I've had the same hair stylist for 30+ years and needed a cut and color while on the Cape. I tried another hair salon here and was very disappointed. I was later referred to Ina and she did an incredible job the first time around, comparable to my long time hairdresser. She listened, asked questions and was very patient. I've already made my follow up appointment. The price is a bit steep, but I'm willing to pay for the expertise and professionalism Ina provided. read more

This place is great. I had extended my stay on the Cape and really needed a haircut. You might laugh, I'm an older man, maybe set in my ways, and have had the same barber (woman) cutting my hair for at least 15 yrs. So it was with some trepidation that I made an appointment at NY Hair. Maybe I was lucky, the owner Ina was available. She couldn't have been nicer, a pleasant personality and the haircut was terrific. She did just enough to get rid of the shagginess, and give it a nice shape. The shop itself is well laid out, lots of space between stations. All in all a very professional operation. Given the standards the owner obviously sets I would imagine you couldn't go wrong with any of the stylists. Highly recommend it. read more

I just moved here, and the stylist did an excellent job with both my color and my cut. My only problem is the price. It was extremely expensive, and I am used to paying about $140 for color and cut. When I walked out, it was over $200. Because of this, I won't be going back. :( read more

I don't normally do much with my hair, but I decided to switch it up and made a last minute appointment with Lauren and she was great! I got balayage, curtain bangs, long layers, and cut off about four inches, and I love it. I was a little nervous but Lauren worked with me and we ended up with the exact color/ style I was going for! These ladies saved me from a lot of wedding week stress! I got a pretty crappy manicure elsewhere and called to see if they could fit me in for a day-of service for a gel manicure. Initially they did not have a time that worked but after pleading my case of a day before my wedding the lovely receptionist (sorry did not catch your name!) put me on hold to check with the nail tech on what they could do and they fit me in with just a few hours notice! Desi was attentive and understanding..and agreed the previous tech "maybe just needed some more practice" trying to be as kind as possible while marveling at how bad of a job they did. She let me sample basically every light pink they had until I found the perfect one. It was a great experience and I highly recommend to anyone in the cape in need of a quality manicure read more

DISCLAIMER: This review is just about pedicures. I never got a hair cut here. Also...I think Cape Cod is really cool and has a lot of stuff way better than NYC -- Whales and Lobster Rolls to name just two, so I'm not hating the Cape at all, I'm a really big fan. Please don't tell me to go back to Staten Island. I've recently relocated to the Cape after decades in NYC, and most of the very last decade was spent in the odd-but-actually-kind-of excellent-in-its-own-way Isle of Staten. Moving to the Cape, I was aware that I probably couldn't find the same affordability and level of nail-painting acumen and spa services that can be found on every corner of that hyper-nail focused borough (even Manhattan nail salons don't hold a candle to those on Staten Island). On SI, nail salons are centers of community and nails are considered a sacred form of high-art and self expression. Which is a bit nutty I agree... However, I didn't know that decent pedicures are as rare as hen's teeth and seem to be (especially in winter) an almost unknown art on the Cape. So, after much disappointing research on Yelp, I just picked a place that was convenient and fit into my errand schedule that day -- I really did need my feet done. Hit NY Hair Co & Spa in the mid-afternoon in the middle of the week. Wait was about twenty minutes since they have only two mani/pedi people. I could live with that. Cute place, nice people. I know the ropes, so I picked a color (not a great array of choices, but I lived), and followed my pedi-lady back to one of the two pedicure chair/tub combos in a little room. Okay, not a massage/heat seat, but I can deal...she filled up the tub, got it going. I took off my shoes and socks and put them on the side, got my feet in the water and we got to work. About two minutes later, a seeping stream of water started to come from under the tub. Pedi-lady was surprised, but got some towels to sop it up. Unfortunately not before the water had gotten to my socks and shoes. I had to ask her to move them so they wouldn't be sitting in a puddle the whole time. That wasn't really her fault I guess, so we continued. I asked her to do my calluses, and they are a nightmare because I have a condition that makes the skin on my heels grow very thick very fast. She did the callus solution pumice stone thing (extra charge) and it didn't really do all that much to help (maybe bad solution? Not on long enough?). She told me I should come in every two weeks at least to deal with the calluses, but at those prices, who can afford it? Other similar treatments in the past had kept me callus-free for a month at least...so... I also told her about an ingrown nail on one of my big toes, and she nodded, but didn't seem to really know what that was and didn't do anything to address it. Nail painting was fine. She could tell I wasn't all that thrilled with the flood and callus treatment, so she gave me an extra leg scrub for free, which was nice. So we finally get done. I guess it was okay.I pick up my wet socks n stuff and follow her out to what I assumed would be the pedi-fans to help my piggies dry...and they don't have any! Huh? Like...hmmm...okay...WHAT? I know that things are different here...but no way to dry the polish on my toes in the middle of the winter? I mean every nail salon I've ever been to has dozens of them. I mean, this was something I just didn't think to ask about before getting a pedicure. She said that I could walk out to my car in the pedi flip flops they give you. But in 19 degrees, in the dark, with ice and snow on the ground?? I asked her what other people who get pedicures do and she said they don't get pedicures in the winter....Okey Dokey. Thanks for the heads up. She could tell I was flabbergasted so after I paid the (at least for me) sticker-shock level bill (3x what I would have paid for a full spa mani/pedi in good ole SI, and 2x what I would have paid in Manhattan) she offered to do a manicure for free while my toes were drying. I appreciated it, but the wind was knocked out of my sails and I declined the kind offer. I don't blame her - if the salon maintained the equipment and ponied up for a nail dryer or two, this would have been a better review, even with higher prices than I'm used to. Sat in the sitting area and fanned my feet with a magazine for a half hour to get them dry enough to put on my still soggy socks. People starred at me with funny looks...I guess you really aren't supposed to get pedis in the winter... On a break from fanning, Asked the woman at the desk about the non-existent pedi-dryers. Surprised by my question, she said that no salons she knows of have them. Wow. * * * Morals of the story: if you are desperate for a pedicure here... * Don't put your shoes and socks on the floor in case of flooding. * Have a toe drying strategy ready. get a lighter color (lighter colors dry faster) and bring your own fast-drying stuff for a top coat (they don't have that either). read more

Love the facial services!!! That's a 4! A 1 for pedicure! I would not recommend a pedicure! Save your money. Had s crack in my toenail left it that way, never filed it to even it out, barely any Massage, heels look as dry and cracked as when I went! I chose NY Hair Co for my wedding hair updo since my regular salon couldn't fit me in. Had a hard time getting an appointment for my wedding hair trial since the owner (and in charge of all things wedding related) was on vacation. When I got to the appointment Laz was wonderful! I gave her an idea then she ran with it making it her own. It was a great experience. I called the salon 3 days before my wedding to cancel an updo for my maid of honor (8 months pregnant and couldn't travel). They were very understanding and canceled it no charge. My wedding day came and again Laz was great. Would definitely recommend! read more

I had a really fantastic experience at N.Y. Hair Co. & Spa. I am staying on Cape in my vacation house, away from Boston, and my roots were in serious need of a touch up so I thought I'd read some reviews and try to find one on the outer Cape. Thank goodness I found these guys. They were able to give me a same-day appointment. My hair was done by Erin and she did a fantastic job. Not only is my hair a beautiful, summery color, but the highlights look great. She also has curly hair, like mine, and treated it with special care. She was very personable and sweet and she did a great job! She even had time, after the blow dry, to wax my eyebrows for me without even scheduling an appointment. My brows and hair look great. Everyone was very kind, it was a quiet and serene space, and was reasonably priced. Anyone visiting the Cape in need of a solid hair-care experience should absolutely give them a call. They also have a full spa service- I didn't try anything but it looked very nice. ****************************************************************************** I am changing my review for NY Hair Co. & Spa based on another experience I had here this past summer. I booked a large number of mani-pedis several weeks in advance of my friend's wedding. The day before the event I called to confirm our appointments only to find out that the manicure technician quit and they could not accommodate our party. Yes, I understand that these things happen, but NO ONE CALLED US. That fact alone blew my mind! If I hadn't called to confirm, the whole bridal party would have been screwed. The salon offered to set us up with a neighboring salon who could accommodate us, but what we weren't told was that it was the dirtiest, poorest quality, most disorganized nail studio I have EVER been to. They gave horrible service and even double charged my friend- when she went back to argue the charge they were extremely rude and openly hostile. I could not believe how poorly we were treated. It was a horrible experience and I place that blame on NY Hair Co. & Spa. I just don't think I would ever go back there again or recommend this place to anyone after the experience we had there, which is too bad because my initial experience with them, as I wrote about before, was a good one. read more

I went to this salon for my wedding day, along w/ my bridal party. I was not a control freak bride, which is why I need to tell my experience. It was really awful for everyone who went there. My hair and make-up trial I really did not like, especially the make-up. I ended up having my hair done there "day of", which ended up being great, but I needed to be extremely specific for them. Since the make-up was so bad, I ended up doing my own. My mother went there for a few hair trials and including the day of - it went poorly. They really had a hard time understanding what people want and what actually looks good. My sister-in-laws' updo (she even had a picture) was from the 80's.... all in all, I would not recommend them. Not to harp, but even the mani/pedi package was crazy expensive and not high quality. In summary, I would source out another salon for brides. read more

I cannot say enough about the atmosphere they have created at NY Hair. It was welcoming, friendly, and calm. Our timing of our services and the reservation process preceding it was excellent. I started off with an eyebrow waxing which was lovely and painless. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the lip experience. It felt hot going on in two places and resulted in burns which scabbed over and finally healed 4 days later :( My pedicure experience was set up nicely; the cleaning and cut were nicely done. I was, however, most disappointed in the polish experience. It was sloppy and despite my repeated asks to clean up the excess and smooth the surface, I still ended up fixing the job at home. I will say that Sue at the front desk was very astute and inquired about my experience just because she observed me looking at my feet and showing them to my wife once I finished with the dryer. At this point, I only asked for something for the red spots on my face as I wasnt confident that my stylist could fix the job as I dont think she was seeing what I was seeing. read more

I have been visiting with Ina for almost a year now. I am extremely picky and was very nervous going to someone new as I had just moved here at the time and previously worked with a celebrity stylist. Seeing on the salon website that Ina was a color specialist gave me some confidence at the time. Since then, we've done many different shades and she has just done an immaculate job every single time! I love her cut as well. My hair is naturally pin straight and she knocks the cut & color out of the park. The salon is very clean and everyone is so nice. I always feel so pampered! read more

Wow, what an experience. I literally walked in at 6 o'clock and was told they closed at 5, however the woman said that she would take me and just to sit tight for a few as she was finishing up with a customer. The reason i barged into this place was because i went down the street to pro cuts to get a standard mens cut and they absolutely butchered me. Wasn't even funny how bad this hair cut was. I had to stop the guy half way through the cut. I looked like the SNL character Stefan, you know, the one from weekly updates with Seth Myers. He clearly knew i was pissed. However, just to get out of there i paid 13 dollars and left. I needed to find somewhere else to fix the massacre that just happened on my head. After calling about 5 different places, they were all closed. This is when i went back to pro cuts telling them i needed someone to fix it. Guess what there answer was..."well the guy who just cut your hair can try and fix it OR you can drive 40 miles to FALMOUTH to get it fixed, but getting your money back is not an option". This is when i nearly lost it. However, i got back in the car and started driving down 6A when i saw the sign for NY Hair Co. I walked in and Andrea was amazing. Very personable, knew what she was doing. I live outside Boston and will be coming back to this place whenever I need a cut because she made me feel that good about the experience. I made the mistake of not asking for the price of services prior to sitting in the chair. I was charged $72 plus tip for a simple haircut and blow dry. The technician happened to be the owner. She started my service 15 minutes after the scheduled time, interrupted my service twice to tend to another customer and discussed her political views. Every time I have had my hair color and cut, I notice that not only my stylist but the entire staff is striving to give you the best possible experience and look per your needs. This is the cutest salon! Apparently a go to for bridal parties in the area, this salon is great. The staff is friendly and accommodating and the homemade scones were a nice touch. After some prodding from my sister, I took a chance and booked a first time appointment at the NY Hair Co. The experience was pleasant and my stylist Peter gave me the confidence I needed to change it up a bit! Peter was amazing! I went here the week of my wedding for a manicure/pedicure and was really pleased with our services. They were very efficient and friendly and were able to do my nails and my mom and sister's nails in less than 2 hrs with only 2 staff members. I just got back from my first haircut here and I have to say, I couldn't be happier! I recently cut off all my long, very thick hair at a different salon. After 2 cuts there, I didn't feel like it looked the way I wanted and it was still far too thick for a pixie cut. I tried NY Hair Co. and specifically asked if my hairdresser was good at short cuts when I made the appointment because short hair can be harder to cut. My stylist was Irene (if I remember correctly) and she was great! She really listened to what I wanted, even though I wasn't completely sure what to tell her, and she made a lot of suggestions that I really liked. I had no idea how to describe what I was going for, or even what it was I wanted, and she managed to figure it out and give me an awesome cut. She took her time and asked how I liked it as she went so it wasn't too short, and she even used a razor instead of scissors (which I had never even heard of!) because she thought it would give me a better look. I'm also used to a normal haircut costing around $100, so the $42 I paid here was really affordable from my perspective. I'm super happy with my experience there and will definitely be back, especially because they gave me a $10 gift card with my haircut! I haven't tried any of their other services, but definitely give their hairdressers a try! read more
