This was my first time hiring a private chef, and I was a bit nervous since it was for an intimate dinner for two at an Airbnb on the coast celebrating my partner's birthday. I found Nutrigastro through Yelp, and from the moment I reached out, they exceeded every expectation! Their response time was immediate, and within minutes, I had a curated menu tailored perfectly to my requests. My contact person was initially Yeye who helped me curate the perfect menu on yelp and then Ericka directly to coordinate everything else including payment. The pricing I think is perfect for the experience. Chef Hakeem and Chef Leo were incredible. Their fluidity in the kitchen was unmatched, and they went above and beyond to deliver a menu that not only matched my vision but tasted even better than I could have dreamed. Every dish was absolute perfection: Homemade Caesar Salad: Crisp, fresh, and perfectly dressed. Lobster Bisque: Rich, creamy, and decadent. Surf & Turf: Lobster and ribeye steak cooked to perfection, paired with garlic mashed potatoes and tender broccolini. Dessert: A phenomenal homemade cheesecake topped with a strawberry rose and fruit compote. The dinner started exactly on time, and they handled everything with such professionalism, even cleaning up the kitchen so well it looked like no one had ever been there! They provided their own serving plates and utensils, while I added a few personal touches like a tablecloth, candles, and decorations. I cannot recommend Nutrigastro enough. This review is for any customer considering this business. Given the level of unprofessionalism demonstrated by this business I will be including screenshots of the issues because this company clearly lacks accountability and any sense of responsibility to their customers. I tried to post a longer review but Yelp doesn't seem to let me do it. In summary, if you have a special event coming up DO NOT consider this caterer for your event. They will show up over 2.5 hours late, with no explanation as to why they are late, be completely unprepared despite regular communication leading up to the event (missing utensils, an extra table they said they are bringing etc...) They will not apologize for nearly ruining your event (unless you ask them directly why did you not apologize?) and then expect that they should be paid in full. They will claim it's for the "ingredients" for their food and the "custom labeling" of food which is just a Sharpie marking on the tin covers (see photo).... Their food is nothing to write home about, their service atrocious and their professionalism is somehow even worse than atrocious. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me and I will be more than happy to give you the details of their behavior at my event, which was a brunch for my baby shower and birthday celebration. I initially DM'd the business as I didn't want to have to leave a 1 star review but given their response to their issues I do think it's necessary for customers to know what they are getting with this business; they gave a paltry amount 10% refund of the total we paid for what they did (or rather didn't do) and still didn't explain why they were so late! When I complained they said "oh we'll be happy to give you 20% off for your next event!" Pretty audacious to assume that I would ever hire them again! Maybe this is a radical thought but I do think that caterers should actually show up to events so guests can actually eat the food. That is a significant part of what you are paying for as a customer, a service. Clearly they do not consider this to be the case at all! So why exactly would I hire them again? Overall do yourself a favor and look for another caterer. I hate to put out such bad vibes so I will end by saying that my event was salvaged by my wonderful friends and family who worried about my stress over this caterer, still claimed they had a lot of fun and it was also saved by vendors who did show up on time and provided lovely entertainment for our guests who had to go hungry for almost 3 hours. Hakeem reached out to my wife as we were looking for a caterer on yelp. We then proceeded with the whole process and all and about 3 months ago my father passed away so we decided to call off the wedding. Ive been trying to contact hakeem for a total of 4 months now for a refund when the wedding was 9 months away. Everytime I call he shrugs me off saying " were closed". Theres one time I called the same exact number and it was his voice stating that he was "William". Im not sure what he's trying to do but it seems like a scam to me. Erika, Chefs Hakeem and Lei, and Kristell delivered outstanding service for our company's special celebration. They went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. They put great effort into making the presentation beautiful and satisfying even to the most discerning palates. We chose mostly the Asian menu, and everything was spot on, including the desserts (we had a lot of lovely comments from the attendants) They were punctual, incredibly kind, and paid attention to every detail. In a panic after finding out that our go-to restaurant was closed for Thanksgiving (and having to cater food for our family who were coming over), I searched Yelp for catering companies. Although I didn't go with Nutrigastro's services, coordinating an order was such a pleasant and straightforward experience, I am considering Nutrigastro for future gatherings necessitating food for a large group. [UPDATE]: Chef Hakeem reached out and was extremely apologetic. He issued a full refund as soon as we got off the phone. I appreciate his efforts in reaching out to resolve. Would I have preferred that someone tried to rectify the situation prior to me leaving a bad Yelp review? Yes, absolutely. However, I felt that Hakeem was genuinely apologetic and remorseful. He took full responsibility for what happened and still delivered the weekly meals in addition to the full refund. Will be willing to try them again for private chef/catering services, as that is the core of their business and everyone else seems beyond satisfied on that front. Will likely not attempt their meal prep service again. ---------- Shocked by my terrible experience as it seems they have a lot of amazing 5 star reviews, to which most appear to be related to their private chef and catering services. I used their meal plan service and it was abysmal. My spouse and I work grueling hours M-F and wanted to outsource our meal prep to avoid the hassle/time of meal planning, grocery shopping, and cooking during the work week. Contacted NutriGastro and they were happy to provide this service. Red flags throughout this entire process. Had an initial phone call to which $139 was quoted for 10 meals/week. Was told they only delivered on Tues and Thurs so I picked Tues and also told them my residence was in Concord. When they sent the invoice, they charged for a month's worth of services, as well as an extra delivery fee of $40 per week. At no point in the initial call did they mention a delivery fee. I knew they were located in SF and asked if it's okay to deliver to Concord and they happily said no problem. They never mentioned it would cost an additional $40, even when we discussed pricing. FYI, that's almost a third of the price. Also, paying a month upfront was a lot as I wanted to try them out for one week at least before committing to a more permanent service. Good thing I did because they failed to deliver on the initial service. Told them the delivery fee threw me off guard and they were no longer in my budget so I will be looking at other options. They then revised the invoice to include one week's of service and removed the delivery fee. I paid asap and confirmed I was on the calendar for Jul 8th delivery. Come Jul 8th, the whole day goes by and no delivery was made. I contacted them around 5PM and was told there was a kitchen emergency and all Tues deliveries are now going out on Wed. Would have preferred to have been notified once they knew no deliveries were going out as opposed to finding out when I inquired myself (at 5PM no less). Wed comes and goes and again nothing was delivered. At this point, meals were no longer needed. Original intent was to have the meals during the work week. Delivery was now 2 days late and no ETA was provided when I would received them. Purposefully did not grocery shop as I was relying on NutriGastro fulfilling their service. Now had to order food delivery for the 2 days they were late as well as the rest of the week. Emailed them and asked to be removed from the delivery calendar (as meals are no longer needed) and also asked for a full refund as nothing was delivered. Followed up and gave them over 24 hrs to refund. They completely ghosted me - have not heard a word and they have yet to return my $. I mean, even some response/acknowledgement as to what happened should be warranted. Happy to take your money but not willing to take responsibility when they fail. read more

Ericka Lopez was an absolute pleasure to work with from the beginning to the end with a great communication and professionalism and went beyond to meet our budget and needs. She even created a beautiful menu to go with our theme and colors, which was way more than what I had expected! They came on time and set up the buffet tables beautifully. Let me start with a little background. I used their catering service for the company xmas party of around 40 ppl. I opted for a full service with choice of entrée and a taco bar. The communication was good up until the day of the event. The event was scheduled to start at 6 but the caterers didn't arrive until 6:30. They said they were going to arrive 3 hours early to set up, which put me at east. When they didn't arrive even at 6pm was really worried. They assured me they would have enough time but turns out our guest arrive and they're still setting up. The party looked very unprofessional and I had to worry when the food would be ready to be served. Upon starting the service, I was told their "full service" did not include taking orders. It was fully a buffet style and everyone would have to line up get the food. They didn't communicate to the guest any special request and quests had to fumble around to get their food. I also ordered a taco bar and they did not inform our guest and so it was left there and no one ate it. I also had horchata that no one touched as they didn't tell the guest of anything. The staff basically just stood by the buffet table and did not inform guests of any info. All in all, I spent way too much time coordinating with the staff to be able to enjoy the event. It almost felt like I was the groom at a wedding event. If the staff was more punctual and communicated what their "full service" was, I might have gone in with better expectations. In light of this, the guest did say the steak was pretty yummy. The cost was pretty reasonable, which was why I picked them in the first place. But for the quality of service I got, I would have opted for a more professional service. For a small gathering they may be a better fit. For a professional event, they really made the event very stressful for me. read more

Chef Hak and team exceeded my expectations and made my birthday very special. First off, Chef responded to my Yelp inquiry within minutes and helped me put together a perfect 3 course menu for 20 with such ease. I selected items that were on his sample menus. Chef made it seamless and low stress the day of the event by keeping in touch and taking care of bringing all groceries up to Napa, cooking items and also doing an impeccable job of cleaning the kitchen afterward. The beef dish was very tender and perfectly medium rare, the chicken was so wonderful -- browned on the outside and very moist and flavorful inside, the vegetables and truffled rice were beautifully prepared. Nutrigastro catered our Grand Opening in Capitola, CA this past December 17th. It took me a bit to post this review as I was gathering feedback from over 50 guests as well as our associates and their families regarding their experience with the service and the food. What you should know is that our original caterer cancelled just 5 days before our event. I looked for local caterers and the ones who responded to my request for help, while really nice, were charging quite a bit more than what our budget allowed. Then I got a message from Raven from Nutrigastro. She was not just fast in responding but we had a conversation not long after we connected via Yelp. I expressed my concern over the situation we were in, and also shared our limited budget concern. What happened afterwards was not just shocking, but so moving I cried. Raven shared her family's story, their beginnings, and how it was a family business just like mine. She empathized, was kind, and reassured me they would take care of us and our event to the best of their abilities and capacity. She/they went above and beyond my expectations and our team's expectations. When I got the quote with the food that was going to be provided, that is when I truy saw what she meant when she said she would take care of us. The cost for the food was a fraction of what they usually charge, and they made the arrangements to drive from San Francisco to Santa Cruz right away. She kept in touch as well as her wife, Simphany, about the details and even added a few extra things to help us with saving on cost. They took the tremendous stress I was feeling and turned it into me having peace over the catering so I could focus on other equally important things. That was priceless. As I write this review I am getting teary-eyed. Raven, Simphay, and Nutrigastro saved the day! At our Grand Opening I got to meet one of their chefs, Hakeem, and it was the same world-class experience I had had with Raven and Simphany. Hakeem was kind, helpful, friendly to our guests, and went above and beyond to make sure everyone had something to eat. At the end of our event, he even gifted me a box with very beautifully packaged baked goods from one his friend's businesses. He wrote a personal note to me and that was just so special. I could not be more grateful and overwhelmed with the way Nutrigastro, Raven, Simphany, and Hakeem took care of me, my family, my business needs, and our guests. They are simply fabulous and just really good people! I would give them 100 stars if that was an option. I pray that God continues to use them and their catering company to serve people like me, and that whoever is reading this will them a chance to cater their event and see what I saw and experienced - nothing but people representing a family-owned company dedicated to making their clients happy! I recently had a private dinner catered by Chef Hakeem and Chef Marcos for a bachelorette party in Sonoma County. I absolutely loved the experience and would hire them for another private event. They were personable, fun to be around and attention to detail was top notch. We opted to have a more asian inspired meal (see menu in photo). My favorite appetizer was the miso crusted shrimp and sesame crusted ahi tuna. For the main course the sesame crusted salmon was the crowd favorite all around. I thought the gochuangang would have made it spicy, but it wasn't at all and just elevated the salmon. The one dish that lacked for me was the teriyaki chicken. The sauce was good, but the chicken texture was off. The sides were simple, but enough to make it a cohesive meal. I was skeptical about the ginger creme brulee up until the moment of trying it. It wasn't over powering and was quite unique to taste. We didn't have many serving dishes and utensils at the air bnb so we had to work with what we got. They were understanding and had to wash in between courses. Speaking of washing...the clean up after was also just as impressive as the meal itself. It looked like they were never there! One thing that was above and beyond was the appreciation card they gave to the person who booked the dinner. It's the little things like that made the night an overall well put together dinner. From the scheduling and super professional meal planning with chef Hakeem who was so accommodating in making a special 4 course birthday dinner even my last minute cheese board request was just exceptional. Each course(crab cakes, salad, entree, that cheesy potatoes and the creme brûlée) was on point and seasoned just right to our liking!
