I was holding several items because I didn't have a basket and politely asked if she could move the basket on the counter so I could set my items down. She ignored me. I began stacking my items to the side until there was space, and she then grabbed the basket and threw it on the ground loudly, which drew attention from other customers. It was obviously an attitude towards me. To make matters worse, while I was entering my phone number, she packed my groceries without care- placing three big glass jars on top of my fresh sushi. By the time I got to my car, the sushi was completely smashed and splattered inside the bag. I understand everyone has bad days, but this interaction felt unnecessarily rude and careless. There are only 4-6 aisles in this store and each is packed with items to maximize space. There is a small produce area, deli and larger liquor area. Apparently Madisonville likes their booze. The produce was fresh and fairly priced, but don't expect the selection you'd find at a larger store. I bought bananas and pears, both of which were devoured by my children soon after bringing them home. I didn't buy any of their meat this trip, but they had a good variety of freshly packaged meat available. They even had frog legs and stuffed chickens available. Speaking of kids, if yours are the rambunctious type, they may bump into things as they twirl to the imaginary music in their heads. I lucked out that mine saved that behavior for the parking lot, but the aisles are somewhat narrow so use caution. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at this old style neighborhood grocery. I doubt it will become my regular store, but I will be sure to stop in whenever I'm passing through and need a few items.

do not buy fresh meat there. saw flies perched on top of frozen meals on display in open freezer…read morenear meat section. i have never seen that happen in other stores. i believe from my experience that management is trying to save money by not keeping the meat area coolers at an appropriate temperature. have seen discolored meat (gray/brown) leaking. have purchased bad meat there before and spoken to the employees stocking and have shown them past due date and discolored meat. they were not surprised. also have purchased other items in the deli section that were 5 months past their due dates. i believe this attempt at curbing expenses is due to shoddy management.
