Stopped in Saturday night for some live music. The place was busy but thankfully not chaotic busy. When I entered the host sign was turned to "Please Wait To Be Seated" but nobody was there so I started to mosey to see where I thought the musician would play? I entered the dining room off to the north and asked a staff where he would play? She pointed to the area by the host stand. As I began to make my way to the stand to wait to be seated I saw two women vacating a table so I asked them if they were leaving and if I could have their table? I was only there a short few minutes before the bartender came out to ask if I needed a drink or a menu? Also stated she would clean the table. I told her "I saw the wait to be seated sign but nobody was there". She said they do that so the servers don't get overwhelmed. There were a few cocktails that sounded absolutely delicious, but they'll have to wait for another day when I have room in my belly. I opted for the kids grilled chicken tenders, it was like a pounded out chicken breast cut in to strips, perfect enough for me. I like the decor...look up, some of the light fixtures are wagon wheels w lanterns hung from them. The area above the "gambling" corner has a car bumper and old Radio Flyer just below the ceiling, fun. There is a sign on the wall there that reads: Drinks 2-for-1 while gambling. If that's your jam! The acoustics were great for the musician! Parking Parking was easy w all four sides of Main Street offered free parking and the east/west running streets also offered free parking. Nutty Squirrel has a sign on the wall near the host stand that lists their daily Specials. My server was "sous-chef trying to earn some extra cash, Anthony". Let me tell you, as I asked a fellow who was bopping around all night "are you the manager? Sous-Chef Anthony wasn't good... he was freaking fabulous! I asked him for a sauce lid a bit ago and said don't you dare come back here in two minutes with a lid... I'm here all night!" Anthony replied "I'm not doing anything else at the moment." When he had brought out my food I asked "could you bring out silverware when you get a moment?" Anthony replied "I can do it now, I got you." He was so friendly and attentive, very much appreciated. Thanks Nutty Squirrel for a simply delightful evening! Delicious food ordered from and brought out by a friendly fellow in a comfortable and well lit environment for a reasonable price. Decided to come back as we had a great experience a few years back...boy, were we surprised at how much the food quality has declined! Pulled Pork Sandwich was inedible, mush with sour coleslaw on top. All of the food was barely warm- we did order a pizza, so they maybe waited for the pizza to be done and then brought all the food together(?)IDK. The wings we ordered were good, but not like they used to be. Nachos were sad, curds mediocre. The service was fine, but the food isn't worth the price. Horrible experience. The corn beef in the Rueben was so incredibly tough. My guest said the same thing. Server was MIA for most of the meal. Had to walk to kitchen to get a condiment. We were seated as soon as we walked in, at about 1530 hours on 11/22. Our waitress was there promptly as well and took our drink order and gave us a few minutes to look at the menu. The decor and buildout are nice. My wife was thrilled there was a Chicken pot pie on the menu, she asked for that. The waitress told her that they did not have pot pie and had not as long as she has been there. Take it off your menu then management. My wife asked for the fish sandwich, no lettuce and tomato and the menu indicated the tartar sauce came on the side, perfect. I requested a patty melt with fries. I love me a patty melt. The food came in a very reasonable amount of time. However the tartar sauce was slathered on the fish not on the side. The wife does not like tartar sauce. Our delightful yet timid and young waitress offered a redo. Thanks. I started to eat me patty melt which had a taste I could not place Second bite same as the first, time to look at the menu and see if I missed something. No typical patty melt. Bite number three... THATS IT!, no onions on here its sauerkraut. WTF. I could eat no more of it. How does that happen, I enjoy sauerkraut just not where it isn't supposed to be. As a local here in River Falls, I find myself visiting The Nutty Squirrel weekly if not more. The food is tasty and the atmosphere is great (especially for big games.). Two of the main bartenders Emily and Hannah do a great job keeping drinks full! Highly recommend a visit to The Nutty Squirrel. read more

sad to say but their food is too expensive for the quality, also service is not great, i got kicked out of this bar because the bartender at night doesn't like rap music and i paid for songs to play but they'd constantly be skipped so i'd have to go and get my money back every time. not only that but it was 46 degrees so i had a ski mask on full face exposed while i was out smoking a cigarette, the owner walks in and says thats not the look we want at this bar and made it so i cant go back. all that being said the GM also is very unprofessional if you dont have a personal friendship with her you'll not be able to stay employed or enjoy your time there. last but not least. another reason for me not being allowed there is because of charges i was facing that got dropped by the state. read more

Yet another invigorating experience at this disappointing establishment. After my previous review, we've been there two more times. The first was dining indoors, we had burgers off the "new" menu which were mediocre. This last experience was outdoors on the patio. Unfortunately, we were unable to eat as no one acknowledged us for 20 minutes, and then we left. A simple HELLO! It will be a couple minutes! Can make such a difference to customers. But not a word was spoken to us. When we arrived we went inside to be "seated" per the instructions at the patio entrance. That same hostess lady seated two more tables shortly after us. At most, there were five tables total on the patio, the inside was pretty dead. One of those tables was being served when we arrived, and after the other tables started getting antsy, one more waitress came out and acknowledged them only. We had a male server come out twice, for one of the two tables being served. The hostess was out there three times. The red haired waitress who only spoke to one of the 2-3 tables waiting never acknowledged anyone else on her one trip we saw her make outside. We were never asked for drink orders (for 20 minutes), we were never told, " it will be a minute". Just seemed so rude of not only the hostess who kept seating ppl, but the other two who blatantly ignored us. I understand COVID times, but the inside was pretty dead. And if you're that short staffed, the least the hostess could do is get drink orders to help out. We had our small infant along and time is strict for feeding her. Since it was 20 minutes without a drink, we couldn't risk having to wait any longer to get a food order in in fear of baby needing to eat if it was that slow for the entire visit. I think we've given this place a fair chance over the last year, but unfortunately we will not be back. The food used to be the issue. But now the service is the problem. I wish they could have gotten their s*** together, but I guess it wasn't going to happen. When your customers feel like an inconvenience you'll lose them forever. Good luck NS. read more

Since this place changed hands from Kris Grove, it has become garbage. Awhile back, I ordered their buffalo chicken wrap, and it was so dripping in sauce that I felt like I was drinking the wrap, not chewing it. I complained. They blamed it on new staff. Tried again a few times. Second time, I asked for sauce on the side, and it was better. I also request no bacon. They listened. But the last two times, they've screwed up again. They put bacon on it, even though I request them not to. But they fail to add tomatoes. I don't know if the staff needs to be retrained or if no one cares. But this restaurant is absolute garbage. I would never recommend it to anyone. Disgusting. Do not go here. read more

We stopped just for a drink and a snack. The server seemed to be training a couple other servers, and was very friendly. We ordered the spicy artichoke dip and french fries. The fries were AMAZING! Neither of us were impressed with the dip. It had a "fake" taste to it. We told the server when he asked how everything was and he told us it must be because the chef just changed the bacon topping to some really high quality local bacon. Ok. We didn't eat much but took the leftovers to our friends house. The bloody mary was decent. Here are the reasons for my lower rating. 1) we talked in length with the server about available tshirts for purchase. He never came back with any options/sizes or pricing. 2) when I ordered my bloody mary, he asked what kind of vodka. I asked for Tito's and he said they don't carry Tito's. WHAT? Who doesn't carry Tito's?? He recommended Depp Eddy and so I went with that. I asked about an IPA for a beer chaser, to which he said it was a $1 upcharge. I was fine with that. 3) When we got the bill, we were not only charged the $1 extra for the IPA (again, no surprise here) but also a $1 upcharge for the Deep Eddy vodka. If you told me about the upcharge for the IPA chaser, why wouldn't you mention that for a vodka YOU suggested??? Seemed a little sneaky. 4) I pulled my credit card out to pay, and when I received the bill back, there was an additional charge for using a credit card. I had cash. Again, why wouldn't you mentioned that to me when you see I have taken the card out to pay? It's a cool place, but I was super annoyed at how our visit was handled. And who doesn't carry Tito's?? We ordered the Nashville Crushers (spicy chicken sandwiches) and the chicken was tough, chewy and burnt looking. The sandwich was dripping oil and was just a complete mess and fell apart. The tater tots tasted like they microwaved them from frozen. We left our plates over half full of food and noticed that the table next to us did the same thing with their Nashville Crusher. We had a great afternoon on the refurbished patio. We brought our dog with also, definitely dog friendly. Staff was very helpful. We were not familiar with the local draft beers, chose the waitress recommendations and we were happy with our choices. Ordered the Carolina Reaper wings, the Chef visited the table to make sure I like heat and understood the ramification. Thought this was a nice gesture. We didn't get plates when it was served though. We ordered a chicken pita which was decent but unremarkable. Other order was chicken tenders, grilled...with onions and mushrooms on the side. The order came out deep fried, and they looked big and appetizing. But I sent them back as I ordered grilled, *which the printed menu offered*. Loved this place had date night with the hubby I got steak with green beans, mushrooms, and Mac n Cheese. The steak was perfectly cooked, green beans we firm and well seasoned and the Mac N Cheese was seriously addictive with really crispy pieces of bacon. The hubby got the black n blue juicy Lucy it was pink and cheesy and the waffle fries were huge and golden brown. The drinks were so good with an awesome selection of local beers. The best part was the staff, they were so friendly and fun, always checking in on us, chatting and sharing their beautiful smiles! I think I might have to become a regular! read more

About 12 of us women went to the Nutty Squirrel while having a family-get-together in River Falls a couple of week-ends ago. We had a great waiter, who tolerated our silliness, and got the orders right, considering the number of us ordering! Our favorite was the cheese curds with caramel dipping sauce, which was recommended by the waiter (we thought he was crazy, so we had to try it!) We all tried it and all agreed that it was delishious! The decor at the Nutty Squirrel was fun...buckets and pans for light fixtures and a ceiling fan made out of a farm windmill! 4 kids and 4 adults on Labor Day. Took over 1 hour and 45 min to get our food at 1:30 pm. Food was warm when it came out, but had definitely been done for a while. Had two drinks in that time. We came in with a group of about 10 at the height of the Packers-Vikings game and they were still able to accommodate us on the back porch. There was a big hassle because I wanted to pay cash and not share my credit card inforamtion, I had to give my order twice and what was brought me had little resemblance to what I did order. We have been here twice and the food and atmosphere are absolutely amazing! The food is inspired by nuts so some dishes and drinks contain peanut butter but not everything, a lot of the items are local midwestern classics like cheese curds and the juicy Lucy. We've tried this place three times now since the renovation. First couple of times were not good, but it has improved. The food and atmosphere is very good. This past visit we had great service. The first time I went I upgraded to tater tots and got about 10 tots, this last time it was a generous portion! I do wish they didn't charge 3% for using a credit card, it just lowers my tip. read more
