Nurturing Expressions is a great resource for new mamas! They bill insurance companies for breast pumps, the boutique has all the essentials a new mommy will need, and the staff is informative. There is a nursing room designed to be a comfortable space for mamas to feed their baby and to pump. There's a changing station and infant scale that you can use at anytime! The staff is trained to assist you with weighted feeds so you can see how much your baby is transferring while breastfeeding. They have a breastfeeding support group every Wednesday hosted by Tracy Corey who is an AMAZING lactation consultant. I couldn't say enough good things about Tracy. She helped my son and I perfect his latch and become more confident in breastfeeding. I highly recommend Nurturing Expressions to all mamas! read more

After my son was born , I had a terrible time breastfeeding . After taking every herbal preparation under the sun and seeing 2 different lactation consultants , I finally found Tracy. She was so knowledgable and had a great energy about her- I felt hopeful about breastfeeding after our meeting for the first time ( like I said, nursing got off to a very bad start) I recommend Tracy to any girlfriend who is pregnant as I wish I had found her sooner ! We will be having a baby girl in March and plan on calling her ahead of time this go around so things can get off to a good start. These folks are wonderful! My wife was having some frustration with breast-feeding and we called at about 3:30pm. By 5pm, Tracey was at our house and spent two hours consulting and teaching, weighing the baby before and after feeding and showing us how to use our pump to encourage milk production. Four days later our baby boy is gaining weight and my wife is having a much better experience feeding. Tracey has followed up over the phone twice and has been a huge asset. They were upfront over the phone that we pay for service, but then they submit the claim for reimbursement. By noon the next day, our doctor had notes in his computer from them and the paperwork was submitted. Also, our doctor had such confidence in them that he referred to Tracey's notes multiple times for cues on feeding related concerns. I highly recommend this place! read more

Nurturing Expressions is an invaluable resource to expecting families. What's important to know about Nurturing Expressions is what sets them apart from other companies like Yummy Mummy and Aeroflow is they are a BRICK & MORTAR shop owned by a highly recommended IBCLC / RN. It's not just a website only based business with employees who know little to nothing about lactation. Many of the employees have backgrounds as doulas, childbirth educators, baby wearing consultants, and as moms! The people who work there actually know a ton about lactation, all the different pumps, how each works, pros/cons of each, and about pregnancy/postpartum life. You can go there at any time and have a one on one demonstration pumping session / breast shield fitting... you can't do that with a website. Support local business and get actual, informed assistance!! Many of these less than favorable reviews seem to be left by people who don't fully understand how insurance coverage and contracting works, unfortunately. I'm saying this as both someone who worked in insurance, in lactation, and as a mom!! Often times insurance companies will just say "oh yes, it's covered 100%." But what they neglect to mention is that an item may be covered at 100% of the ALLOWED AMOUNT on your plan for that given item or in the contract they have with any given provider. So if the item you choose surpasses the allowed amount of coverage, you may have an out of pocket expense which of course is billed to you when your insurance does not pay NE the full bill!!! Say a pump is $200 but your insurance covers 100% of the allowed amount of $100 for a breast pump, you'd be responsible for $100 and therefor billed for that portion. This includes rentals and purchase pumps. The people at Nurturing Expressions go above and beyond to explain this as clearly as possible because navigating insurance jargon is no fun for anyone, especially expecting mommas. I can't say enough about how much the people who work here truly care about families. Tracy, the owner, answered any and all questions I had during my pregnancy and when my son was born, we had a rocky start to breastfeeding and Tracy was there to help me through... even over the phone and via text message when I moved out of Seattle. I only went to nurturing expressions because they are within network with my insurance company. I got an electric breast pump on my insurance thanks for Obama care. I shall return next year for a manual pump which is also covered by my insurance. As others have written, they can improve on customer service. A woman who worked at the store on the day I went in was too busy getting me to fill out paperwork. What I really wanted was a run down of how different non-hospital grade pumps work, and various options first; then the paperwork. Anyhow, I got what I went in there for! read more

Excellent local business owned by Tracy, a certified ICBLC. Very cute shop with welcoming staff. They sell all sorts of useful breastfeeding accessories including different size flanges for pumps. I went to one of her Wednesday support groups ($20/session) which was very helpful. She showed me how to get a better latch and made sure I could do it myself before I left. Later, when I developed a clogged duct, she offered her services same day free of charge as she was in the midst of practicing a new technique she had learned at a recent conference. I've been meaning to write a review awhile ago, and finally got a chance to do so today. I heard about this place from a coworker, and couldn't be more please with the recommendation. I printed the necessary papers from online and email them to inquire about getting a breast pump billed through my insurance. Someone emailed me the next day, and had a beast pump shipped out to my house for only $10. It saved me a trip from going up there. I live in Shoreline and am so glad I made the trip to Nurturing Expressions to buy my pump! Well worth it. My initial visit was at the end of my pregnancy and was pretty straightforward, I purchased a pump and left. They billed it all to my insurance (Regence) and I didn't have to do anything which was nice! My 5 star review is for my second visit which was a month after returning to work. I went in with my pump and one of the gals sat with me while I used it. She ensured everything was fitting properly and gave me great advice on using my pump more effectively and maintaining my pump with daily use. I also brought my baby with me and was able to do a pre/post feed weigh. They have a lovely private room for all of this so you really feel comfortable. Tracy (the owner) also spent about 15 minutes on the phone with me after I asked to come in and have an appointment with her for lactation consulting. All I needed was some input on milk supply and she was happy to provide the information I needed. She really cares about her work and it shows! Highly recommend coming here for all of your pumping/ breastfeeding needs! read more

DO NOT rent from these people - or buy from them or have anything to do with them at all. They do not deal well with insurance(washington apple) or believe in billing or providing any information. They will be more than happy to find a way to charge you a large bill. Their 'service' is horrible. They make tons of money from govt subsidies and insurance so they needn't give a crap about anyone and they show it. It's an absolute shame the way they exploit new moms and talk down to them. If you'd rather not add to stress and grief as a new mom go to Target and buy a pump! It's vastly easier, much cheaper and you don't have to deal with the attitude of women who are superior and down right nasty. The most important part is contacting your insurance and making sure you have coverage. Nurturing Expressions will have you fill out some paperwork but it's all pretty straight forward and since they work with insurances they can give you a good idea of what your insurance may cover. They are great at responding via e-mail and you can choose to have your pump delivered to you. I chose to pick it up and when I arrived at West Seattle - Nurturing Expressions location the lady that helped me was awesome! She described the functions of all of the pumps available and I was able to walk out of there in less than 10-minutes with a pump that best suited my needs. They also have a lot of cute baby stuff and nursing bras. It's a great one-stop shop! read more

Avoid this place. My wife had to call several times leaving detailed messages before waiting weeks for call back. When you do get a hold of them they offer very little advice and or days to schedule and instead just refer outside lactation consultants. We really could have used help the first few weeks with our newborn and we didn't get it here. You are much better off just working with a lactation consultant. This place has been a life saver for me. I originally went here to purchase the legendairy milk supplements and the staff was so knowledgeable about which might best support my breast feeding journey, asking me questions on how a typical breast feeding session goes etc. I then asked to buy bigger flanges for my pump and instead of just selling me what I asked for, someone from the staff asked if I had my pump and minded if we walked through how I used it.. took the time out of their day to sit down with me and help a first time mom navigate muddy waters. Come to find out I already had the size I needed! Never have I walked in somewhere and been so impressed with the staff, their kindness and compassion goes above and beyind. So I decided to try a breast feeding class because all I heard were rave reviews of Tracy the lactation consultant. This was nothing like I expected. She took the time with each mom individually, listened to their story and help each person on their breast feeding journey. Never did you feel unimportant. In the mean time the staff helped each mom get in get comfortable made sure they had all they needed to be successful.... the only thing I'm sad about was it took me 4-6 weeks to find this place .. I wish I had gone sooner! If I could give moms one weapon in their back pocket it would be this place!!! Thank you!! read more

So thankful they were available for our family! When our baby boy had his cleft surgery and wasn't able to nurse we were able to rent a hospital grade to get us through. What a relief for baby and mama both! I was so impressed that not only did they offer to meet me to help me get the pump, but they also offered to let me leave the pump at the hospital when I was done so I wouldn't have to worry about taking it back. After my son was born in October last year, I needed a double electric pump to return to work. I called my insurance (Regence) to see if the breastfeeding benefit under Health Care Reform was actually happening as I had heard, and they said my pump would be 100% covered. I called Nurturing Expressions and they had the pump I wanted in stock. I went to their store in W. Seattle, showed my insurance card and took my pump home then and there. These guys are the BEST!. This was the 2nd time we've used them and both experiences were great. They took a lot of time showing us all of the options for breast pumps and thoroughly explained what our insurance would cover. They even called my insurance company while we were there to verify coverage. We got a really fancy pump and only had to pay a small upgrade fee. I am eternally grateful to Tracy Corey at Nurturing Expressions for her wonderful insight, support, and guidance when I came to her, desperate for help with painful breastfeeding. Tracy spent time patiently troubleshooting issues that could be contributing to the painful nursing, and had the insight to notice that not only did my 5 week old daughter have a posterior tongue tie but also a lot of neck stiffness (from being in the breech position with her neck extended for the last weeks of my pregnancy), and that before we moved forward with clipping her frenulum, that we should consider having some body work (myofascial release and craniosacral therapy) to help. She explained everything so thoroughly, then Tracy referred me to a physical therapist as well as took the time to personally contact one of only 2 physicians in the Seattle area who clip tongue ties. Tracy was so attentive and made us feel like her #1 priority. We were able to see the physical therapist, who worked on my baby for 1 hour, after which the nursing was markedly improved, and has continued to get better and better since. During the days after our lactation consult, Tracy called me to check in and ensure that I was hooked up with all of the resources and follow-up that I needed to continue to have a successful breastfeeding experience with my baby girl. She made herself readily available and made time to see us in a rapid fashion when she heard we needed help. Tracy's calm, knowledgeable demeanor made all the difference to me as a new, sleep deprived and discouraged mom. I would recommend Tracy to anyone with a new baby who is breastfeeding, as she is a wonderful resource, but especially for those more difficult to pinpoint issues when things just don't seem to be progressing like they should, she is the best!!! Called them when I was on bed-rest before delivering my son prematurely. They sent someone out with a hospital grade pump and taught me how to use it the day I was discharged after delivery. When my son was getting discharged from the NICU I called and asked how to return the hospital pump and get the "daily" pump my insurance authorized and they said not to worry they would send someone out to the hospital again!!!!! They came, collected the rental and showed me all of the new parts to my new pump and congratulated us! I could not believe how amazing their customer service is!!! read more

getting a pump here was a nightmare in terms of customer service. maybe they are understaffed. i'd like to support a business like this for women, but they need to get it together as many other reviewers have noted. they seemed very scattered on the phone, and then when i went in they also seemed overwhelmed and not very customer oriented, kind of rude, and like they didn't have their ducks in a row in terms of how to run a business. i would take your business elsewhere until they get it together better. read more

I first went to Nurturing Expressions at the end of December, 2012 when I had my first baby. The birth of my first son resulted in an an emergency C-section and huge nursing issues. Like most moms, nursing did not come natural to me. I was referred to Nurturing Expressions by a coworker of my husband and from the moment I met Tracy, she supported me all through my breastfeeding journey. Tracy quickly diagnosed my sweet little baby who had lost over a pound after birth and had to be supplemented with formula with a tongue-tie and helped get us into the specialist to get it fixed. She then taught me how to properly latch, nurse and even burp and soothe my little person who had horrible reflux. I went to her weekly support group meeting for months and actually meet three of my current friends there. Later when I as having more nursing issues, she was right there to help diagnose a further tongue tie and got me into the specialist again without any significant delay. I now have a very healthy and happy almost three year old. When my second baby came along, she helped with latch issues and was always available via cell phone to answer any questions I had or just provide me support. I consider Tracy family and recommend her currently to my own Stroller Strides clients as a safe person to talk to, I have also purchased a pump from the store and found the process extremely easy after my first pump gave out on me. I have read the other Yelp reviews and have never once had any negative experience with Nurturing Expressions or any of their staff. This is a local business who fully supports new moms during a very difficult transition in their lives. I can't recommend them enough. read more
