson Line via the Henry Hudson River with scenic views of salt marshes, luxurious yacht boats, but no jet ski, kayak or paddle boats. It was a nice ride without any boisterous ruckus or rude disruption by fellow passengers. My ride was actually a very phlegmatic disposition. I usually sit alone for COVID-19 compliance of six feet distancing and usually silently cry due to my profound grief. It is a direct ride without the need for a transfer. The Hudson Line train passes the Broadway Bridge in the Bronx, and the New Tappan Zee Bridge. Unfortunately by night fall the view of the Hudson River during the entire train ride emits absolute no visibility as it is complete utter darkness. A one-way off peak ticket from Grand Central Terminal to Beacon for one adult is a whooping $17.50 (2021 era price) which is blamed on 2021 national inflation rate accelerated to 5.4%. Whoa! The underground passage is dingy very prone to flooding with inadequate drains as the underground passage is filled with pondering water on the ground with minimal lighting to provide pedestrian visibly for safety and less appealing similar to the NYC subway stations. There is a paid parking lot which appears to contain large amount of spaces. This station is ADA accessible with a ramp and elevator. There is a nice welcome signage of "Welcome to Beacon, NY" with a hand drawn area map. The train arrivals/departures at scheduled intervals of half hour or one hour for peak and off peak times. There is a small indoor, standing only, enclosure on the platform for passengers to seek temporary shelter from the elements of rain, snow, or extreme artic cold.

When I think of other Metro North stations (and I have seen a lot lately) I usually smile. When I…read morethink of this one, I grimace. It is functional, I will give it that. But it lacks the charm of some of the stations on the Harlem Line. Heck, it isn't even as charming as Peekskill, just a few towns south. It wasn't that clean and the sign wasn't well maintained. Plus, it kind of smelled like urine. I do not think there was any correlation between that detail and the fact that my friends and I had just spent 8 hours drinking beer before waiting for the return train to NYC, but I could be wrong about that. In any case, it was unpleasant. But don't let that stop you from visiting Beacon, it is a lovely town, pee notwithstanding.

Yes and yes. It might not be the red carpet but sure beats the price. The plan to run…read moreBeacon/Newburgh bridge was the best decision and daring one. For just 1.50 and free parking you may leave the car in Newburgh side, take the ferry. It takes less than 15 mins to get to the other side of the bridge, directly stopping at the Beacon train station. The route: Start by walking under the Beacon train station to the parking lot. Take the stairs up to this mini park and hang a left there. Keep following that route until you reach the main entrance to the bridge. Ensure to stay on your left, as it hooks to the bridge on left. There's not much crossing the road. Maybe, some parking lots here and there but that's about it. For your safety, always be aware of your surroundings for cars as they drive b fairly fast. This is a about a mile to the bridge. On the bridge, it made me nervous. I couldn't help but look down to the river. You are running on a metal plates all the way through. This is very sturdy although, the shaking could be unnerving. Next time, I will take a bag with me. Across the bridge is about 2 miles, keep following the trail to exit the bridge and will take you directly on the road to Leroy Drive. This road doesn't have a pedestrian walk way but fairly safe other wise. Along this route, there are some homes that are historical to Newburgh. This road is another mile to get to the port or docking station. Don't forget to stop in to take a pic or have a beer. Some restaurants here have the view overlooking the bridge. Key note: Please be careful when parking your cars on the parking lot. Although, there's immense foot traffic, stay within those hours when the area is busy in Newburgh. Another safe way to do it is to park your car in Beacon lot, free on weekends. Take the ferry to Newburgh and run from there (opposite to what I did). On Saturdays, Beacon train station has a Farmer's market. It's very small but worth checking with free bands playing.

Yes I'm a fan of the ferry, but really wish it ran on weekends. If you wish it did it too,…read morecall/write the MTA (they run it) and request it. If they get enough requests and realize there's a need for it, they might implement a weekend schedule.

There is something to be said about a family owned and operated business that you just cannot get…read morefrom a corporate run business: flexibility, polite manners and reliability. It's their business, their reputation on the line. I was looking for a car service last minute, the night before my flight yesterday, to take me from La Guardia to a friend's home 1 1/2 hrs away in Montgomery. I called CAR24. Mike was super prompt in returning my text at 11:00pm, assured me he had availability and we'd touch base in the morning. True to his word, we booked the car in the morning and he gave me a very competitive rate. Didn't tack on last minute fees. Done, texted confirmation number. Gave me name of my driver, Allison, who touched base 5 min later with her cell number. Super prompt, funny and friendly, riding with Allison was a pleasure. A key thing to note: take your cues from the client. She didn't start chatting until I did. I'm from New Orleans and work in the hospitality industry there, handling conventions with 10,000-30,000 in attendance. I book about 250 private car service for clients a year. There are a few key things that are expected from a private car service that are unbendable: reliability, communication, cleanliness and polite manners in drivers, who understand it's not about them it's about the client. Likewise from a client: tip the driver and tip in cash. If you get good service, show it by tipping more than 20% of the fare. In our industry, there is nothing worse than a rude passenger and a bad tipper. Home run for CAR24. Allison even stopped at CVS so I could run in and grab something. Thank you!!! MaryBeth

They are very reliable. It was great service with a smile. It was a smooth ride in both directions.read more

The station is organized well and there is decent signage for where to go to get from the platform to the parking areas. There is a connection to a ferry across the Hudson but it only runs to coincide with the morning and evening commutes. It does not run in the middle of the day, which is a bummer. There is parking here and a connection to the Beacon loop, a free local bus that drives around the town of Beacon. [Review 11485 overall, 1265 of 2019.]

I don't often get emotional at weddings (although my eyes did water for a split second... allergies I tell you... allergies!) but for some reason or another, found myself a bit in my feelings while "waiting" for train. I put that word in quotation marks because for the first time in a while, I wasn't quite counting down the minutes, as I was more-so enjoying the peace and quiet and simply being present in the moment. This train station is serene. It isn't surrounded by any stores or cafes but actually runs parallel to the hudson river, which is merely separated by a parking lot. After exploring down by the water (will write a separate review for the sloop club) and having a very pleasant conversation with a local, I purchased my ticket and made my way to the platform. I looked to the right and noticed that the platform extends to a cool little private section, where the elevator room and door is housed. I hung out there for about 30 minutes, only visible to the public eye from a certain angle in the parking lot, but I pretty much had my own little world. For 30 minutes, all of the stresses of life melted away and I felt like a kid again. I remembered the days when my dad would take my brother and I deep into Long Island (I have to ask where that was) and we'd walk on the train tracks together and watch as it flattened our pennies that we placed down. There's something about trains that are so fascinating as a kid. I even remember George Carlin on TV as Mr. Conductor, introducing me to Thomas and his friends. I could have spend the entire afternoon in that spot. For 30 minutes, I didn't check any email, look at any texts, broadcast myself on social medial. I simply shadow boxed, dangled my feet over the edge, examined rocks, stared into the distance, observed the construction workers about a half mile away and took a ton of pictures that I'll upload later today.
